Lyrics:
Good man, I'm a good man, food's on the table, working two jobs,
Ready willing and able check your name
I'm having fun, got no kids and I love the Lord, check your name
I'm a... never did time but maybe just once, check your name
And I puts it down, wanna see it twice, brother puts it down, check
How could you ever walk away, after all I've done for you
I feel like there's a knife in my back, babe
You might as well pull it all the way through Видеоклипы
This deserved more airplay. A masterpiece.
Especially the VIDEO!
I agree 100%
When people think Ralphel Saadiq is a new artist but he's been here longer than our existence. mmmmhmm😒
Tonitonitone
😂😂😂😅same me in Gabon i know him since longtime
He's a living Legend! 🎶🎶❤❤❤❤
He's a fucking mastermind
Legend of a Reverse Cowgirl 😂😂😂🙌🏿
This has that 70s flow. This could have been apart of Dead Presidents soundtrack would have fit perfectly
Has a Curtis Mayfield vibe😎
True

I was about to say the same thing. I had put this song with the Dead Presidents pic on my story.
He was around during that time, so thats probably why.
This is quite possibly one of the best music videos ever made.
Ashanti's Rain on me also
Why do you think so?
"Because everybody wants to be the king."
- Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes.
tragic antagonist. I love Black Maria, but Cottonmouth was fun to watch
One of the best antagonist of MCU, respect the King
This song is masterfully composed , as is the man who sings it.
William Wilson agreed

