Thank you! I am American and in my small state (Vermont) we have about 100 Russian students work at a resort each year (before COVID). They always impressed me and I want to visit Russia. I am a bit worried because I was a soldier for 27 years, but man, what a huge country. I want to see St. Petersburg and do the Trans Siberian Railway. Thank you for your kind efforts.
Thank you Elina. My native language is English. I learned Russian from my mother as a child. The next languages I learned were Spanish and Portuguese which both have formal and informal conjugations (tu, usted, voce, o senhor). When I spoke to my mom I was always addressed as Tbi and addressed her and my uncles back as Bbi. When I learned Spanish, it was among friends so I learned the informal first. It was tricky at first because the same conversation would be spoken a different way depending on who you are talking to. But then i remembered the formal and informal in Russian so I had something to reference. I always say that language and culture go hand and hand. You can't understand the culture until you understand the language and you can't understand the language until you learn some of the culture. Saludos desde Texas.
the examples are amazing! I've decided to learn russian, cuz there are many artists and singers from your country, that make great music, so i want to understand what they are saying in interviews ,etc. Also im from a slavic country too-Bulgaria and that makes learning russian easier for me.
I started to learn elementary Russian language during 1 year because a project to Perm, where I received drawings in English/Russian. Hereafter in 1993 I went alone to Moscow for ab.1 week, but it was difficult for me with my poor Russian because english was not so common at that time. OK I visited Bolshoi Theatre, sailed on Moscow River, Museums, Metro, ect. and saw that Russian people had photos outside Mc Donalds in Arbat and western music was obviously new and popular. Since that many visits in Russia and I like the people, culture, food, ect. and I think that nowadays it is very important that people learn each other between countries, which make a more friendly world.
Hi Elina my native language is Arabic. By profession I am a tour guide in Bethlehem места рождения Иисуса. I like learning Russian interesting language.
Informal seems easier. Looks like I'll have to make a lot of friends. I am learning Russian because I want to travel all around Russia and the former USSR countries. I just hope the US and Russia could get along like their people (us) do. We won't have to deal with those pesky visas then! Love the lessons, Elina.
Thank you. Informal is what I'm accustomed to hearing. My great grandmother was Polish and did not speak English. We were not taught. I later in life worked with Russian and Ukrainian's and heard them speak it and seemed to understand some (the Ukrainian not so much) . I learned the basic phrases and out of respect would greet my crew with good morning in Russian I live in Vancouver Washington, and there is a large Russian community here. I am working in a bank and I want to learn Russian to better assist the Russian only speaking community.
I must agree with one of the comments below that if words could be articulated a tad slower, it would be absolutely fantastic. Especially to get the pronunciation right between "o"'s and "a"s for example (noob alert). Really love your videos, though. They make the learning of russian and the russian culture real fun... much more fun than Duolingo :) Spasiba :)
Finally got to start this course after a long delay this year. I did not find one form more difficult than the other but the formal seems wordier. I want to learn Russian to travel through Russia in 9 years.
I want to learn Russian because my family history is from Russia, I visited Moscow and Baikonur, Kazakhstan when I was much younger I feel a connection to the cyrillic alphabet and I want to know more about where my family comes from, thank you for your videos!!
Great refreshing of my poor Russian knowledge from classes in 1968 and 1969. I learned Russian because in the east most people use it as lingua franca. Unfortunately the polish people could speak Russian well but they were unhappy to converse in Russian. They preferred English. Though Russian is a challenge it is attractive to learn the language of Tolstoi, Mendeleiev, Kurchatov and Landau, to name a few of very many outstanding personalities from Russia.
Thanks for your Russian lessons. Ever since COVID-19 lock down was imposed two years ago I started learning Russian through U TUBE. Not continuously but off and on. Today I learned that you are also teaching Russian language which is a pleasant surprise to me. It is really pleasant to have a beautiful girl to listen to. Will look forward to you for more and more Russian lessons. By the way how is the life out there now?
I like the informal but try to focus on the formal because if I use Russian it will most likely be with someone I do not know. I'm studying Russian because it is interesting. I like your language lessons and your travel lessons as well.
I live in Alabama - The time zone is GMT / UTC - 6. I have skyped with some people in Russia before, problem is time zone difference limits when this can be done. Let me know if you are interested - Ok with me.
Priviet, Elina! Thank you for this first Russian lesson! I have a suggestion for improvement: It would be better to show the Russian words longer, so that persons who are not used to the cyrillic script have more time to decode the words without having to stop the video each time. Apart from that, the video is great! I can´t wait to see more of it! Greetings from Vienna, Austria! Paka!
That's so funny I'm learning russian and I keep wanting to say Normal to when I see нормально it goes both ways haha. Awesome video! I love the culture and the people in Russian I can't wait to travel there In the next year.
I apologize, as an American, I was unable to read the words written in Russian because we don't use the Cyrillic Alphabet. It there some way to transliterate the words using the Latin Alphabet as a guide to pronunciation? Spasiba
Hello, Eli. I'm strongly considering signing up for your language course that begins tomorrow. I'm finding it difficult to follow you in this video. 😮 Are your courses easier, or more slower paced than this video? 😊
I decided to learn Russian to help out my Fellow Russian and Ukrainian believers at church and also for work we have many Russian and Ukrainian families seeking assistance.
Hello. Eli..I'm always fascinated with your vlog..how can I reach you? Coz I want to join you with your next adventure..just tell me how much compensation with your companionship and how much I'm gonna spend for a week tour.
Maybe because I no longer have the 2 people I knew to practice with, formal is easier for me to understand. I have Russian language textbooks (forestry).
In answer to your previous question in another video. Why don't Italian guys approach you? Maybe it has something to do with what appears to be an engagement ring on your left hand. Which is also interesting as that is the Western custom not the Russian one.
The video was good but its too fast for the beginner's, if you repeat the meaning or pronounce little slowly it might be helpful a lot for beginner, because beginner wont understand that fastly( just like me😅)
