this camera supports live USB charging - to power the camera while on, or to charge a battery while off. Live charging really helps solve the battery life issue. I can shoot all day with a standard portable Anker USB charger attached.
I think the low-light issue is an interesting one. The burning question for me, with an interest in video of barn owls at dusk, is what could you possibly buy at this price point that would give you anything close to 600mm "reach" and work significantly better in low light than the RX10 iv even if you were prepared to go to used equipment?
Just received this camera for my birthday (yeah blew me away) so the infor I can get on this camera the better as it is replacing my old Canon EOS 1000D :) I’m a hobbyist taking photos of family, model aeroplanes & jets & motorbikes - so a lot of fast moving objects :)
I absolutely love my RX10 IV. I sold my a77 II and use it only now. When asked to shoot a wedding I was nervous but I put a Sony speed light on it and the pictures are perfect!!
Interesting, I currently use the a7iii for weddings but I'm debating getting this camera for birding and as a back-up wedding camera, any difficulties or drawbacks you encontered? Thanks
@@hablemosde1950 I have this camera and would feel confident using it for wedding gigs. However, the lack of a second card slot creates a calculated risk scenario versus a higher-end DSLR.
Do you still feel the same about this camera 3 years later? I need a camera with at least 600mm reach for an expedition cruise to the Arctic next July... plus like 24-80mm for landscape/normal shots. Any other combo (body + lenses) around that can deliver those "needs" along with great auto focus (for capturing Arctic wildlife) for under $4000. I'm looking at Olympus OM-1 too and would need at least 2 lenses with the OM-1 to fulfill my requirements. TY.
The low light performance is okay. If you want to shoot video in low light, you have to ask yourself the question why. For stills, it's acceptable at 1600 and any higher and you'll have plenty of noise. But my DSLR has the same problem and there are many programs out there that can successfully clean up images if you really have to.
Is this camera ok for night sky photography? I am a total novice but looking for a bridge camera with a decent zoom and good auto focus and low light capability.
This camera is - as you mentioned - fantastic during daylight but kind of useless in lowlight! But for my main field of photography - plane spotting - I found one major disadvantage for me (and the reason to switch back to a regular DSLR): The lag of the electronic zoom! It is nearly impossible to "fine tune" the zoom while following a fast moving subject because the electronic zoom always lags behind!
I've been using a Nikon P950 for a year and a half for plane spotting, and I've had the same issue with that one. I eventually taught myself to just shoot a single burst of photos of the plane at one particular angle.
For batteries, buy Small Rig batteries that have a USB-C port for recharging using a power bank. And the power output is almost the same as the original Sony ones and also display the battery percentage like the InfoLithium ones.
I have had this camera for a year and a half, it replace a Canon entry level DSLR with four lenses. I mainly use it for sports photography and have really enjoyed it. There is a lot to learn on this camera. The low light issue is my main pet peave but you just have to accept it and know its limits. If they put out a mark V with a bigger sensor, built in aND filters and a flip out screen it would be sensational!
Hi, i got a mavic air 2 drone and I'm looking for a camera to pair my drone video shots with the camera ground shots, can you please recommend me cameras for this purpose that goes with this drone specs? Thanks in advance!
As someone who only shoots with compact cameras (Sony), I really want this camera. While it's obviously not as small as the compact cameras that I use, and I won't be able to slip it into a coat pocket before heading out, the picture quality and zoom range would come in so handy. I'll just have to find a spare £1,500 lying around. 😀
Some would say that it's a step backwards for me as I shoot a Sony A7rIV...but I'm over 75 and it's a heavy camera...I really like the idea of having a camera that goes from wide-angle to telephoto...tough to go from 61 mp to 20...still up in the air about it but this was an awesome video!

How long does that battery last while recording a video? I am looking for a camera with super zoom to use while recording video of my kiddos marching band performances. And of course get some good pictures while being so far away.
1 inch sensor is huge! Im using 6mm sensor Nikon P1000 in low light at 3000mm zoom with great results, just lower shutter speed and use a monopod, pictures are hardly noisy and topaz deniose set at 9 out of 100 clears all noise, simple. I can't see any reason to go a larger sensor, same quality but you need much bigger lenses. Maybe im missing something, but I don't see much of a quality difference from a 20MP 35mm sensor compared to a 16MP 6mm sensor.
I do like to crop my photos when i edit them. i read somewhere that it is not easy to do?? it that true? Love the way you reviewed this. I am going to buy it this week!
In a similar situation!! Had an excellent price on my Canon L series lenses and want to buy the RX10 but a bit uneasy that the Mk5 could be around the corner! Stocks of the Mk4 are low and the price has dropped - often a sign of a new camera on its way, but not always!

The camera does up to 4x digital zoom, so it can do 2400mm but with rather poor quality. Having said that, any image at 2400mm distance is amazing. It does have a clear image setting that Sony claims is supposed to provide 2x digital zoom (to 1200mm) without image degradation. I would however try to stay at or near regular optical zoom limits to insure best image quality. Phenomenal camera by the way.

Sorry to say this but you are a that pushing to hard. It's tech (slowmo) was already available in the Sony rx100 iv(2015). For audio there is something really useful ( mi shoe) that means you don't have any lose cables for audio in.