Why
i dont get the video help me understand it
Well said sir!🙏🏾
Bout time somebody makes a song for good men . Lord I can relate so much to this song.
Amen to that brotha
Exactly, we're all ascribed as the villain. Us good men needed this relief, perfect timing too.
We good black women love and respect you for being a great man and don't stop being a good man.
Amen fam✊🏿
Really doe 💯
This is such a powerful video. I have to say I disagree with other assessments here in the comments. I think that he tracked her down and gave her money not out of spite or any other negative emotion. The entire point of the song is about a man who takes his responsibilities to his family seriously. Dude walked up and gave her that money because he made a promise to take care of her, and despite who and what she turned out to be, she is still his obligation. She may not have taken her vows seriously, but he did. That act of selflessness made her fully realize the man she had, and what she had done to him. This is something that resonates with me very much right now.
Brian Rewis I don’t know who could have a differing option but... 💯
Nailed It!
Smh its mess up how some women do this and think they going to have a good or bless life...
It took this moment this comment for me to fully understand what the song and video really meant
right on
Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes the villain I can't never hate he has such good taste in music...
Korra Martell & a Fender Rhodes mk. II in his office.
His style is also very nice
I may have to watch the show now. Check out suits too.
He wanted to be an artist not a criminal.
#100
According to Raphael, the song "depicts the situation where everything around the man might be bad, his job, friends, lifestyle but underneath it all, he is a good man." The music sets the tone for the video that brings the lyrics to life as a very dark and a bit twisted story. It presents the story of a woman who takes a good man for granted. The reason is unclear but we witness her carrying out several actions to make him appear bad, sabotaging the relationship.
Regardless of what she puts him through, he doesn't allow her actions to stop him from being a good man and continues to do what he knows is the right thing to do. . . take care of his responsibility which is her. This is summed up at the end of the video when he gives her money that he worked so hard to earn.
This song is universal can represent anyone who continues to put 100% in a relationship even though what he/she gets in return is disrespect, abuse, and/or neglect. Have you ever been in a relationship where no matter how hard you tried, how much you invested in it, it was never enough? You're left feeling like you've been set up because you can't possibly understand how you could be treated so badly when all you've ever done was try to be a good man/woman.
Last part makes the person sound more like a fool.
that comment was way too real
Very relatable. Never wrong to be a good man. Don't ever lose track of your morals
Very good observations with one caveat; one doesn't have to be a simp to be a good man. If we can't work together to resolve our issues then I have no problem saying goodbye.
Word.
We miss real soul music, please come back!
"Let the horns blow" at 3:19 gets me every time, one of the best musical sequences of all time
That part! Without youuuuu I never felt so good inside!!! Yo I bumped into this bout 10yrs ago an fell in love with the song
Yes, this song layered very well. Such a brilliant composition.
That part gives me goosebumps everytime !!!!
Me to I always turn it up on the horns 💕
Es perfecta esa partitura
I can't believe so many people are just hearing this song. Raphael Saadiq is so underrated. This is a classic and the video is award worthy.
Exactly!
Yep
blkazn77 the radio stations are trash.
Tony Toni Toné is or was underrated...
Yes... So underrated
I'm surprised of how many people slept on Raphael Saadiq, but thankful for these comments since yall convinced me to get back on Netflix just to check Luke Cage out. 👍
You are doing yourself a favor. It is top notch.
get on it
stone rollin was epic!
It definitely is!
Instant Vintage is a slept on album too. Tony Toni Tone is a slept on group.
This song is SO refreshing to hear it from the Male perspective. There are TONS of "Do-Me-Wrong" songs for us ladies, I just really enjoyed hearing and seeing things from a "Good Man's" POV.... Definitely one of my favorites indeed!
For real though
Especially when you've gone through something like this. His actions at the end of the video. Along with the lyrics towards the end. Really hit home & show how much bigger/better of a person he's become.
@@bilalpickid8436 absolutely 💯
She realized how stupid she had been sleeping with other men, lying about abuse and realizing that she really had a good man! That was the reason why she cried it touched her heart!
Who still listening 2020 .. Power brought me here.
Me too power is the sugar honey ice tea on the songs
Luke cage brought me here
Always and forever
Luke Cage
May 2021 💖💖
I heard this song for the first time on the first episode of the Marvel series, "Luke Cage". This song is everything.
The next song in that scene "Angel" from Raphael Saadiq is even better (ofc only in my opinion ). You arealy should check that one out, too!
This one song helped me thru some serious situations.
Let me help you now, I like the song but helping someone who obviously hates you is dumb. Listen to the lyrics of "am i a good man" by them two is the group.
Hit me back and tell me how you feel.
@@1topgorgon hey bro that songs AMAZING THANK YOU
"Let the horns blow" 🔥🔥🔥he snapped with this
What gets me is the sheer number of people who blindly don't get the video and lyrics...clearly it's hand-in-hand. I'm a good man, I did whatever I could to provide for you. Yea I made hard sacrifices along the way that tarnished the love we once had, which you turned ya back on me...but I wanted to show you I still fight for our love to get better. If it don't work then, take this money I saved for us and remember that your next will never be a man like me...you'll regret that you didn't stick it out with a good man....
Perfectly said
Agreed!
wow. never thought of it like that. just figured he was a sucker ass nigga crying for box, even after he got played n betrayed foul. love this tho.
A good man will always do what he said he would, it might take a while be he's a man of his word. That gesture seeing that he came through with what was promised after considering what she put him through will scar her for life in the end.
+Jay Sump Maybe if so many people aren't getting it then the artist did not clearly convey the message.
Just a thought.
I heard this in Luke Cage Ep 1 and I fell inlove with the words and voice - I had to save it on my playlist. This artist and beautiful soulful voices like his need recognition!
Same here lol
+1 lol
Me too, and I'm more or less a full blown metalhead. Love the voice.
he's been recognized for the last 30 years lol. He's a legend look up the group Tony Toni Tone
same here but when I heard it on a end of a note of one trailers I didn't know the song I ownly looked it up after I finished the show and same here as you said
I can't even count how many times I've came back to this song/video......I still listen to it with tears in my eyes come round the end of it.
Me too bruh no doubt
Even A GOOD MAN Has To Know When To Walk Away!!
Yes he does! 🦋
the tone of his voice is just gold man😭
"But when things got rough, you quickly ran to trade me, somebody save me" Damn I felt that!
Good men are the last of a dying breed...
Tiggy-Tay Unlimited I know and I'm so alone😶
More like the first to die and not breed 😂😂
We're tired of it all, and sadly we still are good men
Salute to all the good men. Know that there are positive women like myself who appreciate you to the max! Don't let anyone change you. Be You!💯👏🏾☺️

Yaya’s performance though....😫 she is pure talent and beauty

"Abri meu coração, fechei minha armadura, a meta é amadurecer sem perder a ternura."
Can't get this song out of my head, ever since Luke Cage

bruh I looked at the lyrics it basically describes luke cage how his life is in the Netflix series now that's smart music choice by the directors
true i thought that too
Luke Cage aired 2 days ago, dude.
Who else was here in 2011 BEFORE Raphael Saadiq's performance on Luke Cage?

