His solo career has been very underrated Only true fans will truly understand his music. This Brother has range.
💯
I spent 28 years in the United States Air Force living all over the world while serving this country. I retired officially 2011. The same year my estranged baby brother called me to them he had terminal cancer and he place to live go before his final journey home. He made this comment standing at my front door with his bags in the car after driving from South Carolina to Huntsville Alabama. I was raised family over everything but God so I told him he could stay with me after talking with my wife. I watched God give me a year to spend with him as slowly destroyed his body until there was no more. He died 2012 about one week after my birthday. I was just returning from more than 12 plus years of war as fought on several fronts in the War on Terrorism. The loss of my brother was so painful because I finally felt since I was back home we had years to make up for the time lost. I was reminded of Stevie's song "These Three Words!" Life can come at you so hard sometimes until it takes away your equilibrium! Never ever forget to tell those you love that you love them despite whatever is ongoing!
I COULD IN SAME BUT DIDN'T WAYS BEING GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING AND JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW YOU AIN'T NEVER ALONE BROTHER
Wow!
That hook at the end... my goodness... give this man his Grammy right now!!
Yes and they NEED to do it ASAP!!!

I love that no one sounds like him. He has a unique recognizable voice
peanut smasher agreed! Same reason I love Stokely from MintCondition as well. I believe they sound a lot alike
Aiysha Harris they do
Stokely sounds a lot like him .. or vice versa.. but thats about it

Adrianna Thomas well said. It goes they my souls truly. What he sings about is his brothers Doug addiction

Yes it is, so much truth in this song.
TheDucciano it means that's how I feel about it sweetie
TheDucciano feel how u want. How do take issue with other peoples' perspective/ interpretation of a song? Lol hilarious. The young lady named adriana Thomas made the statement. She is entitled to how she feels. Be a mor a positive person
This is a real Masterpiece from Raphael

He still doing it and I hope we got another 30+ years out of him. His music is a gift.
I can't wait for this album to drop. It's talking about substance abuse and I think we as a society need this type of music now more than ever. Especially with all the drug abuse going on.
addiction in general...he mentioned gambling addiction as well
I didn’t hear that. I love it super dope
I think it was dedicated to his brother who died due to a overdose.
Love this song. Reminds me of my brother who was addicted to dog racing.

How? You must don’t know that this song is about DRUG ADDICTION and GAMBLING ADDICTION. Its not about LOVE 🤷♂️ So how could it be about BBQ. He explained this in an interview.
@@1handsmoke565 You can get the message and still enjoy the song. It may have a serious message but it's still an upbeat song.

I NEVER stated that you couldn’t ENJOY the SONG. I was referring this to BBQ MUSIC 🤷♂️

Miss Foxx good one..lmao. I think he’s over that though..but 😆
I wish too but it will probaby never happen because Dawn is too fickle.

Hear that "Kissing You" influence by Total he produced. Dope.
My mind is blown right now! Had no idea he produced that. And I do hear it at the breakdown. Love it.
Yes especially toward the end.

Never been so hype for an album. Solange is cool..sweet. So are other artists he produces for. But there is NOTHING like the genius of a real Raphael Saadiq album!!!! Flew here from ig the second i heard it!💥💥💥 The guitar is crazy fire. So hope he brings tour to Philly. He's the whole album buy kinda artists. We can eat for years off his art.
Alfia Bramwell Totally Agree
Bruh y’all don’t understand how great this song is like seriously, 2019 really needed this song. Everyone who’s ever loved anyone needed this song. Welcome back raph!
Reminds me of the Isley's Foot Steps in the dark, and El Debarge in the abstract sense.

We gonna have to share this song sis. 😊

Something keeps calling me
I feel the burdens on me
Something keeps calling me
This is so heavy for me
You might say I can never love again
Well you might be right, at least tonight
My friends say I can never pull it together
Well they might be right, at least tonight
My kids say I'll never come home again
And I know they're right, at least tonight
If I fail, my whole life goes to hell
And it don't seem right, I need help tonight
Something keeps calling me
I feel the burdens on me
Something keeps calling me
This is so heavy for me
My wife says I'll never have money again
And she might be right, I lost tonight
My heart says I can get it all again
And I hope I'm right, but not tonight
The priest said, "You're gonna lose family"
And he might be right, at least tonight
My mind says, "You should give it up today"
Sounds awesome, right? But not tonight
Something keeps calling me
I feel the burdens on me
Something keeps calling me
This is so heavy for me
Something keeps calling me
I feel the burdens on me
Something keeps calling me
This is so heavy for me
This is forever
(This is so heavy on me)
I'm never, ever turning back
(This is so heavy on me)
I'm never
(This is so heavy on me)
So heavy on me
I'm never
Omg thank u so much!!!!
I started writing the lyrics down. Thank you so much!!!
This song is a classic
Thank you for the words. Can't stop singing this.
Love and Peace to all that have overcome addiction.
To all that are still struggling, don't quit trying. You can do it. You have it in you. Love stands with you.✨
Nice riding in the car tune. . . especially, on a warm and breezy summer night. 🖤 💎
Totally
Yes I concur!! Just keep going
When you can't say a word, you just bop your head, pat your foot and wave your hand......REAL MUSIC LIVES!!!
My God, the BEAT just POUNCES, and that guitar moves something within your soul, and then here he comes with the WORDS; words that are not easy, fun, nor pleasant but Real LIFE & brutal. I have so much respect for Raphael because he has never been anything other than himself and he has never put any music out here which does not represent who he is & what he feels as a Black male, as a human being, an individual; he's stayed true since the very beginning whether singing with others or solo. And he's stayed Real & POSITIVE, never DEGRADING, clownish, nor compromising . This song, the entire CD, is so intimate & vulnerable; as someone with a family history of addictions with both my mom & late dad being addicts, and also seeing friends, family, neighbors, in the hood, on my block, literally OD'ing, I got mad props for Mr. Saadiq. He is still SO VERY UNDERRATED but those of us who have been constant, loyal & true fans following him on his journey thru the decades have always realized how remarkably gifted this TRUE ARTIST really is and always will be. Much Luv from Baltimore!
Love this song keeping r&b alive
Right timing. Right place. Right mood. Right message. Right music! 🙏 love light and continued harmony to Raphael Saadiq for making great music!

This is deep. I don't have a Jones but I got an addiction to my art, my craft and this is so relatable. Substitute any vice or desire or dream in there and the lyrics hit home. Damn... Great music transcends man, it just transcends...
