This video was exceptional! Solid run through of the pros and cons, but even better, the format kept me super engaged and interested in what info was coming next. Can't wait to see more!
Good pros and cons! Pretty much totally agree, although I’m glad my bed doesn’t leak. My old shell leaked like crazy and stoked the Ovrlnd doesn’t. The low profile flexibility and lightweight is what sold it for me!
Thanks brotha! Got one more vid to film and then hopefully we can get out for some fishing 🤙 Also, I definitely stole some inspo from your rig tour video. So many good points in there.
I had a 2023 four-wheel camper, hawk fully loaded and sold it in 6 months. Had some bad storms roll in in the middle of the night, and I couldn't even get the pop top down in one of them. And the noise from outside is unbearable. Im getting ready to purchase either the Alaskan truck camper or small hard sided camper.
Man, that sounds brutal. Must have been some really insane wind speeds. Luckily I haven’t experienced anything like that. Some heavy rain and moderate wind but nothing that crazy. Good call on the Alaskan though. Love those campers
@@HeyJonMoore the interior is very clean looking, and they use top of the line products. The outside is kinda boxy but we'll add our own flare over time.
Great video Jon! I’ve got an install scheduled for my ovrlnd in a few weeks. I also have a gen 3 Tacoma. That leak issue got me worried. I’ll have to reach out to them and see if there’s anything I can do beforehand to make sure it’s sealed. My wife and I are swapping our 13ft fiberglass trailer for the ovrlnd. -A big pro of the truck camper for us is being able to do quick weekend trips without having to pull the trailer behind. Even though it’s a small trailer it still adds to stress levels and bad fuel economy on the highway. -Another pro is being able to turn around. I can’t tell you how many times with the trailer we couldn’t check out a dirt road for fear of there not being adequate space to turn around. -the one con of the truck camper vs a trailer is you can leave your campsite fully setup with a trailer and go explore with your unloaded vehicle. That’s the only con I can think of other than the ones you mentioned. Again great video and look forward to more! Thanks
Thanks Matt! Yes, just make sure it's sealed up before you install the camper. I'm sure OVRLND has the fix for this now. Thanks for all the notes too! And you're totally right about not being able to leave it at the site. That is clutch in some situations. Appreciate you man.
Man I have the Alu-Cab and now I really wish I went with the OVRLND Campers. Just having the extra space just makes it so much more roomy on the inside. Oh having a side awning or a 290 awning make the outside spot like into another room that is nice. Oh for that 3rd gen taco bed holes sikaflex fill them up. Great video!
Man, it's never too late. I'm sure you could flip that Alu-Cab in a heartbeat if you wanted to. But the 290 awning sounds like an even better and less expensive proposition. And thank you for that recco! I'm stoked to get that patched up
Greetings from Pontassieve in the province of Florence I have a fantastic Suzuki Jimmy 4x4 1.3 LT van with a 2001 m13a petrol engine that I use on mountain and forest roads and on gravel and scree dirt roads and I also use it to transport agricultural loads and for me the Suzuki Jimmy 4x4 remains the best 4x4 thanks to its smaller size compared to large 4x4 off-road vehicles and then it remains the best 4x4 vehicle because I live in the countryside and work in the agricultural sector
Awesome video! I full time in one of the “Hiatus” campers on a 1st gen Tacoma. Another pro (if you do happen to have 4wd): is being light and nimble enough to enjoy some jeep trails and get a little flexy! For my lady and I we hunt out these trails and MTB trails. With and OVRLND (or a Hiatus) your camper doesn’t have to be JUST a camper, it can also double as an off road toy (if that is at all your thing). Maybe this is just a case for being more “nimble” than other sorts of campers.
I plugged those gaps in the bed with some type of putty recommended by guys at ace hardware. Sprayed some liquid rubber up in there to finish it off. No leaks after that
I should’ve done the same thing before installing the camper. Luckily the guys at OVRLND are going to help me out next week. I appreciate the comment though!
booyakashaw. Great video! solid info and some good bits of info for anyone to consider who might be in the market. Oh, and those e-bikes are expensive! My buddy paid more, but his was made out of compacted feces from the space shuttle, so it was probably worth it 😆
Really enjoy your videos man. I’m still working on my build but definitely liking my Ovrlnd. What bug screen do you have? Link? Keep up the great content!!
Hey brotha, thank you! I really appreciate that. My bug screen was a custom job done by a friend who’s a professional upholsterer. He asked that I not pass out his info. I do plan on making a video about it though just to show how it's designed.
Could you maybe elaborate more on your leak problem? I’m in the process of getting a 3rd gen 6ft bed and the OVRLND lol. I never knew there was a leaking problem. I’d be curious to see what solutions I could come up with prior to putting it on.
You hit the nail on the head. It's only a problem if you don't adequately seal it up before the install. One of the other comments mentioned Skillaflex. Might look into that. Although I'm sure that the folks at OVRLND have a fix for it by this point.
I'm about to to have a pop-top camper installed and so have been looking into this. I found Super Pacific's video on How to Seal your Tacoma's Bedrails helpful.
Jerry is a pain in the ars! lol- thanks for a thorough pros and cons list to consider when looking into all the various camper options. I think the chuck box makes for a great kitchen setup without all the extra weight. I have a 2021 Tacoma and am looking at similar options, so this vid was quite helpful. Thanks for the laughs! ❤
The gap in the tacoma is just completely stupid. It makes no sense why it was designed that way. It's as if it was designed only to frustrate the owner. I see no other function it could serve.
Just installed a 'LonePeak' Overland Camper. I'm stoked about it.
Nice man! I’ve heard good things about them 🤙 stoked for you

Thank you! I appreciate the support
So down with this!
Haha thanks brotha! Should be rolling back through your neck of the woods soon! I'll call ya

Right on right on! I do love this thing

Good points. I might eventually get one of these for my access cab taco. Right now I’m just campin in a leer shell
100% can recommend 🤙 thanks for the comment
We had a Scout Yoho, then a nucamp 400, but now we are going back to truck camper with a Outpost 6.5.
Those look super cool. I just checked them out. What is it about the outpost you prefer over the other ones?

Jon, so happy to see you pop up on my feed. Can't wait to see more and join you out there. 2 years and I'll be exploring the rivers.

Mmm totally fair. I do have the unique perspective of designing my rig as a solo traveller.

Sorry and just to clarify it's in the two front corners near the cab. A weird raises section and two 1/4 inch gaps. Can't miss them