Had to pause Luke Cage and check out who this was. Brilliant.
So many black men is a man,but odds against them. This why it's important to have a good black women side him to help keep him motived.
The music video for this....wow. That was beautiful. She doesn't deserve it, but that man's kindness warmed my heart.
I loved TonyToneToni now called Raphael Saadiq. Great singer. Luke Cage was lucky to get him.
Correction: Tony Toni Tone! is a group/band. Saadiq was their lead singer.
Luke Cage did not send you guys here. He doesn't own a club.... Cottonmouth does.
on lukes show.
Lorenz Mora In Cottonmouth's club.

That is in lukes show.
Lorenz Mora
That's in Cottonmouth's club.
The acting in this never gets old.
This cat is untouchable...... Very very few ppl can even look at dude musically today
From australia and don't listen to radio to much. Netflix helped with a branch on international musical genius.
this song and video is really also a social commentary on the economic situation of the black family and the pathology it creates, hence crime, self abuse, selling ones soul, etc. this speaks to a bigger problem in america. look deeper.
rite
+HeleseTALKS its sad that you think you are stating something profound.
God died a while ago
Love this song especially that ending gives me goosies
This jam is DEEP! It is easily reversible Good WOMAN w/a BAD MAN!
Chadwick Coleman needs more roles, damn. Glad he got paid for The Walking Dead, but he's so underutilized. Loved him in The Wire..
Woke up , walked past my mirror and started singing lmao 'I'm a good man!' Added a little shmurdha dance 😂
Still love this song.

Luke Cage has introduced me to some good music, but this right here speaks to my soul.
sweet christmas!! This song for me setup the mood for Luke Cage. cottonmouth is one of the greatest anatagonists of MCU. soo layered, soo complex. Mahrashela Ali nailed it. can i get an amen for his sartorial choices and that laugh!!
Amen! He nailed it.
His character Remy Danton in House of Cards is also excellent.
This song str8up should have been the intro tho
I loved cottonmouth but i hated diamond back, he just didnt do it for me
the laugh is amazing.
Raphael Saadiq been putting it down since the late 80's early 90's reppin Oakland CA for years! Y'all just play ketchup with out mustard, the dude with the beard on the video played on the Wire HBO series...

❤️😂🙋🏼♀️😊
This made me giggle.
Raphael Saadiq's score for this movie was on point. 😌🎵
Man this song just straight up ENHANCED that club scene in Luke Cage. Made it intensely smooth
If you understand the lyrics it gets easier. Well, he IS a good man, never did anything wrong, is a normal, ordinary man, with two jobs. She doesn't like it, she wants somebody wealthy. He feels something is wrong, hence "the knife on my back" (or sleeping). She then decides to end it, putting him in jail. She smashes her face on the sink to simulate domestic violence.
She starts the gold digging and seduces a man, having sex with him in order to live a good life (a white man, being a black couple, is symbolic here). He gets out of prison, borrow some money and goes to her, to state that he knows what is the goal of her life and why she incriminated him. And also that he CAN make money. Initially she runs away embarrassed, but seeing the money makes her cry with remorse and guilt.
Sorry about the english, I'm brazilian.
perfect dude

The difference between a good man and a nice guy is a nice guy has an agenda, but a good man lives by a code. A nice guy gets mad when he realized he got played, but a good man only gets mad when he realize he is not appreciated.
Right now im better better then ever without yooooooou man i felt that

"Game done changed."
No one has ever done that type of song better than Raphael Saadiq and this is still going on strong in 2022. One of my favorite songs of all time. Euphemia Riley
That song was on his solo joint entitled " Stone Rollin'. A great song. Saadiq is mad talented. "Instant Vintage ," " The way I see it", and "Pookie" were good as well. Great producer and musician. He doesn't get half the credit he deserves.
Completely forgot about this song until "Luke Cage" Raphael is a boss for those who didn't know
