- So, here is a quick little video on how to paint your rims/wheels on your bike. Believe it or not, most factory black wheels are painted, not anodized. You can take a few extra bucks, a little elbow grease, and end up with a nice looking wheel when your done. Cheers!!

This guys been breathing fumes from all
Those chemicals.
If u wanna paint it with the tire on deflate the tire and put note cards in between the tire and rim to mask it off
Beautiful looking wheel. Can't wait to see how you tackle the rear!
How did you get the tire on the rim, without damaging the paint? I painted my offroad rims, and the paint got ruined by the tools that you need to get the tire on the rim...
holy shit, ive seen so many posts referencing the mighty klx 351 Katsumi while looking for info on my klx300, and i've just come across this video out of chance. you and all the other old guys have been such a help to me when trying to find info for a bike that was phased out over 10 years ago!
I really like the way your doing this bike for your son. It is the same thinking I did with my Jeep. The drive train is always where I end up spending the money and the paint is something I don't get upset if there is some paint missing. Sand it, paint it with some overspary and wet sand it. Done and no stress. Long, long ago bought a new car and all I did was stress over everything. Took all the fun out of it. Can't wait to see the white fenders pop on that flat black. Nice job.loving it S.C.
lovin the how to's, thanks for taking the time to make these videos.
Great vid I'm a painter and you covered all you need to know great vid lad ride safe and remember to smile :)
That is going to be one great looking bike.
Awesome man, I have been wanting ot do this for awhile now!! Thanks for the great video!! :D
Great video! I am doing this to the KLR!
Out of all of the cans, (The primer, and the rest of the cans) Did you only primer it? Or if you didnt, after you used the primer, which paint did you use after?
I painted my solid wheels on an old Harley Fatboy years ago. Cleaning has to be done right, then masking everywhere paint needs to not go, (I cut out all the little details to give it high contrast, but again, those were solid wheels,) then I used automotive rollcage paint. It's self priming and lays down well with no excessive dripping or orange-peel. About three light coats built up on each other was durable and easy to clean and looked fantastic.
How are the rims holding up cause I'm really thinking about doing this I don't wanna fuck up my shit that's why I'm asking
Could anyone put links od this producs i mean of sprays beacuse i couldn’ t find they anywhere?
I did mine hot pink! :) looks and worked great! :) thanks!
Awesome!! Black rims on a KLR look tough!!
dang bro that shit looks professional
looks good -- hope it holds up
Looks sweet👌🏼
Love gold and black
Much luv Sensei!
Thanks buddy! Just trying to be like you and Katie!!
Looking gooooood!
How did the paint hold up over time?
Back at ya brother!
That definitely deserves a sticker!! Show us when you do it!!
How about chartreuse????
OHHHHHH that final result is so sexy! The Widow wants this! Thanks for the info, didn't know it was possible!
Rumor has it you can fix anything... even tough situations. :-)
awesome! thanks so much for the advice! i'm curious though... what is your opinion of mag wheels? like... 4 "spoke" solid aluminum, or so... i realise that if mag wheels were better, pro bmx riders would use them more... i'm just curious of your opinion.
This is freakin' fantastic! I have a "Title tip" for you, though. Remove the "KLX 351 Katsumi" part and you'll get a million views. On mobile devices you can't see the full title. Maybe move "KLX" to the end of the title. This is an awesome video! I'm going to try it as soon as the D606s wear out.
Ahhh....The widow.... Off to watch her video again....
im gonna paint my wheels soon on my little bike. might upload a vid of it if i get the chance to film it xx
i failed to paint them+Hayley1993UK
I haven't got on that one yet, I've had no time lately, ran into a problem with the motor, but I hope to paint it next week,
I just wanted to know what type of paint (flat black over epoxy) finally works the best for you. thanks
+lewis gillewis I just used flat black, and it has held up well.
How has the paint been holding up? Still nice? @MrDuhfactor
I think I'm gonna do this with the 450x... black rims look so good, but they're just so expensive!
eveRide ADV I love how cheap it is to do it this way, and in our dry desert, they last really good if time is taken to prep well. Good luck my man!
eveRide ADV -I got 15 size rim so small and so cool and its color black too
Thanks man!! The rear is going to be a pain in my rear.....
Good idea!!
So, any suggestions for us backyard painting folks? BTW, new stickers coming soon...... :)
I saw the bike is for sale.... but how did the paint hold up?
Still good buddy!
Thanks buddy!
How did the paint do in off-road conditions? I sanded, degreased, and tack clothed my wheels, then put 4 coats of VHT epoxy on them. It looks really good. Installing them I rubbed the rim up against some metal and it scraped some paint off. I haven't been off road yet but I hope it won't come off that easy. How has yours held up?
