I'm thinking of using a heat gun. The soffit will have fresh paint so it should be clean. I'll heat the surface, apply a small amount of contact cement (just to tacky), heat the 3M tape, then stick light on. Hoping to avoid a bunch of screws.

@@coppercarver Won't be for a couple months. Been waiting for new siding which starts in a couple weeks, then permanent lights go up shortly after. Will be going without lights this holiday season but oh well.
