She wasn't very humble about it when she infamously elbowed Kelly at the VMAs right in front of the world, but ok... Of course she's saying this now many years later when there's nothing else for her to talk about lmao.
@@stateofdreaming that's right but if we're honest we know how avril felt about those talent shows so maybe that has something to do with that... kelly proved everyone's wrong, she has success, is a down to earth woman and a great vocalist. I think she earn respect from lots of other artists.

Kelly Clarkson is like the recycling factory of songs. All the songs other artists don't like to put in their album, Kelly takes them and makes them her own. Look at her now, still relevant as ever. 🥰

It's extremely common singing songs you didn't write. Especially because the songwriters make a lot of money like this. Do you know how much money Avril and the others writers own because "Breakaway" is a hit?🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
thankfully she didn't give away I'm With You for being too much of a "sad song" or a "church song". It is my favorite song by her.

Kelly Clarkson is a vocal beast! She can sing anything and genre!
This woman is so much more humble than she has a right to be, so cool! "I just didn't like it" lol, very mature to realize that just because a song was a hit with one artist doesn't mean it's a good vehicle for another one, even the writer. It's why incredible singer-songwriters like Carole King still have a massive body of work that rarely is remembered in their own voice, but in the voices of dozens, if not hundreds, of others.

She bashed all the pop singers back then. Once her career was failing she started realizing she needed to be friendly so she can get her career going again.

I will give you an example of a weird situation of someone giving away a song. In Europe there is an annual song contest called the Eurovision Song Contest. The singer that wrote and sung the Swedish entry (representing Sweden) gave away to the UK (Britain) a song he wrote to be performed by the UK singer representing the UK in the SAME CONTEST the EXACT SAME YEAR!!!!!! He was even asked about it by one of the presenters during the show, them saying he was competing against himself! These are the 2 songs from that Eurovision, the first man (the black man) wrote them both.

Both Kelly and Avril are legendary queens who shaped my teenage years. I love them both.
This made me happy. For years everyone thought there was this secret feud between the two because of what happened at 2002 VMAs. They’re both great artists whose talents came together to bring us one of the biggest hits of the 2000s ⭐️

@@mmurph people just created that. After since you been gone, people said Kelly was trying to be Avril but everyone and their mothers had that style and was doing rock pop/pop rock at the time. Kelly simply just was herself and that went onto her music.

I don’t know if Kelly hates/dislikes it, maybe she’s said at some point she didn’t like it. She has said her issue with it is it’s not very challenging as a vocalist to sing it. It’s a song she likes to do when her voice is tired lol. She also said it’s a good sing along to do at concerts. I always liked the song too. I wondered for years why Avril didn’t like it, but now I know lol.

@@stefinhofofo6425 I think the song most tied to Dr Luke that she wouldn’t even put her name on the writing credits for was “My Life Would Suck Without You”. She did work with him some for the album Breakaway (you’re correct that he did not write the song “Breakaway”) but obviously that wasn’t a great experience because she didn’t want to work with him again after that. Unfortunately when she was in production for the album All I Ever Wanted, the label blackmailed her into working with him, said they would sit on her album release if she did not work with him. She told RCA/Sony that she would work with anyone else on the planet but they did not budge (wonder why it was so important to have him? Plenty of other good producers & song writers out there who aren’t sex offending assholes).

I would love to see Avril on Kelly's show. I hope they discuss the whole VMA thing, and watch the clip for lols, and just put it to rest once and for all. I've been a fan of both of them for literal decades now. It would be so cool to finally see them perform together.

@@vamanosninja4143 Back in 2002, Kelly presented Avril with a VMA award, and tried to hug her. Avril kind of...pushed her away. Kelly talked about it years later on Howard Stern, and said that Avril had elbowed her in the face. Avril also commented on it, saying, "I guess I elbowed her in the face once? I don't remember!" Avril was only 17 at the time, and Kelly was still competing on American Idol. A lot of famous people were very rude to Kelly and the other idols at those VMAs. Kelly talked about it when Jennifer Love Hewitt came on her show recently. (JLH was one of the few nice ones, apparently.)

I'm a firm believer that songs end up with the artists they were meant for. Sometimes they become big career defining hits, sometimes not, but it's just one of those things in life. It finds its owner.. like with Breakaway from Avril To Kelly, Beautiful from Linda Perry To Christina Aguilera, and Miss Independent from Christina to Kelly etc.. tons of examples in music.

TBH Kelly’s version is much stronger and has all the right emotions. Avril had a ballad on her first album “I’m with you” she also had “Naked” if you think about it, breakaway wouldn’t of worked on that album. She wasn’t feeling it. Sometimes you gotta just let go ;)
She said previously while she liked the song, at the time it was not a "fit" on her first album with songs like Ska8terboy. She has a few hits of her own so giving up one to Clarkson did not bother her then or now. Clarkson relied more on other artists than Arvil ever did as Avril wrote or co-wrote about every song on every album she has done.
She meant she didn’t like it for HER. But she praised the song itself, Kelly did a fantastic job
Now she finally released her version of breakaway. And I’m in love 😻

I remember when I heard Breakaway for the first time in the radio as I was falling asleep. I was a huge Avril Lavigne fan and I immediatelly liked the song and thought it was a song by Avril but at the same time it didnt sound like her, which was strange. And then couple of days later I found out it was written by Avril :O #truestory
