Something to mention, LA Reid also made sure that Pink’s debut was going to be R&B. She wanted to do her own thing after that too, and he literally said “I will give you a chance to fail.” That fail was the Missundaztood album which was her biggest success worldwide. It was produced and released about a year before Let Go was out. I have a feeling that LA saw how the music industry was moving when Pink released that second record. I think that thanks to Pink, we got Let Go exactly how it was supposed to be.

I think young Avril Lavigne was extraordinarily fortunate as she just showed up with a great voice, musical approach an image that had appeal, without changing anything…
And even more so that she had confidence in all of that to reject eg. songwriters who just want to push “their thing“ on you to get points on songs and basically be a drag on your career…
I think Lee Aaron could have had much the same story as Avril Lavigne, she coming from a town 45 minutes away… but those were earlier times.

Avril really did pave the way for so many fellow female muscians that wers soon to follow her in the music industry. The likes of Hayley Williams, Taylor Momsen, Taylor Swift (to name a few) had the benefit of Avril knocking down barriers for them all in the early to mid 2000s. For them all to have the confidence of record labels to support them because Let Go and Under My Skin were both such massive hits. It proved that women during this bubble gum pop phase, can and should be allowed to write and rock out to their music should they so wish.
Her influence is still felt today with the younger generation some of who weren't even born when Let Go was released. It's really a real sense of acomplishment and serious credit all from the mind, determination and self worth of who at the time was a fresh faced young 17 year old girl from Napanee Ontario who knew what she wanted and wasn't going to tell people how to be.

Temple of Life was recorded before she got her record deal by a local artist in Napanee who she sang lead vocals for three songs on his album. The songs she's referring to here are before the ones found on the B-sides album that was released prior to Let Go so they probably didn't get past the writing stage. The B-Sides album is actually a good reflection of the process in trying to find her sound.

Some of her b-sides sounds very "friendly" and happy/positive in contrast (Take Me Away and Headset) of the angus drive (Losing Grip, Unwanted, Complicated and Sk8er Boi).
But, for me Get Over it is an underrated Gem on Avril's discography, it is a REALLY good song, it used to have a video here on YT that had more than 20 Millions of views (more than He Wasnt that was a single)

Her self titled had some attitude as well, but it was more of a fun up beat album with a bit of slow songs. HAW was definitely even more stripped down than GL. The only attitude I got in that was from the lyric “everyone’s got an opinion but I don’t care” in It Was In Me. I loved Britney and Xtina, and also Avril when she came out. Music is a kind of art you have to "feel". And there was def a vibe or mood for all of them. What saddens me though, is that, Avril is "stuck" in that teenage music and she hasn´t evolved musically,.... Her first 2 albums were amazing, and everything that came after was more of the same,......I just wish her music has matured with her....anyway, I still got great memories and nostalgia from the early 2000's

I think they mean more how Britney’s brand was crafted by record labels and managers to have a certain “good girl next door” image that became the staple amongst up and coming teen female artists. Her brand was heavily contoured for the public image and sometimes did not have the creative control she wanted. The media definitely pitted these two young girls as opposites of each other in ways to tear Britney down. When in fact they’re just two completely different artists that can’t really be compared

Britney and her team created that whole concept. But the problem was, the second the first single from Britney was released, and received it’s massive acclaim, everybody wanted to replicate it. Anyone who had signed a half-decent female singer to a label was trying to make the next Britney Spears. Even Disney channel had their own. (Hilary Duff). That image definitely took over the pop scene for a really long time, and only rather recently (like, the last ten years) has been overhauled.
