    After forgetting the the name, i've been searching for this tune for 35 years since I first heard it at the all ireland fleadh cheoil in 1982 played by charlie lennon.

      it was the same for me! a friend said she enjoyed playing "butterfly" and when i said i didn't know what she eas referring to she sent me this link!!! i haven't heard this since my childhood, i missed it so much

    Havent danced in almost 15 years still brings me back to hearing this in the halls non stop and that gratifying feeling of FINALLY making every kick to this song on time. Beautiful ♡

    This melody is beautiful..starts off strong then the butterfly appears..and moves throughout the jig.

    I've only just found your version of this tune Mr Peak Fiddler. You are right about the melody it conjures up a butterfly dancing and flitting between flowers on a lazy. hazy summer day. Funnily enough it also reminds me of my Weather Loach (fish) in my aquarium, when they bounce around on the bottom feeding (A little like Tigger in Winnie The Pooh as well). Thanks for a wonderful version.

    Just perfect. This was also used in the movie Moll Flanders and, like others here, I became mildly obsessed with it and was so happy to find its name. (I can fiddle it, too, but not like you!)

    I first heard this tune in the Irish film _The Secret of Roan Inish_ and your rendition was very nice. A beautiful tune for sure.

      Veritas Vincit tip from someone who dance to this song and many other slip jigs, I count it like 1, 1 2 3, 2, 123, 3, 123 (with a pause where the comma is)

    Long story short I was scrolling through my recommendations and came across this Celtic music mix and this was the first song so I was like “Where the hell do I know this from??”. I was suspecting it was that one song we learnt in school so I searched it up. I was right. Damn, I never would’ve thought I was learning songs from the Celtic times.

    This is one of the songs included in the Elder Scrolls Skyrim mod, "Become A Bard." It's in the Valenwood songbook, and I love it. I usually "play" it when I'm at a tavern.

      I know my bowing technique is well shot and technically all wrong, so I usually issue a warning to parents with small children, in case they think it is cool..

    Thank you for sharing. One of my favorite jigs. My son could be your doppelganger 40yrs apart. It's kind of crazy, it's like watching him play violin in the future.

    The bass makes it way more obvious the timing of this. I play the exact same version every Sunday on mandolin with my fiddler Jim Sales on fiddle up in Prince George Northern BC every week. Great tune and playing.

    I'm working on that song myself. First time I heard it was by Mairead Nesbitt. Hmmm, Mairead Nesbitt, Cora Smith, Jenny O'Connor, and Allison Kraus. It would appear that I'm attracted by good looking fiddle players! Don't let this go to your head, peakfiddler, LOL!

    Not judging your playing because it’s amazing but for an Irish dance slip jig it’s needs to be a little faster.

      Well for dancing I would generally play faster, but this tune just seems to lend itself to being played at a more relaxing pace. Funnily enough I never play this one for dancers, a number of other slip jigs just seem to work better.

      @@rosiedadswell416 If you haven't already heard it, go and check Tommy Potts version of this tune, its quite something, it's on Spotify. Plus, also Kevin Burke plays this tune so well, I think he is on RUclips playing this tune.
