Shame on you for not playing the Newlywed Game punchline. She was asked the most unusual place they'd made whoopee and she said, "In the ass." Nowadays, saying something like that is no big deal but back in the 70's it had to be censored.
I’m surprised “The Price Is Right” who got a perfect bid in the showcase round wasn’t mentioned. Like the “Press Your Luck” scandal, the contestant researched the prizes in prior episodes. Technically, he didn’t cheat, but you could tell Drew Carey was dumbfounded.
As a kid, I wasn't as OCD as that contestant was but, yeah, the prices for fridges, cars, etc were standard. Sad about Press Your Luck because that game was fun.

Most of these aren't what I would call "scandals." Most if them are contestant or host screw-ups. It happens quite a lot where the judges rule against a contestant over a spelling error or mispronounced answer. I don't regard the "Press Your Luck" incident as a scandal, really. The guy figured out a loophole to exploit, which IMO is perfectly legit. The producers and creators of the game set the rules and it's up to them to make sure every detail is checked.
I remember loving whenever the bidding prize was a pool table. Holly would do a break, and it was always a perfect break with all the balls going into the pockets.
Michael Larson didn't cheat. He beat the system. He might have screwed up in other part of his life, but what he did on Press Your Luck was not cheating
There were a couple moments where he risked stopping at a Whammy: when he won a trip to the Bahamas and when he won a sailboat. Each case was a mistiming as he knew the next square that would light up was one of his target squares. The Bahamas square was the same one where he got his one and only Whammy. He might have lost more money than Kathy did after her seesaw battle with Lori had there been a Whammy instead of a prize.
@@GeorgieB1965 Yes, I watched that whole thing. It explained how Michael Larson did what he did and how they know he did it. It also explained how all of his winnings ended up being stolen. I'm surprised you didn't mention the Price is Right contestant who guessed the Showcase Showdown exactly. While it wasn't cheating, like the Press Your Luck guy either, it caused quite a stir.
He killed her after he was on the show with her and he answered a very 'telling' question . That question and his very uncomfortable answer would be referred to over and over again after the murder.

