Thanks Thomas, I’m glad you can still enjoy these episodes even already knowing about the boxsets. Sometimes I like to watch reviews for albums long after they have been out to get a new perspective on the album.
Had to go back and skip through your last couple videos, Brendon to find Circus of Power cd. Glad to see they're still recording new music; another really great band that unfortunately not many have heard of. Only have Def Leppard's first box set but looks like have two more to buy. Thank you, sir as great informative video as always. 👍
@@BrendonSnyder Never understood why record labels don't release bands on cd and vinyl format for us die-hards. Physical goods STILL matter and love to have tangible goods in hand. Have a great weekend, brother and look forward to more cool videos.
Didn’t he record the first Def Leppard recordings on the 1979 three song E.P.? I’ve got the vinyl and a 3” CD of those songs are included in the Volume 1 boxset.
@@BrendonSnyder Wikipedia says the ep goes for £20 I brought my copy at the time for £1 and sold it to a Japanese business man for £200 it's worth more now
I agree it’s an underrated classic but it would have been a lot bigger if the song Nine Lives had not ferried Tim McGraw. The Joe only version included on the boxset shows how much better the song is as just a Def Leppard song. I think having Tim McGraw on the album and it being the lead single put people off.
I'm not a big fan of Def Leppard, but I think I'm much more into their early and nineties stuff than in Hysteria... I just found their Recordstore Day release this morning. Live 1980. Looking forward to put it on !
For me High ‘N’ Dry is far and away their best album. Great production, awesome AC/DC inspired songs. The pop stuff that followed lost me eventually. I reach for High ‘N’ Dry often never gets old.
Personally I’d go with Hysteria but it’s over played so I reach for others like On Through The Night. But I can’t just listen to one album. I like different styles of music and as a band grows and changes and records those different styles I grow with them. It’s the same as my enjoyment for the more mellow acoustic side of Jackson Browne or The Eagles. When I’m in the mood for that I may pull out one of the more melodic Def Leppard albums. But when I’m listening to AC/DC and want to rock, I may pull out Pyromania and so forth.
I think so much of post Hysteria is underrated. Nothing was ever going to live up to Hysteria and they are forever overshadowed by it. But they’re still making great albums.
Plan on getting this but have to get all things must pass by george harrison first fitieth ann one of my favorites like the cover they did on the art of mccartney to real nice job on helen wheels

No I didn’t order the new Mammoth WVH. I’ve listened to a number of tracks and while good it just didn’t grab me. I also had an issue with him replacing Michael Anthony in VH so I was never a fan while he was in the band. If the sound of the album was more in line with VH I’d be more interested. I had already preordered this one and couldn't wait for a sneak peek with your video. I know it is quite soon to ask, but any thought about what Vol. 4 might have considering there is just one studio album during next decade? More live material? Mirror Ball? Hysteria album live?
Regarding Vol. 4, I expect it will include their 4 live albums released. But I’m hoping it’s more than that. Something special the way they compiled Yeah II. If we’re lucky there are some great outtakes from the self titled album session and along with demos could make Vol. 4 worthwhile.
had to grab the vinyl releases of these and basically done w/ my CD's to this point. CD's sadly are going away thanks to the digital age but who knows no one thought that vinyl would ever return I am just glad folks still are buying physical media. Now as far as the vinyl releases / cd etc... the remastering is killer on all, and the addition in box set three of some of the Live Aid stuff or it could have been the Freddie Mercury tribute show were great additions. All in all if you have the first box it is worth getting the rest to complete the set especially the vinyl the back display facing anyone entering your media room is great but the reproductions especially on vinyl are worth it. I believe that Adrenalize is going for a crazy amount on vinyl regarding US pressing an Euphoria you really cannot even find period.
Well as long as there are people like me buying CD’s they will never fully go away. Besides in another 5 or 10 years they will be considered nostalgic like vinyl and make a come back. Heck they are rereleasing cassettes now. Haha
This is on my wantlist, but its just a little to expensive for me to get right now. I guess the big question is, do the remasters in this set sound better or the same as the original releases?
