India ‘helped’ Bangladesh in countless ways during that period. Housing the refugees ( several crores of them), rations, medical, security…..in every way. That was the time when India’s own economic situation was not the best ! India lost millions, possibly billions in engaging in this expensive war, converted US, Great Britain and China into its biggest enemies. The worst was losing over 3000 of our Soldiers in this war ! Housing over 93,000 POWs was no easy task as well. So when you imply that Bangladesh alone deserves all the credit, then that would be totally unfair………they had the passion to remove Pakistan from their existence, but to convert that into reality, India’s Army’ strength and money was required in its full might.
Without India’s help, liberation for Bengali’s would have been an impossibility…….at least for another 40-50 years !
