  • New findings suggest an old method for preventing the flu may also help prevent Alzheimer's disease.
A study shows that adults who receive a flu vaccine are less likely to develop Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
But does level of protection exceed what can be achieved naturally through diet and lifestyle changes? Dr. Neal Barnard examines the findings to get an answer.
    Topics
    - How effective are flu vaccines in preventing Alzheimer's disease and dementia?
    - What foods are best for preventing Alzheimer's?
    - What foods increase the risk of cognitive impairment?
    - How can you slow the progression of Alzheimer's?
    - And more!
Plus, Chuck Carroll opens the Doctor's Mailbag to ask Dr. Barnard your questions. Have something on your mind? Post your question in the comments or chat, and we'll get to as many as we can during the live broadcast.

Read The Alzheimer’s Solution by drs Sherzai’s. I’m not sure about the vaccine info, I think the jury is still out on that. Seems like a while food plant based diet would be better. This study seems incomplete: we’re the people plant based? Meat eaters? Sedentary? Funded by whom? I’d like to see the study.

What about Covid vaccines? I know there is alot of disagreement now over whether the Covid jabs caused more mad or good. I am a retired RN who worked several yrs for the Public Health System in Florida, so both gave and received a variety of vaccines during that time. I am also a Vegan for many yrs (since age 17, I'm now 71)😊

After participating in the National Senior Games, participants were asked to participate in an Eli Lilly study on Alzheimer’s. If we tested positive for the gene, we could participate further in the study. Good news/bad news, I tested negative so I couldn’t participate. ;) I was really looking forward to showing how much my diet was beating back that bad baby. ;) As always, appreciate you sharing the latest news from current research. ❤

In reference to the soda question causing dementia, the aluminum from the can soda can be problematic. But, if the soda is diet and contains splenda (sucralose) then, I have read studies that it can impair memory. Unfortunately, many food items, medicines, and drinks contain splenda (sucralose). I really don't know how this was passed and allowed to be used in so many food items. It really should be taken off the market IMHO.

I agree heartily about the cruelty to animals. I have been vegan since 1971 - which was very difficult during my years in the States. But I am only interested in evidence and good science. Now when it comes to man-made global warming, diseases spread by "germs" and the benefits of vaccines I have never seen any evidence supporting Dr Barnard's claims. Happy to review any research that he can provide. Cheers

Thank you for presenting a balanced report on the Alzheimer’s research, my mom suffered with early onset (age 57) and I’ve been working to be proactive since her diagnosis. It’s clear that the the WFBP diet and regular exercise help with the cardiovascular system so it makes sense that it could help with brain health as well. The studies on vaccines sound interesting.

I agree. Promoting vaccines to prevent Alzheimer's is ridiculous because Alzheimer's has never been so prevalent as it is now. There's no rational explanation that vaccines would curb Alzheimer's. Sounds like Big Pharma has won over our minds as well as our bodies. Sorry. Eating plant-based in order to stay healthy is logical. People who get COVID have comorbidities. Alzheimer's is called type 3 diabetes for a reason: it's a food borne illness. Let's not deflect from the real value of a good diet instead of drugs and risky injections. Now people will think: I don't need to eat well, just be a human pin cushion ! There will be a drug and vaccine for everything. But a healthy diet provides a healthy microbiome which is more protective than risky endless injections.

For more information on aluminum in the drinking water in the UK. There was a huge scandal in Camelford a few years ago. The symptoms people experienced told us a lot about what this metal can do. That's why you have never heard about it because it was suppressed. Read Exley's book for more. It's not just aluminum cans but Tetrapack use aluminum as the oxygen barrier.

