For smaller birds you could always have an alternative bird table with smaller latice so that the starling size birds don't get in.It's just a thought and only if you are bothered enough of course...
That's a great idea! I had a couple of pigeons come down every time every time I went out to top up the bird feeder, which wasn't too bad, but now there are half-a-dozen and I'm afraid the neighbours might complain. They've started fighting and all you can hear is the sound of their wings flapping :(
@@WowURockify Goodness me, 30 is a lot! I think I'm just about on top of it here. I just have the neighbours cats pooping on the garden to contend with :(
I have done this great idea but still get the starlings bullying the small birds another good tip is putting tie wraps on the wire the birds use it as perches xxthankyou for sharing xx
I have done this on my bird table, it works really well, the sparrows and goldfinches pop through the square plastic net easily, and the pigeons don't get a look in, great!
I use squirrel cages on separate feeders and they keep adult starlings out too. All the finches, tits and sparrows can get in OK. Baby starlings can get in too but as they get fatter they can't. There's plenty of debris for the other birds but not enough to attract a flock.
Bloody starlings are a pain in the .... They are like a plague of locusts with the food. I for one would not be unhappy if they were in decline. Unfortunately not down here. Edit - quite happy with the blackbirds which are not greedy.
My goal is to thwart the regular street pigeons and at certain times of year, starlings both are flock birds and arrive like locusts cleaning out every grain of feed, fearless relentless bullies of garden birds and humans, make horrible noises. I put meal worms for my blackbird pair, robin and dunnock, hang fatballs for blue tits, great tits and sparrows, also seed grain feed for sparrows, my wood pigeon and collar dove pair. I couldn't live without the soulful coo of my woodpigeon to wake to. He/she is a sweetheart. So sadly this arrangement feeds the pesky pests not the loveable gentle giant woos pigeon - admittedly they do hoover up vast amounts of feed. We all have our favorites, and that's what makes the world go round.
I made these and they worked good, although pigeons hang off the sides scaring the doves. Had to take them down because Cooper Hawks kept trapping and killing doves inside.
So that the other birds have free access to bird feed without being bullied by the pigeons, without completely discriminating against the pigeons... it's not that complicated is it?
@@mikedenby6771 I didn't say it was complicated I just said it made no sense to me, there is a difference. You either want pigeons in your garden or you don't, they are not exactly nice birds and mostly considered a pest so why feed them or attract them at all. That's my personal opinion of course, as for pigeons bullying other birds that's not something I've ever seen myself. Magpies however yeah they are bullies. Anyway thanks for the explanation, have a good one.

Clever! Nice to see the starlings, they’re at risk and in decline so it’s great to see them feeding in numbers, we have a flock every year

i dont mind the doves, but those flying rat pigeons that butt in and gobble up all the food is what really gets my goat
This is a brilliant idea, was wondering how I could do this kind of thing

Must be a little awkward when carrying out regular hygiene maintenance.
Thank you. Will try this.

Pigeons hate water guns, windows being opened and shut loudly, tea towel flapped at them or being chased. 😁

You just need to get rid of the starlings now and make room for small birds
i hate starlings
Dustbin warblers. Lol.
I like starlings, but you're right..they're as bad as pigeons! They only leave once everything's gone :(
What do the pigeons eat
Hello I know this is an old post but can someone tell me what it is he is using?
Need starling proof as well, without stopping bluejays and cardinals from feeding. That might be impossible to do :(
Same problems here. I'd like to feed bluejays, woodpeckers and cardinals but not starlings. Starlings emptied dry cat food for strays.
It looks like you have a Starling problem mate. 😅😂🤣
So you put up wire to stop pigeons coming etc then provide a feeder for them? That doesn’t make sense to me I’m afraid but good idea on the wire.

What feed are you suing? I want to make a table that the starlings will come to. There is such a decline in their numbers where we are.
Starlings are an invasive species in the US.
Please do your own research.
Pigeons are still going to eat from ground with all the tube feeders.
I actually don't mind that as they clean up the mess!
How can you stand the noise? And that's all it is----noise.
I'd rather listen to birds than most obnoxious humans.
Poor piggies :(
I have done very similar with Woodglut designs.

There are no buzzards in city parks. You just like to murder pigeons.
@@MrNonaste I live rural. No laws on the books concerning "murdering" pigeons you blithering idiot!
