To me, oasis finished in ‘97. Never paid much attention to the later albums, however listening to this now in 2018, it’s so much better than anything manufactured by songwriting teams on the money train. Pick any artist today that is shoved down the publics throat, and they couldn’t play in the toilets of an oasis gig.
Yeah, after Be Here Now, which is still madly underrated. It was the music industry takeover. Huge behind the scenes takeover 1997. It went from us lot to the Spice Girls and solo bitches whining about blokes. Not an accident. And that's why they slated BHN. They had to get rid of Oasis cos they represent proper music and culture.
They're not Bowie- there's no "journey" to understand. People went off them cause the other member's couldn't write as well as Noel and the whole Britpop scene had died- but Oasis were still here. They pissed people off. :)

This is seen as their "return to form" of sorts after their slight slump of SOTSOG and HC (although neither album is bad in any sense). I gotta say I agree. This and Dig Out Your Soul really shows a reinvigorated band. It's sad to think of the great work they could have, probably would have made into the 2010s, but we gotta be grateful for what we got. Seven albums (eight if you count The Masterplan, which is probably their 3rd best if you do count it) of pure genius and British badassery.

@@paulanthony5274I agree. I've gone back and reassessed, and I've actually developed an appreciation for SOTSOG and Heathen Chemistry. The early 2000s was a very bizarre time.

About the song "Guess God Thinks I'm Abel", I saw someone talking about "Noel treating his brother much better in public than Liam does", so I felt compelled to write this response. That's a key detail there: "in public". Noel treats his brother well "in public" exactly to persuade us into believing in him, it's quite an old psychology trick, you see it a lot in abusive parents, they love to "rewrite history". The internet and all the old videos popping up on RUclips shows us another version of the story, you can see that Liam tries so much to interact with Noel but Noel reppels, ignore or make jokes about it. Liam is "enabling" the abuse because he is giving that power to Noel, the power to shutdown his brother. Also, another argument that I make is the fact that Noel is the one out there giving interviews every other week trying so desperately to "rewrite history according to his own". Unfortunately, the majority of people never went through such bullshit in their personal lives, therefore they can't recognize when such tactics are being put to use, it's a "predator vs prey" situation. The only solution is Liam living his own life and isolate from the source of the problem (Noel). Also Noel feels much envy of Liam because everywhere Liam goes he starts to talk with his massive witt and makes everyone laugh and adore him, Noel feel stressed that he is the main songwriter of the band but never receive such adoration from the audience, therefore when power is in his hands he use it to attack Liam, and the fact Liam reacts to him keeps this cycle happening, if Liam ignored him Noel would be even more pissed and would exhibit public breakdown, so people would ultimately see how evil he is. I'm not saying Liam is a saint, but out of the two Noel is the one initiating psychological warfare.
You nailed it. Would you say it's just a repeat of the cycle of abuse and subsequently, developed DID personality on Noels part of just learned and repeated abuse? Also Noel admits as much in the 'Supersonic' Documentary... When he talks about him having a "cat like" personality and that he's a "Right Bastard". His words. He compared Liam to a Dog.
You cannot quantify what Liam’s attitude brought to the band, which is why I think Noel always mentions he wrote their biggest hits and he did most of the work. Liam from day one was ultra confident and there is no one like him, he brought intangibles that were vital for a band coming up. I also do not believe in taking sides in personality conflicts with people I have never met, so I am happy we have these great albums to listen to, I would love if they reunited I would fly over from the US to see them but if they don’t I understand too.
Thing I always liked about this record was it is the sound of OASIAS’s Oasis. It’s not Noel’s really after SOTSOG? He was like, “you go.” And Noel’s songs get far more complex and compellingly and lyrically interesting. Still the sound of this band in this studio is ridiculously good. I don't think Oasis's last three albums are nearly as good as the first three. It happens all the time with many bands. It's just so obvious. They lose something along the way.
