I take mine indoors during the winter because it gets really cold here, and for the first time it actually had a blooming cycle during the winter. They were pretty small flowers compared to the normal summer ones. It had never done that before, so I was really surprised. But it was nice being able to smell the flowers in the middle of winter.
We have been lucky. Neglected ours for 3 years and it’s over 10ft tall. We trim it back regularly because it interferes with the roof of our house. We had no idea what the plant was until recently. We bought the house with the plant and it was just newly transplanted by the seller then. I assume because we live in Florida the conditions are just right it keeps the plant happy year round. Should it be transferred in ground (it's around 4 feet tall, in a 10-12 inch diameter pot. And it's taking a lot of time for a single bloom and I had 2 bud drops. (However, when it's blooming, it's bloom is huge and smells excellent)
Yes, you can transplant. 🙂 And provide micronutrient supplement to your gardenia or plant growth regulators(PGR)/potassium. Try to go with synthetic products. I know these are chemicals, and many people don't like to use chemicals in gardens but organic ways work very slowly and are quite difficult to maintain. And I'm working on this bud drop issue. Will post a video soon.,🙂💐🌱❤️

After looking for months for the right video for caring for my gardenias (tree and dwarf Sweet Tea shrub, with failing my Swan Maiden shrub, I found your video most helpful. We live in the USA east coast. Zone 7. I am trying again after seeing leaves on shrub turn yellow, I was not going to quit. I was recommended from Lowes garden employee to use Special Orchid potting mix to keep it from clumping and allowing the soil to breathe and drain well. Tonight I am using my Miracle grow Garden Soil for trees and shrubs soil 50%, Better Grow special Orchid mix 30%, Miracle Grow Perlite 15%, and a little of Vigora Vermiculite 5% to hold some moisture. For fertilizing I was told to use azalea fertilizer granules. I am using your root soaking method and separated some roots and trunks for my shrub. Lastly top with about 2 teaspoons of the azalea fertilizer and dried up used coffee grains over top of 3-4 inches of orchid potting mix (Phalaenopsis) which has a little of chunky peat in the mixture. Are your gardenias still alive 4 months later inside the house? I ordered a gardenia plant from 1800flowers and it died a week later! I was sent another one 3 days ago. And now I’m researching how to care for it because I’m afraid this one is going to die too... I also live on the East Coast - NYC. Have your gardenias ever flowered? I was sent plants without any buds, although it was pictured with flowers on the website. Maybe because it’s winter now - February. I’m just wondering if you had any luck keeping your plants alive in this area? Thanks!

I wish my name was Gardenia! I love the flower sooooo much I have them all around my yard, they bloom beautifully!!! Thank your parents for naming you a flower. Queen of flowers! The scent is heavenly! 🌸🙏🏻💕
What an amazing name. I was literally thinking “I wonder if anyone has been named Gardenia?” It’s my favorite flower and scent and when I found it recently to buy it I was sooooo excited!
Hello, some leaves on my newly planted gardenias are turning yellow, but I noticed that a flower has started blooming. Is this normal when transporting them?
Florida. May 2021. It was blooming nicely. i put it on a lanai 90 degrees East, so it gets morning sun from sunrise to approx 11-noon. It started shedding leaves shortly and the blooms were gone fast as well. 2 weeks later leaves keep turning not just yellow but dark brown and 2/3 of leaves is gone. It is not sitting in water and only watered when 1 inch from the top is dry. I watered it with tap water, then filtered water, even with rain water. No difference. I added a weak coffee solution once. No difference. It is dying. I don’t know why.
Gardenias show such type of issue if their roots start to rot and this rotting can happen due to overwatering or over-fertilizing or fungal infections. Check the root system And use diluted fungicide (Mancozeb containing) once every 4 days. Only root rot shows such types of indications. 🍃🍃🍃🍃
check the PH of the soil and make sure that it is between 5.5 and 6, not higher - higher ph interferes with iron absorption, and can cause the leaves to turn yellow and then to die Magnesium deficiency can also cause yellowing of leaves. But the fact that they are turning brown indicates either over or under watering. It very likely needs less direct sun. Florida is a lot hotter in mid day , and also possibly on the lanai, the sun might be reflecting heat up to the plant in that noon heat, especially if you have light colored tiles or concrete under the plant. If the leaves are dry and brown, they are underwatered and probably scorched from too much direct sun. If they are soft and brown when they die and fall off, that indicates overwatering. Root rot can cause the same issues that result from overwatering... the roots cannot uptake nutrients and oxygen when the soil is too wet. A fast draining soil is really important, so that the soil does not stay soggy. Don't let the plant sit in a saucer if there is water in it. If you do use a saucer with gravel or rocks in it to help provide humidity to the plant, make sure the water is below the rocks, so the plant is not sitting in water. Overwatering creates soggy soil, preventing the plant from getting oxygen and nutrients. Overwatering can cause yellow and then brown leaves, but they will be soft, not dry and brittle. Root rot is said to cause a sour smell to the soil, and brown mushy roots. Root knot nematodes can also cause huge problems, including plants not being able to take up nutrients, which will lead to yellow leaves from not being able to make chlorophyll. When the plant can't make chlorophyll, this will cause the leaves to die. Rain water is best, as it helps to maintain the acidity of the soil, which as mentioned, is super important for the plant to be able to absorb iron. Cold weather can also cause the leaves to turn yellow and drop off. This often happens in the spring or fall. It happens too that older leaves will turn yellow and drop off not long before the plant starts to flower. I am not sure at what temperature this happens, but probably colder than 65 F since the Gardenia is said to love temperatures between 60-65 at night. Hope this helps. I am not an expert but have been struggling to find out why the Gardenias I bought have leaves turning yellow, and have been doing a LOT of research for the various reasons this happens, and how to care for the Gardenia properly.
Hello 🙂🙂 If chlorosis appearing on newer leaves then it probably can be for IRON deficiency. Use iron chelate or acidic fertilizer or soil acidifier. And if chlorosis appearing on the older leaves then it probably can be for NITROGEN deficiency. In this case, use a nitrogen-rich fertilizer. 😊😊 if you have more things to know then you can knock me on my Instagram or Facebook page.😊😊💮💮

It's growing is usual but the flower buds are coming and detaching time by time without blooming. I can't relocate the plant in morning sun as it's growing the garden soil not in Pot. Several factors can be responsible like heat, overwatering, underwatering, pests or potassium & boron deficiency or imbalance of soil pH. If your plant is well watered and there are no pests, then use a micronutrient supplement once every week. 😊😊😊