Yes they sound way better in my opinion. Instrumentation is much clearer. Keep in mind the boxset is Limited Edition. And since it’s of a timeframe that is not as popular of the band. There may not be a big pressing. IMO these don’t get cheaper in time. They’re usually the cheapest they will be during pre-order or the first week it’s released. That’s what I have found through Amazon. But maybe you can wait for a used copy.
I think Def Leppard is the most successful band in the eighties. Their albums in that era are phenomenal, lengendary, but the most important thing for me is when Rick Allen lost his arm in a terrible car crash, the band stuck to him and he was not exchanged. They constructed an extra drum computer for him so that he could continue drumming with one arm. That shows a high level of friendship and charity. I rate this great gesture very highly and that completes the great overall package. They changed their sound but when the result is so excellent you get used to it very quickly, especially the eighties albums favor me. Truly awesome stuff 👍👍👍.Mutt Lange has a nose for great success anyway and his ex wife Shania Twain too.
They are easily the biggest and most successful band from that era. It’s just a shame it takes them so long to make albums. It was a real missed opportunity in the 80’s to wait so long amd not capitalize on the success of Pyromania right away or Hysteria. While Hysteria worked because the era was still going strong and they broke new ground with the album, by 1992 when Adrenalized came out the screen was pretty much over. The fact that it still sold 3 million at the time shows the album could have been way bigger if they had released it sooner.
Vinylizer (Jon), another youtube channel that I follow- he's a massive Def Leppard fan. He's done loads of videos about them and has a huge collection on vinyl and CD.
The boxset only covers the 2000’s and the self titled album was released in 2015, it will be in Vol. 4 that will cover the 2010’s decade. Each box focuses on a decade. That’s why it wasn’t included.
A big negative for me on this set is the omission of all the tracks that were on slang deluxe. Plus there was several tracks that were iTunes downloads only that have never been on cd before. So a huge missed opportunity by Joe Elliot.
@@BrendonSnyder Because Joe compiled them. Here is the description from amazon. This is the second of four volumes of the complete recorded output of Def Leppard available as a 7-CD box set. The box features the albums Adrenalize, RetroActive, Slang, Euphoria (never before on vinyl) and Rarities Vol. 2 and 3, both specially compiled by Joe Elliott. However, it’s Not the complete recorded output because not one track from the slang deluxe cd 2 or the iTunes slang tracks are on it.
I listened to the box set over the weekend. Not gonna lie, but I thought X was trash. Still hate it. They don’t play anything from it on tour today. The only good thing about that era is that they started the X tour set list with side 1 of High N Dry. Yeah is ok. Yeah II and Live is good though. I really enjoyed that disc.
Well in this case, the boxset is really all about the bonus material. But I don’t dislike X. It’s a good album for what it is which is Pop. Sure I’d have preferred Def Leppard to rock on it like Euphoria, but it still sounds like Def Leppard. The only thing I didn’t like was that they recorded 2 songs that they didn’t write. They were both good songs but I’m interested in the band for what they create not what others create for them.
They’re releasing by decades so to complete the series and cover the 2010’s, I expect in a year or so from now we’ll get Vol 4. Not sure what bonus material they’re going to include as there was only one studio album and 4 live albums. I hope they do something interesting like they’ve done one this creating companion albums.
@@BrendonSnyder Yeah that's what I wss thinking, only one studio album. I forgot about the live albums though. Probably a new album on the way shortly. Vol 4 will be interesting either way.
No it’s not the most popular period of the band but there is still some good stuff to love. I much prefer where they are now having returned to their classic sound.
Does anybody know if there are fakes out there, I have boxes 2 and 3, they are slightly different sizes and the side printed logo on boxset 2 is off put and doesn't line up correctly, both were purchased from legit sources, box 2 ordered from Rarewaves (unless people have proof of Rarewaves not being legit), and box 3 ordered from Amazon (Shipped and Sold directly from Amazon)
No one is ripping anyone off. If you don’t want the content don’t buy it and you won’t be “ripped off”. But for me it’s worth it for the bonus content, packaging, remastered sound, and book. Lots of reasons to purchase.
