Just today the cops approached a suspect on the street, 37th and Broadway, guy suspected of assaulting people with a hammer, as they got nearer he lunged at one of the officers, a female and hit her two or three times in the head with his trusty nail-pounder before her partner stopped him with four bullets, this was on a very, very crowded and busy intersection. Why don't they carry tasers? They could have had them drawn on the approach preventing the officer from being struck and shielded the public from stray bullet fire at the same time as bringing down the perpetrator?

I'm not a fan of violence. But I like the idea of a taser. It stops the enemy attacker very efficiently and can bring down dangerous hostiles to justice.
Bit at the same time people can pull them out. I have seen it and they actually have more energy and power.. They are good but people can pull them out.
It only works when the officer is pretty close (or the prongs spread too much and miss), and when the perp is either unclothed or wearing very thin clothing. All you need to do to defeat a taser is wear a winter jacket.
A couple of rounds to the head would do the same thing, cheaper and more reliable

Tasers require the prongs to effectively peirce the skin, thick clothes and a bad shot can cause it to just hurt and not cause paralysis.
if you take a look at the two probes being shot, you see how much spread the firing has, the second probe hitting is the difference between the less-lethal but still potentially lethal weapon incapacitating the target and you getting a knife in you because it failed and you tried to use a taser without a buddy backing you up with a real gun.

Another possibility for why he was asked to be the subject could be his physique. It's quite possible someone much smaller than himself could be sent into a coma from all that electricity and the pain it causes. I am aware that that's a stretch, though.

If they're not tased, they have a greater opportunity to retreat or fight back and injure/kill an officer. It's not like tazing's intended to be lethal either, especially compared to firearms.

Yes they can go through clothing, the little probes on the end are actually very sharp and long. The cadets at my school all got tased with this exact model, while wearing their uniforms, and they still stiffened up and fell.

I’ve seen about 400 videos where the taser either failed to penetrate the skin, or the criminal was unfazed by it.
Pretty much good if it's one of those that have fifty thousand volts and not those that you buy at the Walmart or drugstore. Those suck. Just to let you know unless you are a crackhead, the amount of electricity going through these things has the potential to kill you so being unfazed is a very rare exception
