Great video Andrew. I did observe where you made one miscalculation on the TDC. The 'angle on bow' AOB is not the angle the target ship is from your bow as you have presumed. Imagine that you are on the target ship then the AOB is the angle that the uboat is from the target ship. In this case it would have been approx. 170 degs bow left. Hope this helps you to get the 'error light' to green next time.
I had a similar comment and think I should test it out. The angle on the bow moves as you move the attack scope, but in looking at the manual, I think I may have to manually swing the dial 180 degrees... it also appears that the light was out, you need to be looking through the attack scope to launch torpedo.
@@MrAndrewSKinner That AOB dial and periscope movement is locked. So wherever you look, if a ship in a convoy was at that bearing (they move parallel so each bearing has it's own AOB) then the TDC will calculate with the proper AOB angle to shoot the torpedo. So, set AOB once (if accurate) and it should be good for all as it gets update as you turn the scope/uzo. Assuming they don't change course.
Great Videos Andrew keep em coming please we are all learning with this Wolfpack Sim even us old salts from Subsim weened on silent service aces of the deep SH1-5 if your a member of Subsim send me a pm blackswan40 same avatar
Thanks for the comment. I also put a lot of time into Silent Hunter back in the day. I have been to subsim a few times, perhaps I will join. Again... Really appreciate the comment.
Nice video man. First of all it's not hashtags it's called centiradian. Secondly your angle on bow is about 180° off. The red light says either target to far or no torpedo's. The length setting only nesc. when using salvos 'etc.
Near the end, when he is shooting the two ships with the deck gun, I am pretty sure I spotted two Kingposts. Can't wait until I can buy this and try my hand at it. Thanks for making these videos I enjoyed all of them Andrew Skinner
Great question... If you look at the map I plotted, you can see that it appeared the ships may have been heading 230-240 degrees. Then on the last map plot, I unfortunately put myself behind them. In the last video I got a much better approach broadside of the ships. I will plot the next group a little more accurate and try to cut them off from the side. Although, that is much easier said then done.
see the thing is... i was really enjoying hunting the ships down with with the diving and the raising and adjusting rudder e.c.t. but then we got to trying to shoot the ships. Thats where my position on this game ends. Me and Maths? We have an understanding. We hate each other. and believe me i hate maths more than it hates me. so trying to calculate what the ship is, how far it is, angle...what ever else there is that flew over my head. Even the explanation of 1:38 Just no. absolute no. forget it. Not even gonna try. although i do appreciate and understand the accuracy behind it all. instead of just an automatic system of "lock on, fire, watch it explode" God i wish i wasnt so fucking stupid when it comes to numbers. I fucking HATE maths with a passion.
I totally hear your pain... If you notice in my multi player video... I have a buddy doing it all. He also uses an online calculator to figure out all the distances, etc. (I believe it's called Fister or Fistor calculator for Wolfpack. I need to do another video and go over the whole targeting TDC thing again. If you like the lock on and have it automatically figure it out... I would suggest UBoat. It's the play style your talking about. I really like UBoat myself. Thanks for the comment... loved it. Couldn't have said it better... 100% agree.
Its a bad game, because you dont have any instruments to calculate the angle of bow like the attack disc or a Angle of Bow finder Ring around the Attack scope not even a statimeter for the distance. You only have a clock for enemy speed but you also cant calculate it because u cant bring together the length of the ship and the Time you measured. senseless game. Me as a german need this things to be sucessful. i dont shoot torps with luck, they are too expensive , they cost 20000 Reichsmark per piece.
You do know their range from you though even if their aspect is poor. If you cannot determine their length, you can still take 2 fixes and figure out their course which you can then use to calculate AOB. I'm sure the game will get better.
The game is still in very early access, they've been adding more to the instruments/controls available since Blaukriton's comment. The means for operating a U-Boat at the time this game is set was also likely rudimentary. Furthermore keep in mind that torpedos cost significantly less than the ships (not to mention their cargoes) they're intended to sink, having browsed through some information on real world WWII subs I've seen a lot of attempts to sink boats that were fruitless, indicating that during the time period it was accepted that those expensive torpedos would not always sink their target but the cost was seen as acceptable, in the grand scheme of things the enemy would have much greater losses.

I guess the "Mmmf" was wrong, becauce none of the options looked like the ship.

Hey Rolf... I just saw this comment now... Sorry for not replying.
Thanks for the comment. Did you buy it yet?
The part I'm having trouble with, why did you not pilot along side the vessel (30 mins ago) to easily identify and set up for perpendicular shot?

The game is hard to play effectively solo. I do agree that shooting torps with luck is not a good strategy.