I just went out and checked the wheels, and surprisingly, they still look good. We ride a lot of desert rocky terrain out here, and I thought for sure they would chip, but surprisingly, they haven't. The rims had a month or longer to cure though before I started riding on them while I was finishing the rest of the bike. I used cheap flat black paint too, maybe that's the trick....
MrDuhfactor
Awesome. Did they cure inside the garage? I haven't rode on mine yet (getting a 351 installed) and so I'm going to let the bike sit in the sun for a few days. Hopefully will bake the paint on there!
They cured inside the garage, I'm sure yours will do great!
MrDuhfactor
How many coats did you use?
I think I did 2 coats?? I think..... Well, I can't remember now :)
Thanks for the tip buddy!! Tip applied :) *If* the D606's wear out :) J.K.!
a riding buddy does the exact same but uses polyurethane high gloss black paint and looks great and is pretty durable
I wondered why that one one hangin' around.....Thanks buddy....I'll put it in the red tool box with all of my other "special stuff".....Thanks Homie...
Ha Ha!!! Rojo's bike is getting some new rim locks!!
will i be fine taking the bearings out, paint, then put them bearings nack in. or just cover it with something and tape
You can either mask the bearing off tape, and leave them in, or take them out and mask over the hole. you will likely destroy the old bearings taking them out, so plan on installing new ones :)
+MrDuhfactor ok thanks
Aw man! Once I start riding, I was wanting to deck mine all out in Hi Viz Orange
Dude, that is freaking funny.....My wife saw the video and had that look like...."what the????" I had nothing......
Did that make sense? I ran out of space. I mean cut the tire lengthwise with the tread all the way around the tire and then cut outward across the tire so that it easily fits over the rim. you end up with two "sidewall" halves. Then you just slip the cut tire "sidewalls" over the actual tire and into the rim, and only have to mask the little part that was cut through. Would that work? This would probably be more practical if you were painting multiple rims... and had an old tire.
Over the chrome? How did u did that?
madhobby A light sanding buddy :)
WHATS THE NAME OF THAT SONG??
When YOU WAS SPAYING IT!!
Darude - Fucking sandstorm
Dude, I want to see a picture of your jeep....I love jeeps too...
I say you don't care what I think, but that looks good.I'm not going to give you a thumbs up how about two thumbs up!
Thanks my man!!
Hey! Have you ever laced a WR250R front wheel? Do you by chance know where the longer vs shorter spokes go? I cannot get mine laced cause i dont know where the different lengths go.
I have done a set, but I didn't record it, so I can't remember now how they went...... Seems like the longer ones crossed over 3 spokes.... man dude, so sorry, I can't remember.......
@@MrDuhfactor Ive been at it for 3 nights now lol. No one online seems to know either. Might just drop em off at the dealer...even tho when i called them to ask what spoke goes where they said all the fronts are the same length. 🥴🥴
@@MrDuhfactor Do you think I should try all the longer on the rotor side and all the shorter on the non rotor side? thats one combo i have not tried.
@@KevDoesStuff Sounds like it's worth a try, Maybe thats the combo..... When I laced Kalani's WRR, I had a buddy with me, and I dont remember running into a problem.... Good luck Homie...
@@MrDuhfactor So i chatted wuth a member of reddit and he measured his spokes for me. Told me the INNERS were the short ones and the OUTERS were the longer...
Opposite of what I did on the rear wheell... AND IT WORKED!
Yamaha had me STRESSED The last 3 days.
just painted mine last night, sanded, cleaned with acetone... let dry, 2 coats primer, 2 coats duplicator wheel epoxy paid to, 2 coats clear coat..... 12 hours later, I can scratch it of with my fingernail... I don't know if I did something wrong, or if it just needs to cure longer
that always happens to me, i dont bother anymore
Yup.... The problem was that you wanted anodized wheels, or a baked on epoxy finish but you sprayed painted them at home. 👍 Just keep her clean and ride her hard.
DMCAtemp account temp account hahaha, the problem actually was inconsistencies in either my prep or the paint, there are other spots that are amazingly strong. I stripped and repainted and it came out much better the second time.
It's a Bitch... to get right...
Ha ha! I am at work trying to watch your video incognito. My speakers were a little too loud, so everyone around me got a good morning Hey Hey Hey! Good stuff.
Hey, for the back wheel, you might want to air it all the way down, pop the bead on both sides and then mask it off. That would probably allow you to get better paint coverage, eh? If you have an old tire and can cut it, you could cut it down the tread and then cut across it so you have two half tires that you could easly use as a mask.
the first 5 seconds had me ahahha
the intro had me dying man haha
How long did it hold up for?
Venom_Rex still holding up after 3 years.
Looks great! Maybe get some spoke skins from Accidental Broadcast to throw on!