17:02 Chuck Barris, producer and host of The 'Gong Show' was a real character. He wrote a book in 1984 (which was later made into a movie, directed by George Clooney) called 'Confessions of A Dangerous Mind' in which he claimed that working as a host and producer of The Gong Show, as well as The Newlyweds provided him cover for his real job of being a CIA assassin. (He later 'confessed' that he'd made it all up, but 'had thought that it would have been interesting if he really had both careers at the same time.'
Yeah but what happens if English is your second language and your diction is different? Or a speech impediment? The pronunciation thing is unnecessary. It's knowing the answer that's the true skill
@@CherylSimser No. It doesn't work that way. You have to say every letter up there. That's how it works for ALL contestants. I've seen other contestants be ruled incorrect for mispronunciation. It wouldn't be fair to them if they gave her a pass.
Funny thing about the Wheel of Fortune answer - I also got it before the reveal, with just the L, in a matter of seconds. It's a very common phrase. Honestly, just good playing on her part.
Absolutely love watching Marc Summers on Double Dare, when I was younger, he was so happy when kids and families won. And to know he was fire for a disability is outrageous, but it happens to regular citizens as well. It shouldn’t be allowed to happen to anyone. I hope he sued the shite out of them.
I watched a different show about bad things that happened on dating shows. And one of the worst was that one. After the person who is going to go on the date is picked. The couple get a chance to have a little time to get to know each other before they are suppose to jump in the limo and go on their date. They were the first couple so they got the longest time before the end of the show when they would have to do that weird thing about blowing a kiss to the camera and the audience. She refused to go back on stage and she refused to go on the date. During their pre date someone from the show came in as she tried getting away from him. He was holding her wrist. And the staff person came in and saved her. And they told her that they didn’t want her to go out with him and she agreed it wasn’t a good idea. Then they split the money and gave him half and her half and they snuck her out a back door and sent her home. Then when she called to say she was home they told him the date wasn’t happening and sent him home with his share of the money. Then within a few weeks to a month he was arrested for the murders. And the show and the woman realized that it was probably perfect that she didn’t go out with him because she probably would have been killed if she had.
@@mattalan6618 Did I miss something??? He just said Rodney and the Dating Game. What was said wrong??? And why are you acting like a major miss step was taken???
23:25 I’m so sick of hearing Michael Larson is a cheater! If you believe he is a cheater, then you believe anyone that has studied for a test is a cheater! Ridiculous!
The password one is funny. Even Wikipedia has 123456 as the number one most common password. Takes less time to type and is also easier to type since they're all along the same row.
Yeah everyone should be able to guess what number one is. I used to like The Dating Game as a kid, but I don’t remember if I watched that one. I’m sure glad the young lady backed out of the date.
The Chase (#20) is fair. The question sets are picked at random in front of an independent adjudicator called Beyond Dispute. A few idiots claiming a show is rigged on Twitter based on nothing besides their favourite contestants not winning does not a scandal make.
22:26 - This was the final question for a million dollars. This was in 2001 - So you wouldn't know what the now most popular search engine (and owner of this site) got its name from, but that question can be easily answered by deduction. Megatron is a transformer. Gigabit - Giga = billion (not hundred), bytes and bits deal with computers. Nanomole - Nano = small, a mole is also a rodent but could relate to chemistry…
A nanomole is one billionth (10^-9) of a chemical mole unit. I actually knew the correct answer because of playing an old educational DOS game called _Googol Math Games_ where they taught you what a googol was if you pressed "G".
@ChristopherBingham-xx8xl If they tell contestants before the show to enunciated their answers clearly then OK, otherwise this case is forgivable because of the song
7: Him and his wife years later appeared on a celebrity edition of The Weakest Link (the rare pairs edition.) and while they didn't win they still did pretty well. But their only claim to fame still came up. You could hear coughing after they got their first answer right and coughing was even an answer to a later question. Specifically instances were it is discouraged, something was laughed off. Something that did happen with celebrity editions. I saw former Big Brother contestants get 1984 questions for example.
0:39 even though I was born in the 2000s specifically 2005 they still play double Dare the old version of double dare and the production firing Marc Summers over having a disability it called obsessive compulsive disorder AKA OCD is BS. I participated in the play at home game show called PlayMania back in 06-07 when users would go online, call, or text in to get an entry to be called to answer questions to get money. I was called several times and won hundreds and hundreds of dollars from GSN. I was receiving checks every week from them for over a year because of questions I got right. I really miss that show.
The Marc Summer story is a despicable crime. Disney being dirty, no surprise. "You Say We Pay", the bottom of the barrel of TV. I agree with her 100%, loosing her job because she got pregnant is disgusting and should never be a reason. Ked Al Kadani, (I got the name off the subtitles), didn't cheat, he found loophole. "Our Little Genius" 🤣 That kid was in jeopardy of winning. Funny how Richards was able to give himself the job of host. Ingram, MAJOR Idiot. Again, Larsson didn't cheat, he did his homework and found a loophole, but fate was foul to him. Quiz Show is a great movie. They scored a bullseye getting Cooper. Filthy Fox robbed that couple.
What amazes me is that it takes a show for a husband to find out who his wife really is. Just goes to show you never know a person. Moment of Truth proves that knowing the truth can destroy your relationship. Maybe we all live in sort form of 4:22 delusion.
Wonder how there's only 1 international {Outside of UK and Australia} scandals that exist in this list, there's like 2 {Atleast in my country} major game show scandals worthy to be in this list. These are: - The wowowee stampede; and - Hello Pappi special {Yes, both are some of the most well know philippine game show scandals.}
I'm STILL SHOCKED _ no one ever cheated on The Newlywed Game. ie: take the 2nd choice, Even if it is not true, answer the second option in a multiple choice. Or, when you celebrate an answer, whisper the next response......
Marc Summers did a great off Broadway show, talking about his OCD and double dare. He is so intelligent and I loved that he set out to make a children's game show.
Here's a fun point regarding "Jeopardy!" and spelling. While I didn't make an appearance on it, I did participate with a Quiz crew years ago in Cleveland for the right to appear. One of their answers spelled Dwyane Wade's name as Dwayne Wade. I notified them of their mistake. A friend of mine argued that was why I didn't get a chance to appear.
Good on the lad who read the host's body language I say. Nothing in the rule book says you can't do that, if you couldn't then you'd need a partition between host and player because some people are just more perceptive then others
This list mentioned two "The Gong Show" controversies, but did not mention when Jaye P. Morgan flashed the camera during a live shoot. They had to censor it for the West Coast replay. She was fired afterward. It is simply the show's most shocking moment.
Without even thinking, I knew that Post-It Notes was the correct answer. Why do you ask? I have always known that the company 3M made them and 3M made Post-It Notes for Business Office environments long before Sony brought the Walkman to the world and the Mac was released. Instead of allowing the couple to return to a canceled show, FOX should have just given them the money which was rightfully theirs.
I believe with the kid who spelled wrong on Jeopardy there was a lawsuit, although not 100% sure. I remember there was such a controversy they never brought back the kid's tournament.
It was pointless. Had he gotten the answer right, he would have STILL been in 2nd place. It's the most overexaggerated "controversy" in Jeopardy history. The kid and his family needed to grow up and learn how to spell.
@@encycl07pedia-yea but if the contestant had got it wrong and bid $30,000, there would’ve been a tiebreaker and the kid who misspelled would’ve got another chance to redeem himself by ringing in the correct answer and would’ve won the game.

