Before 1947, this used to be the GT road with only a few vehicles traveling. It was the widest road at that time and also the only asphalt road of Ludhiana. The local traffic used only the part of the road between Field Gunj and Sabzi Mandi. The bulk of the traffic used to be between Railway Station and Ghanta Ghar.