This is very cool I did this to my last dirt bike before i sealed it and did not get to ride it. But anyways i was wondering if you did this would the paint chip and if so do you think plasti dip would be better.
It will chip some, but easy to touch up. Unfortunately, I have no experience with plastic dipping, so not sure on that. If you give it a try sometime, let us know how it works out. :)
MrDuhfactor alright thanks I will give it a try :)
CARDON LIFE if your going to plastidip then put clear coat on as well
oh ok i still need to do that this summer but do you have any recommendations ?
song is
Apathy ft CoMa - Mr FijiWiji
VHT and others make epoxy paints which do not require primer. Remember "primer" is mostly "soft conformal paint". That is sometimes useful and sometimes backfires.
I just might take you up on the yellow wheels.
i duct taped mine pink for a cancer benefit race does that count?
Yep... you win the net for the day!
hell yea!!
Thanks Ogre!!
iF I MAY ASK SIR... what's the purpose of using primer paint first? what's the difference of using primer before painting and not using primer before painting??
+smutchers Primer is designed to adhere to the bare metal, where paint is not. If you paint directly over the metal, often times it wont stay on and will flake off quicker. So, we primer the clean metal on the wheels first, which makes it stick, then paint over the primer. The paint is designed to stick to primer well.
that's what i had in mind man .... thanks for confirming (Y) nice choice of color too....
+smutchers ye i painted and engine with no primer the paint is very fragile and just wants to come
+Vincent Bush just wants to come off
if you are using high tempreture paint which is for engine covers, do you still need primer? i was thinking that you might not need primer because primer is not made for high temp right?
Just the Duhfactor sticker will be fine! I would like that for my Banner!! Just make sure its made of vinyl, That way it will stay on the vinyl banner!!
Did you clear coat after paint or no?
AnthonyandMaria ROCHA you can do that or buy heavy duty chemical/dirt/heat resistant paint like his paint.
You did a great job how did the back turn out with the tire on. If you haven't don't it yet let the air out and rap the tube and tire in a garbage bag might help. Thanks again lad ride safe and remember to smile:)
Me too homie...
Ha Ha!! Letter goes off in the mail today!
use the rustoleum self etching primer instead. it bites into the metal a little better than the regular primer and it's only 5 bucks a can.
How long did they hold up for?
+chadd bolden It's been 2 years, and they still look good dude.
+MrDuhfactor where did you get the paint from
how often have you had to touch them up
Well ... I would have put those rims on a truing stand and trued them to perfection before spraying enamel all over those spoke lugs. ... I wonder if you can still true them, without much hassle, now that they have been painted. ... Hmmmm. ... This is exactly what my bicycle mechanic told me NOT to do.
Next thing to do on my suzuki rm125 ! ;)
Does anybody know where I can find spokes for my 125?
Just off ebay or Transworld motocross or you could even check out rocky Mountain atv

Thanks
cool
Hey I would love a go faster sticker ?
Dass a berry nice
do you think blue rims would look cool on my kx 100
Absolutely! The good news is, if you don't like it after they're done, you can re-paint them!
thank u great video I will give a video on it when I spray paint it thank u
my kx 100 has monster plastic on it
I think it would look cool, you can always repaint a different color if you end up not liking it :)
Yes!!!
I'm painting the wheels on my ,76 cb750F sand color.
Done with paint. Sprocket and chain guard are 'sand' too. Rear wheel is mounted. Now I need to cut extra links off.
pdx650 Awesome!!! Way to go!!
Wow !! Great choice ! I can imagine how awesome your bike would look in the sand colour !...do post a video of the same
U made me crack up laughing
Man, I'm not that cool.... But, maybe some day!!
Pink and yellow are pretty standard now days 😂 specially on the sm bikes
mmmmm.......Dang.....
Dude!!! Anyone with the Cajones to paint their crash bars or skid plate pink deserves not one, or two, but three stickers!!!! Holy cow bro!! And the Barbie music? You seriously take that one over the top bro!! So....You can either have a full set of suspension stickers, or....be the first one to get the new Duhfactor stickers to come out in the next few weeks....Man...My hats of to ya brother.....You need a bucket to pack those stones around...
Is this 16" rim?
18"
@@MrDuhfactorit looks very small . i think it is 16" or 17".
intro=dislike
Like me.....Never enough time........
Any1 painted them pink yet?
I think your gonna need to take the tire off, I'm just saying! Good luck man!
Hahaha my daughter wants her rims sprayed in pink on her kxf 250 she wants it pink and white :-)
I wouldnt recommend painting over the bearings
It won't hurt the bearings. All wheel bearings are sealed. Any surface paint will scuff and wear off the surface of the bearing seal before it would ever get past the seal into the bearing balls and races.
Don't loose that spare spoke so I can match them up