Barbara Lowe is my current/most wanted Game Show Scandal in full because so little is currently available/known about her full run on Jeopardy & a few other Game Shows of the ‘80’s that she appeared on/won.
She did an interview, and according to her, she ended up suing the production because they withheld her prize money from her. They claim it was because she lied about appearing on other game shows, she claimed it was because she got sick during the taping which cost them a lot of money and made Alex Trebek hate her. The only thing they agree on is that they withheld her pay, but for different reasons
@@anusthing yeah but it's like she did a vanishing trick when it comes to Jeopardy. She has never been mentioned or anything. Never been on any of the reunion shows or mentioned.

Lol I just wish he didn’t feel so inspired by women that he made 12 kids because of unprotected sex. How the hell does he pay child support for all those kids. Even if the kids age out he’s still paying a lot of money for them.
I don't see how the Jeopardy ones was a scandal. The guy clearly put a "T" in "Wimbledon" and he deserved to lose the money and there also aren't that many t's in "Emancipation." Spelling and pronunciation count for everyone so I don't see why those 2 should be given a pass
"No questions about this one! Someone's gettin' shaved!" Well said, Cena. I wish you could've defended your WWE title in a Hair vs. Title match against Eric Bischoff and used that very same "someone's gettin' shaved" line you said on that episode of "Manhunt", only as the Doctor of Thugganomics. I see why they called you by that nickname since you had two degrees from Brown (or Boston) University in psychology and physiology. You could easily have been an emotions therapist caring for patients who were sexually or emotionally abused by predators or child haters or worse. You go, Dr. Cena
My mom won a car on the game show" let's make a deal" in the early 70s. She dressed up as an Indian like Pocahontas. I've only seen a picture but nobody in my family can find the video unfortunately. I wish I could have seen it, if anybody finds that online somewhere make sure to send it to me, lol. I've looked for it but can't find it myself
Say it's a scandal all you want, but because she dropped the G her solution could not be accepted plain and simple. I know that's not what you said, I'm merely agreeing with you.
The Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune ones are crazy because all of the complainers got them wrong. If you can't pronounce or spell them correctly, then you are incorrect.
@@ChristopherBingham-xx8xl They control the puzzles. They COULD do it correctly and acknowledge how people speak. No one says swimming in that song. It literally says Swimmin' in the lyrics. It's ok to be wrong. Just own up to it and correct it. Don't punish an innocent person. This shouldn't have to be explained to you over and over again Chris.
gerry wilson liked this and it reminded me of my being on top card in 90s where i lasted three shows and the guy who beat me won a car should have sold him the tires i won
The 2 turns 0, ULTRA Stampede, boy coerced into dancing while crying of Wowowee and the spin-offs, the Sexual scandals of Eat Bulaga!, both Rosanna Roces badmouthing teachers and Tado vs a jury in It's Showtime, and the disrespect of an elderly winner in a segment of Tahanang Pinakamasaya was controversial in my country.
Larson re Press Your Luck: despite not being a cheater, those who control the games seriously frown upon those who figure the game out. It is not illegal to count cards at a Vegas casino, but odds are (pun?) you'd never be able to enter a casino if caught using your memorizing talents. Cheers....
This clip is 100 percent proof that John Cena can't do anything ( wrestle ,host, game shows etc) however he does know how to represent himself as a 40+ year old kid friendly cartoon character in human form
There were five patterns at the time and Larson memorised all five 18-square sequences. After his two-parter the technicians increased the number of patterns to 32 and in subsequent iterations like _Whammy!_ and the 2019 run, it was computer randomised.
Rigged gameplay section; i firmly believe the game show "eggheads" did the same thing too. Always giving the eggheads the easier questions, i watched the show often in the early 2010's and stopped watching it after I noticed the pattern.
"The Gong Show" was mentioned twice but could have made the list 3x. There was an episode where Jaye P Morgan bared her breasts by unbuttoning her blouse and pulling it open. (In other words it was on purpose.) ALSO on the "Got a nickle" skit, Jaye P Morgan gave the girls a 10 and said "That's how got started."
Being from Florida does not signify that you will pronounce it swimmin. Plenty of us in Florida do not have a southern accent and even if you do if you’ve watched wheel of Fortune enough, you know that pronunciation counts.

You'd think that by now people would know that when you're on Wheel of Fortune, you need to over-enunciate and pronounce everything perfectly to win.
Yeah but what happens if English is your second language and your diction is different? Or a speech impediment? The pronunciation thing is unnecessary. It's knowing the answer that's the true skill
She picked the G. Her pronunciation was her accent. The show was very wrong in this case and I hope she fought and won in court.
@@CherylSimser No. It doesn't work that way. You have to say every letter up there. That's how it works for ALL contestants. I've seen other contestants be ruled incorrect for mispronunciation. It wouldn't be fair to them if they gave her a pass.

Absolutely love watching Marc Summers on Double Dare, when I was younger, he was so happy when kids and families won. Rodney Alcala on the Dating Game
did you even bother to watch? i dont think you did. had you you would have heard that it was #1
That was the first thing that came to mind.
At least the contestant never went on that date with him... whew.