Hello, I am very new in this domain but I would like to buy a camera perfect for recording a video for music production. What camera between 400-700 dollars would you recommend me?
Shame you didn't mention the stabilisation which btw is very important on a camera with such big lense. Also I was a bit disappointed that you talk about amazing video shot by the camera but we can't appreciate it becaus you shot it in higher FPS then the review portion and it all stutters like hell.
Great point! I did not even know it could do that! I appericiate the tip! although, I cannot imagine myself lugging around a power park. But i really appreciate the info!
Am watching this and wondering why I paid insane money for a A7Riii, when this has a 600mm and 24fps, I would be paying a good 2 grand for a great 600mm lens.
You paid those money for a significant better camera, don’t worry. The sensor you ve got is much better and have the possibility of attaching a very wide variety of lenses. A7 iii is a great choice. It definitely offers much better performance than this sony camera in this video.
@@stefangagu85 Thanks, I am happy with it, but big full frame zooms do cost a small fortune, so I am impressed with this bridge camera. Most of my lenses are currently minoltas with the LA-EA4 adaptor, not sure how much improvement I would get buying a GM lens or the benefit really spending a couple of thousand when the minoltas seem to be so sharp (like the F1.4 50mm,100mm 2.8f macro, 28mm f2.8), if I need fast focusing I have the 28-70mm kit lens, which seems to utilise those 43mp.

Some times its nailed because the product reviewed was good and satisfying alone to the customer, and not because he said so. But he's willing to ignore bad aspects of some cameras and push you through to buy them...
You can’t possibly assume this camera shoots video just like a 2k dollars Sony A7 iii or Canon EOS R. This only shows you haven’t properly researched the products and only confuse your viewers. A two thousand dollar camera can shoot at significant higher bitrates and also in 4K 10bit and have many other pro features. Do your research!

Sorry to say this but you are a that pushing to hard. It's tech (slowmo) was already available in the Sony rx100 iv(2015). For audio there is something really useful ( mi shoe) that means you don't have any lose cables for audio in.
I hate the focus on my Nikon P1000. Only about one-fifth of my videos come out acceptable, and Im not picky. Im looking at this Sony with the hopes its focus is much better...
Great Review!!!
When is the RX 10 V coming out?
Latest rumors are November 2021 or next year 🤔
@Steven... somewhere between Nov 2021 and July 2022
Fantastic review!!! Thank you!!
plz compare d5600 and sl3
Great review , thanks
I love this camera its awesome
Hello, I am very new in this domain but I would like to buy a camera perfect for recording a video for music production. What camera between 400-700 dollars would you recommend me?
I would suggest either a canon sl2 or sl3 with a external video mic or a canon g7x MKIII with an external video mic. Great question
Shame you didn't mention the stabilisation which btw is very important on a camera with such big lense. Also I was a bit disappointed that you talk about amazing video shot by the camera but we can't appreciate it becaus you shot it in higher FPS then the review portion and it all stutters like hell.
is this cam mirrorless?
Yes, it's a bridge camera, so it is between a compact and a systemcamera (which is already without mirror)
What about of sonnyhx400v
Love your videos , one thing you didn’t mention , I’m sure you can use a power pack and use it while charging .
Great name, btw 🪄
@@DeeSee77 Why thank you, it's particularly relevant for these times.
Newbie vlogger who travels by motorcycle in dirt, dust, & the like. I did photography a thousand years ago & want a camera that will macro & vlog... is this it? The Sony RX10?
Rx10 ív will be perfect except for vloging because lack of flip out screen.
First of all! I want you life! do you need a travel buddy! and this camera comes close but not quite. I think a g7x MK2 or MK3 will be perfect! it has the macro geatre and will hold up in dust/ dirt.
ps. I want your life! you sound epic!
@@TechThroughTheLens thank you so much for the advice! & it’s always fun to have someone to travel with :-) peace
@@TechThroughTheLens PS - we all have amazing lives, I often lose sight of the extraordinary in someone else’s daily existence. You are kind and fantastically talented. Peace
Hello, do you think this would be a good choice of camera to give our 21year old to photograph whales, penguins and icebergs in the Antarctic, as they will be going on a geographical expedition there, and it will be rigorous at best?
The title should say its a review of the cameras video capabilities but you did not talk about or show how it works with still photography.
Yep, no discussion on many of the most basic camera functions. So many of these reviewers seem to be just blown away when it comes to FPS specs.
@@meekerh yeah he never talks much photo but throws in whatever he knows of video, which im not sure its that much other than specs, and hype them like "yo go buy this camera its just amaaaaziiing"... but practically for no other people who dont know of cameras or just like to show off gear these reviews are kind of... really bad, i recommend reading the official spec sheet instead and look elsewhere to real photographers, videographers, real testers, with real experience, real usage, testing these products to their limits, be honest when there's bs included, and speak in more advanced terms so people go away to understand cameras before buying something a "cool" guy says its a "cool" product.
Some times its nailed because the product reviewed was good and satisfying alone to the customer, and not because he said so. But he's willing to ignore bad aspects of some cameras and push you through to buy them...
Which is better the a6400 or the Rx10 please. ?
6400
Better for what though? they are made for different things. Figure out what your use will be and then it will be more clear.
I love this camera!!!!
Seem to be a very good allround camera if you don't know what you will run into. 🙂
Point is, your right....but very few people pixel peep so deep as to care. Don’t forget that any of those cameras have interchangeable lenses that can get the reach that this camera does, without a considerable lens (s) expenditure. Show me the a7iii and lens coverage for 24-600mm with 4x digital 2400mm for a $2k investment......oh and has all the other features to boot.......go ahead, I’ll wait.
Nice one 👍
Does it have that stupid five-minute limit on 4K video, which makes it useless for filming concerts?
@@Kwatshivo The HX99 has 29 minutes for 1080p and 5 for 4K.
@@Kwatshivo Beats me 🤷🏼♂️
