I actually was in U995 in Laboe/Germany. In spite of some details like the big depthmeter right hand side, it´s pretty much like in the original U-Boot. But I as a German like the original german labels on the gauges and switches and levers much more. Understandable ;)
I lived 4 years in West Germany as a kid. My parents traveled around visiting many of the historic landmarks throughout Europe. I would love to go back and revisit many and check out some others I have never seen. Perhaps when we retire and start sailing the world.
AoB is the target's bearing to you... not the other way around. Also, the ships length dial doesn't matter unless you are firing a salvo, it's used to calculate the spread angle. You can use the ships length divided by visual marks to also derive the AOB. Alternatively you could plot their course get it that way. Personally I'd like to see an RAOFB (its a slide rule that was installed on the periscope). I'll have to look to see how accurate the hash marks are and if one could be made and printed out.
Thanks for the comment Munky332. I did figure out the AoB after. It is quite difficult to accurately target. I may do a video this weekend with a couple friends to make it easier.
I was guessing the AoB from the targets ships perspective I just find it difficult to determine accurately. Usually I approximate the targets heading and in my mind I project a perpendicular line and bisect until I arrive at feels close. I am sure it can be calculated but I have not had the time or mathyness to find it yet. Once we get more comfortable we will use the charts more.
@@ramkitty the Calc is actually pretty easy. There plenty of tutorials about it. Basically if you know range (based on Mast height VS optical size) you can calculate based on aspect ratio VS ship length.
even though length is only for salvo, you have to input exactly its length, no matter at what angel you are looking (you set it on 30 based on beam and the AoB for some reason). Computer determines spread angle itself according to actual LENGTH, distance and AoB
I really like this game; Silent Hunter really lost it for me when we started having to give a shit about the crew. Oddly enough, this feels like a much slicker version of Silent Hunter 2. Great graphics.
How do you figure out the distance? EDIT I’m stupid and forgot to watch that part To find the distance, just find the mast height and divide it by the centigrades of the ship
Distance is figured out by counting the hashtags through the periscope off the water to the top of the mast... but first you need to identify the type of ship so you know the height of the mast... then there is some math... depending on what zoom level you use. It is not so bad if you read the manual in game on it. Then just experiment launching torpedoes.
@@MrAndrewSKinner Apparently there are also some ambiance sounds in the back ground every now an then. I head a hissing sound just in front of bilgepump. And I got all paranoid if I had left something open or someone else snuck into my private boat.
I'm new to the game but I think you're supposed to use your ballast tanks & then momentum to control depth, or if you're sitting still you could allow water into the negative tank but I tend not to play with that - ended up stuck on the ocean floor in my first mission haha
@@boston4715 I found that if i followed your videos, with the current version of the game it does not work, i have to flood all tanks, then had to release on trim valve (green) to 10 then i could use the dive planes to approx 5deg up to keep from sinking or rising significantly.
Andrew: Just got the Wolfpack and tried getting into their Tutorial. When I clicked on Captain as you did, all I got was a Question Mark; you got a colored figure. What am I doing wrong? I did like going through the Tutorial with you; it was very instructive and will be useful, if I ever get inside the Submarine...lennyf3
Have you tried the bots in the recent update? Holidays are coming and I may open a lobby for peeps to join. I will make an announcement prior to playing.
Sick videos man, really helped me
Finally got the TDC to fire torpedoes properly. Check out the last video and thanks for the sub :-)

@@MrAndrewSKinner Yeah. Do this. It's definitively worth it. BTW: Where did you live? Perhaps in Rhineland-Palatinate where I come from?
That AOB dial is to be considered from the target pov. From your perspective at 18:55 it is more like 160 port.
I am pretty sure you are correct. I haven't had the time to jump back in that U-boat and give it another go. Perhaps this weekend.

Is that hissing due to recording? Or do you have a blow valve open still?
I would have to say that is my audio hissing :-)

can you update these with the latest version, because following this does not allow me to keep sub level at periscope depth, it wants to rise.

With the bots update... you can click on the depth you want and the bots will keep it level.

Are you doing the Wolfpack tutorial in game? Perhaps just start a new game, then you should be able to select your sub and pick a spot on the sub.
Andrew can you make this series into one video?
Also subbed great videos :)
I doenloaded a cracked versoin of the game, with the ships not appearing, but I am willing to pay for the full game, because it looks so interesting
It was easier multi player... with the recent bot addition, I will prob have another crack at it solo. On a retail version of course... :-)
Definitely Looking for others to play with.. Any one
