- Black limba is a very cool acoustic guitar tonewood. Its lightweight and super resonant, long prized by electric builders, it's now finding its way into boutique acoustics!
I paired it with Redwood on a signature Model S for Will Mcnicol, it oozes tone, great dynamic range and ultra responsive. - Видеоклипы
Love your guitars and normally love your videos, and did, .... sans demo. Humbly, you did yourself a disservice by not showing off your great work by having a high quality sound set up and player demonstration.
You’re a hard man to please Sean. If you care to look, there are literally hundreds of videos of this guitar. In fact, the only reason I played the guitar in this video is because you complained in a previous video that I hadn’t. I honestly and humbly pointed out that I am no player. Anyways, thanks for your feedback as always! Cheers!
Lol Sean if this is the first guitar you’ve seen on this channel I can maybe understand your point but every single new build has demos by high end players alongside high end recording equipment.
I think you've missed the point Sean. This video isn't about what that particular guitar so much sounds like, but more about the timber used to make it and its influence on the sound of the finished instrument. There are other really high quality videos of this guitar being played by Will that really do the guitar service. Maybe check out the rest of Tommy's tonewoods. Very informative and actually one of the best series of its kind anywhere..
Come on, man.
@@TomSandsGuitars your channel rocks. I love wood and guitars. So interesting. Thanks for making your videos. Much appreciated.
Tom: “I’m not a guitar player”
*beautiful finger style*
Me: 😩
you're too kind!
I though the same thing. I have been playing for about 40 years, and playing like that is about all I can do.
yea damn he can play haha
Lovely tone! Thank you!
Nice playing actually and good looking guitar. Thanks for the knowledge.
top class! And well able to play.. :D Sounds beautiful..!
you're a good man
Yeah... nice guitar there Tom. Sounds the business... interesting pattern formation on the guitar back as well... till next time - cheers. K.
Awesome. As always.
Thanks again!
Oh hi, Jupes! 👋
Hay Tom.
I was just passing through on my way to another discovery and I saw this one.
I like you am not a guitar player but have a very similar not a player style.
Any way I will now look you up because I rather liked you and the tone of Jupiter was just wonderful on my non guitar playing ear.
As a father to a guitar collector and player I have access to a lot of very fine equipment and that makes non guitar playing a special treat.
I really hope to meet you somewhere along the way.
Nice
Fun!
So the sun does shine occasionally there! :)
once or twice a year vince!
A lovely wood. Works well as a soundboard on ukulele.
so i'm told!
@@TomSandsGuitars Pete Howlett has built an all Korina tertz guitar. Sounded very good.
Tom, I'm really enjoying all the information on the woods you present. Question. Where did you live in California?
i lived in berkeley and worked in oakland
@@TomSandsGuitars Nice! Been there!
Another interesting video as you say favoured for Electrics and I see you have experimented with Nomex but I was having a bit of a google a while back and don't think I could find a Black Limba topped acoustic guitar you see it as back and sides. So you see various mahogany topped guitars of different persuasions so I do get there are many fabulous top woods for luthiers to build with, many perhaps more proven but I have yet to hear a Limba top. Are they similar to say mahogany?
I'm yet to build one Jez, I think I'll have to!
@@TomSandsGuitars Think you have to do a scratch build at least just to cure the curiosity. As I said a quick google search did not really find me anything hence I asked in your broader travels around the lutherie community had you come across any.
HI Tom, thanks so much for the great video. i am currently building a Flamenco guitar kit, Can you please advise me on Black Limba for a flamenco build? usually East Indian Rosewood is preferred but unfortunately here in my country we cannot get it, so I was thinking to use Black Limba, of cuz profiled and sanded to Flamenco specs, thanks so much in advanced :-)
I'm not the person to ask unfortunately, its all steel strings for me!
😍😍😍
I have a fantastic Native American flute made from Black Limba..
Im crafting my own guitar but im confused, which wood i can use with the aged cedar top! So what do you recommend between ziricote, exotic black ebony, or black limba! Or maybe other type? Thanks
Depends what sound you’re after?
Rich and warm sound.
I want to Thank you for the beautiful, and informative channel keep going on👍
Never heard of it, but if the brilliant Will McNicol has it on his guitar then it must ok lol. Your playing sounded good enough and now if we can only get Jason Kostal (who I suspect is more than good) to play something.
heard him play once, he's good! (unsurprisingly)
It looks a bit like zebrawood. I wonder what limba top over zebrawood back and sides would look like.
I see that you use a honeycomb sandwich to avoid bracing, I hear the tone in your sample, does it deaden the sound compared to traditional bracing? tnx
I've used it a couple of times, not enough to form a conclusive opinion.
"I'm not a guitar player..."
LOL!
Haha, too kind. That’s literally all I got 🤣
excellent guitar
Thank you
Tom, how about some :Bubinga"?
It's on the list, quite expensive here in the UK and I haven't had much call for it. I'd definitely like to add a set to the collection!
@@TomSandsGuitars I have some bubinga for ya, Tom. Make it out to Texas, like you were supposed to last year, and I’ll hand it over. 😉
Korina is guitar's finish name
Thank you for playing the guitar. Not a guitar player you say?
I wish I was as good as not being a guitar player as you are 😂
very kind!
Not too bad for not being a guitar player...
