I have never seen an Anamorphic lens on a home projector before. When Digital cinema (in Cinemas) first came out, some prints were Anamorphic, and an Anamorphic lens was placed over the backing lens. But that was short-lived and never happens today. Within the projector, macros are created, (for all ratios), and in this case with the 2.39 ratio, the projector zooms the image up, until it fills the frame with the correct the ratio. Normally all formats will fill top and bottom of the screen, and the width will be in line with the ratio. Great video.

i have a uhd51 and a 16/9 91 inch screen. i simply zoom in 9 times on the wide movies and itll cut a little off the sides but it works great. very rarely youll notice but that can happen with text heavy or ui element. Still untill i can aford a dual ratio screen this is my only solution. and one i like. i just with i could save it as a profile on one button. Still its my first projector and i know when i get another in a couple years ill want some sort of profiling or memory shift, ill add skew to my list
is it possible to do option #2 in reverse? By this i mean use a projector that displays in 2.35:1 natively and just have black bars on the sides when viewing 16:9/4:3 content. Do such projectors exists at an affordable level for consumers?
i have a elite white 125 inch 2.35.1 ratio edge-less screen paired with my benq tk 800 m 4k projector will this be the best combo for mainly movies and 4k gaming as apposed to the cine grey 3d 120 inch 16.9 ratio screens i don't want to have to take my screen back so hopefully i got the right one PS you helped me understand the difference in aspect ratios and i play all my content at night in a well closed light free environment so the black bars i don't think will even show but just wanted to know some of you're thoughts on it thanks

What about having a manual or electrical retractable 16:9 big screen where you project your 16:9 movie normally and then, when you want to see 2.35:1 content you retract it's height a bit and it will be perfect?
That would work, but you would need to make sure the image isn't centered, but alighted to the top of the projected image. Otherwise you would have to lens shift the image up to align to the screen.

I can also tell by your comment that you where just a little bit excessively exited to make your point that the Epson 5050ub does in fact not project in a ,"proper" 2.35:1 ratio! It will be ok Brian, I promise you! The sun will still come up tomorrow and the birds will still chirp. Take a deep breath and relax.... .
So zooming or manipulation means you lose 30% of your resolution, 30% of your contrast, and in some cases 30% of your brightness, you are also expanding pixel size increasing the chance of fringing...
confirm on 5050(or 5040/6040/6050 - entire UB line comes with fully motorised 16 group all glass lens) - way i programed on mine - with the push of a single button on remote(lens 2) it streches into 2:35:1 and when done another click(lens 1) and it goes back to 16:9- all from remote never having to touch the projector itself. It might loose some brightness/contrast but with 2600lm rated (actual measured around 3000lm) and contrast of 1mil to 1(due to special ultrablack filter - hence UB in the name as well as auto iris) - there is brightness and contrast to spare. There is a reason 5050 is a reference projector for many projector sites. Anam. lens might be a bit better but it also costs as much as 5050ub itself
Or use a Barco Residential which uses a 5.2k anamirphic chip so no overshooting, no loss of brightness, contrast and resolution, no need for a bulky anamorphic lens. Full 4k 16:9, 5.2k native anamorphic... this being the best way

Say you are using one of the projectors that cost $10k to $20k. Once you add a scaler and lens...you are up to the price and you have a far longer chain to run, other artefact issues can arise as well. ...and you are near or at the cost of a Barco Bragi CS...

Movies are almost always filmed in 2.35:1. For those who want the movie the way the director intended, 2.35:1 is a great option. However, 16:9 is very widely accepted and common for home theaters.
For a Home Theater, it's pretty common to have 2:35:1 always on your mind, as it's made for mostly movies. TV shows and now streaming services aren't going to be the highlight of my home theater. It's showcasing a 4k blu-ray with correct audio and video aspects. Something I won't get over streaming.

Yeas… I have some rare 90s DVD true anamorphic squeezed video….I change the aspect ratio on projector then the fills up the screen

Hi. If looking for the lowest cost. We would suggest checking out our clearance screens.
If its a projector just dont use a screen and with the lights out you will only see the projected image no black bars.
The epson 5050ub does this without a separate anamorphic lense.