I read that idiotic study about longer sleep being bad -- it was conducted by people who can't tell which caused which. Those who habitually slept more had more health problems but the cause was not the longer sleep but the fact that their health was bad and that they NEEDED to sleep more. Thus it wasn't the longer sleep that made them sick at all. So if you need to sleep more sleep as much as you need or can afford. If those people who slept more forced themselves to sleep less theur health would have gotten even worse

Well, I took the flu vaccine for four years in a row and each time, several days after I had the vaccine, I got the flu and that happened although I did not eat out or get into crowds during the flu season so I do not take the flu vaccine at all. I did take the COVID vaccine because my friend who has a PhD in science told me that the COVID vaccine was not created with a killed virus but with a RNA strand, whatever that is. My dad passed away in 1985 from Alzheimer's Disease. He was a physician age 75. My mom was a public health nurse, did not have any cognitive decline and lived until age 93. I feel I am at risk for Alzheimer's Disease and also do not like to kill animals or even insects so I am a vegetarian but will be vegan from now on because I do eat whole milk yogurt and see no reason to do this any more. It just enslaves cows which adds methane to the environment. You might want to recommend that the plant based food industry not add so much salt to frozen meals. I used to eat Amy's Tofu Scramble and meals like that but I don't need 800mg of sodium per meal a day.

However , when you gave credence to “ evolution “ rather than giving God , our Creator , honor for the gift he gave us humans from conception on that was sad to me as a Christian .
That being said, I was encouraged to hear about possible preventative measures w vaccines etc and eating healthier, exercising and my weakness , not sleeping enough and reducing stress( I was full time caregiver for my daddy for 7 years until he required 24 hr care .) 3:32

Only an hour long show. Can't eat up the time thanking all possible creator gods. They'd run short in time to deliver the science.
The good thing is you can thank whichever God suits you on your own! PRCM is concerned with science, not theology. For that, I for one am thankful.

I’m so confused after listening to the carnivore drs suggesting their patients recover on a all meat diet? Can that be true.

    • @Kayte...
      @Kayte... 7 месяцев назад

What's confusing? It doesn't even take science to prove meat based diets are killing us. How many WFPB people are there? Maybe 7% of the population. So if we have such a overwhelming health crisis in this country it should be pretty evident who is getting sick. Certainly 7% of the population isn't creating this health crisis.
Certainly fast and processed foods are contributing to this but the science shows it's also animal products. There are no studies that show a meat centric diet is healthy.
But ignore the science and look around you. There's your answer.
I think it's plant chompers RUclips channel that has 2 excellent vids on how misinformation is promoted.
I'll look up the names and post it here.

@eldaeye9107 I am not a doctor or a expert but as a former morbidly obese person I can say that carnivore and sad diets are extremely bad. When I started eating wfpb I went from 339 pounds to 193 pounds without even exercising. I reduced my severe acid reflux disease by 95%. I cured my sleep apnea and didn't need to sleep with a pap machine anymore. Which is a device that helps you breathe if you have sleep apnea. I reduced my extreme inflammation in my joints. And I feel better physically and look better physically. Some of the people that promote carnivore diets know that people would love a excuse to eat a lot of meat. And usually love meat themselves. Which is why many of them make fun of vegans and put them down. Since eating meat has become not just American culture but more global now.And since many other countries have more access to American fast food restaurants. Think about all the people dying from heart attacks, severe acne, and severe digestive issues. And some carnivore dr.s or RUclipsrs might truly believe that carnivore is healthy. Not all of them are doing it for a money scheme. I guarantee to you that as long as you don't have underlying heart issues or other severe disorders. You will never get a heart attack from eating a low fat wfpb diet. Which means very little oil or no oil at all. And no fried foods. You will be healthy. Carnivore diet is very bad. Trust me. Hope this helps.

Imo they avoid triggers like allergic reactions, but they are not getting healthy. They are just avoiding. If they want to really cure, they take their diet down to a bare minimum of good starch they can handle, like rice or potatoes and slowly add more foods to see where the problem lies.

My experience is that, once someone kind of knows they have a cognitive issue, it’s already too late to do anything. Only option is to go with the flow. Enjoy life. If that means tons of vegan cheese, greasy soggy British chips and lying around all day watching quiz shows and sitcoms. Go for it.

It's the cows and the chickens fault, silly! The students know all about it. Let's have a bowl of Wheaties with a big banana on it. Also add a nice glass of orange juice and toast with margarine. That will certainly chase that alzheimer's away.

Dr. Barnard is a clown! The Physicians Committee's positions are all informed not by science but by the theology of the 7th Day Adventist Church. But many of the things he says are true. What has Doctor Barnard to say about the works of Georgia Ede MD and Chris Palmer MD and Dale Bredesen MD and the effects of ketogenic diets in helping to prevent postpone, or eAnxiety and on and on?
