Pile 1 - As a fellow ADHDer, I do wish that people understood that more - it’s not so much an attention deficit disorder, but rather an attention regulation disorder. I feel like the naming does us no favors in that regard. Lol. As well as the inclusion of “hyperactivity” in the name, which is not at all how people with inattentive type present outwardly. I feel like the name reflects the view from the outside, the view of what neurotypical people in our orbit find frustrating about us, as opposed to what it is actually like to live inside it. Also, I wish that people understood that it’s actually about more than just attention allocation, that it also includes significant challenges in areas like emotional regulation and working memory, and other areas of executive function. It’s a very misunderstood disorder. And when you try to get people close to you to understand it a little better, just as a way to understand YOU a little better, they could NOT be less interested. At least in my experience. Which is really fun for the “rejection sensitivity” component! Lol. Anyway. I just wish that people understood it more - that it affects adults, that living with it and managing it is actually is a huge deal, and that it’s about so much more than “….squirrel!” 🤣 I’m sure you’re familiar with the RUclips channel “How to ADHD,” but if you’re not, I highly recommend checking it out! She was the "trouble child" to my mom but highly regarded by my mom's side of the family and I was the "golden child" to my mom but the outcast of my mom's side of the family. I recognize the ways in which these roles were placed upon us through no fault of our own and how they were dysfunctional, but I've always felt like my sister held on to feelings of resentment towards me because of the appearance of love I received from our mom.

Pile 1 - As a fellow ADHDer, I do wish that people understood that more - it’s not so much an attention deficit disorder, but rather an attention regulation disorder. I feel like the naming does us no favors in that regard. Lol. As well as the inclusion of “hyperactivity” in the name, which is not at all how people with inattentive type present outwardly. I feel like the name reflects the view from the outside, the view of what neurotypical people in our orbit find frustrating about us, as opposed to what it is actually like to live inside it.
Also, I wish that people understood that it’s actually about more than just attention allocation, that it also includes significant challenges in areas like emotional regulation and working memory, and other areas of executive function.
It’s a very misunderstood disorder. And when you try to get people close to you to understand it a little better, just as a way to understand YOU a little better, they could NOT be less interested. At least in my experience. Which is really fun for the “rejection sensitivity” component! Lol.
Anyway. I just wish that people understood it more - that it affects adults, that living with it and managing it is actually is a huge deal, and that it’s about so much more than “….squirrel!” 🤣
