Visiting an Indian vegetable market for the first time - learning Indian food culture

- During my mom's first days in India, I wanted to show her all that I could about life in India. Coming from Finland, we are used to a very different type of grocery shopping experience so I thought it would be interesting for my mom to see what a vegetable market looks like in India. A sabzi mandi or bazaar can be an overwhelming experience for a foreigner in India, especially in a city like Jaipur. Later we took her to a farm to see vegetable gardens and animals. She was quite impressed, not just by the market but by the Indian food we had at home later in the day :)

I am so happy that your mother doesn't judge, give unnecessary opinions and has a very positive impact on everyone around her. Her demeanor is outstanding and very likeable. Annika has wonderful grandmothers and joyful grandfather. Beautiful family around Annika. What a bond little Annika is.
My mom was a special education teacher before retiring so i think work like that has taught also her a lot, like that non-judgmental attitude and trying to understand different people 😊
@@JohannaNorth ,you are also ur mini mom
Johanna is the best narrator. I like her vlogs best.
@@JohannaNorth lovely!
Ok 🙃...b innocent ..
Watching these vlogs is like watching mini documentaries, with heartfelt and well thought out narration. Not chaotic like most vlogs. I really appreciate how your mom is open to the new experiences of India...experiences which are real and not just the typical touristy things media often shows esp when you think of Rajasthan. Her respect towards all has earned her our respect 🙏
Thanks a lot, I’m so happy to hear you’re enjoying the videos! I’d love to make more of the mini documentary style videos in the future 😊
Well said l agree 👍
I love Johanna’s mother ! She is so calm and peaceful
I'd like to point a mistake.
India has more food than western world.
That explains the low price of food compared to western countries.
That is the reason why India is so populated since ancient times.
People settled in India back in ancient days due to easy availability of Food.
Correctly pointed out. There is no land more fertile than this sub-continent. The variety and abundance of vegetables and food crops is unmatched anywhere in this world.
Her ignorance in declaring India as 'food scarce' nation is foolish to say the least.
India has one of the highest malnutrition rates in the world. It doesn't matter if the country grows a lot of food if there are still millions of people without access to adequate nutrition. Please try looking outside your middle class bubble at how the poor in India actually live.
Then why are indians flocking to usa and Europe leaving their country ? Canadian government is having hard time because of huge number of applications coming from india for visa and PR 🤣🤣🤣
And want to add, if India had not been rich, it would not have been looted, attacked and ruled by traitors; albeit Indian hospitality cost a lot by welcoming these ungrateful British , Portuguese, Dutch snd rest all.
But as the saying goes, never argue with an idiot and ignorant
@@bendover-bz4bc you are another ignorant comparing two different topics and issues.
Your mother is such a trooper. I hope she’s able to come back to see other beautiful places in India. Your an excellent tour guide as well❤
Hopefully she’ll be able to visit us also next year 🥰
@@JohannaNorth How about your sister? October to January would be ideal months for them
@@JohannaNorth what abt kerala. Pls show her kerala too. I am sure she will love.
Annika has grown into a delightful little girl. I like your attitude and your mother's attitude, each country has its own customs and traditions.
Enjoyed this video too!! Love how your mother is really immersing herself in Indian culture and is so open to all these new experiences. Annika is an absolute darling!! Kudos to you and Vinod for giving Annika the freedom to discover the world around her and interact with people and animals. 😘🤗
I think it’s essential for babies and even grownups to experience things and use all their senses like touch to learn confidence and independence 😊🙏
Annika so cute and she is really an angel for whole family👪👪👪
Just goes to show despite cultural, religious and language differences Grandparents are the same all over the World! Sharing food with Family is such a simple joy. Thankyou for sharing 😊
Fundamentally we are all the same, we love our family and friends and homes and just want to have a good life 🥰
It's not always about the places and Nature , it is the people Who make everything beautiful !!!!
Appreciated and love to see how you all letting Annika to experience a lot...
Lovely to see you all living life and enjoying the company of one another. Loved how Annika was helping her grandparents choose the vegetables, so sweet. Your mother is so open to all the indian traditions and appreciating the freshly home cooked indian food. I'm sure she will always cherish these days she has enjoyed with you all in India. Best wishes to you all.❤🌷
Vinod’s mom is such a great cook that it’d be impossible not to try anything she cooks without hesitation 😋❤️
‘Nick nack’ table had so many dish cleaning items, I had to laugh. With the great food comes a great amount of dishes. 😂 you have a beautiful family!
I NEVER have as much dishes in Finland as i do in India 😅
Thanks Johanna. Good to see your Mom adjusting to life there, & being with Vinod's Mom & Dad. Annika is getting so big now which is apparent when being carried . She enjoys being everywhere you take her & her growing freedom of foot so to speak. Nice acoustic guitar background music. I think of you often when I have my morning coffee.(love the Indonesian beans). Sending love to you all. ❤
It’s no nice to see her enjoying the world and new experiences as much as we do! 🥰 we are just driving back home from Goa, where we were able to get her swimming again after a year of hating water 😄❤️
@@JohannaNorth Can't wait to see some of Annika's time in the water. I'm right there with you guys with each new adventure J.
It is good to see hovv johanna 's mother is adapting to indian vvays. And it is a great to see hovv people from different culture are mixing together.😊
Love the nani's quiet and deep appreciation of life.♥️🙏
There is nothing better than fresh food from a market or a farm. The quality of the food is amazing. Food is so important in my culture as well. It really does bring families closer together. How lucky is Annika to have such incredible grandparents who can come together to enjoy each other, learn about each other and to become one big family. Annika is the light in everyone's eyes. I enjoyed this video so much. There is nothing more important than family. Big hugs and kisses to everyone.💝💝💙💙💋💋
So much love in this video.. Annika is blessed to have such loving grandparents
It’s so much fun to watch your videos. Your Mom is so sweet enjoying all Indian dishes even Karela! Your mom in law is a graceful lady.
I was nervous if she’d enjoy the karela all! Now my only mission is to teach Annika to love it as much as the rest of the family 😋🥰
Its so nice to see your mom’s curiosity to learn and absorb every new experience of sight, smell and taste ♥️♥️ we want her to return with her daughter’s love of Indian life and her family .. spread the love .. next will be your sister’s visit to India

Annika is so adorable. I really appreciate how you allow Annika to experience Indian life in full: not being overly cautious and letting her touch things she is interested in. The calf-petting session was cute. Really beautiful experience caught on video. Thanks for sharing. Jai Ho! 🙏🕉
Be it India or Finland, i think it’s essential for babies and even grownups to experience things and use all their senses like touch to learn 😊🙏
@@JohannaNorth Exactly! It is heartwarming to know you take the traditional, time-tested approach to life. Wishing you and your family the very best life has to offer. Pranams. 🙏

What a wonderful narration presented here about indian culture
Your mom is such a sweet lady and both your moms are great grandmas to Annika
*Finnish Granny also have a kid in herself, she was like "Alice in Wonderland" in the vegetables market. Your narration with clear thought process in the Vlog is learning episode for not only non Indians but many Deshis too. ❤ , luck & happiness to you (as a whole family) always !*
The father in law never ceases to impress me and every time.
SUCH A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY GODBLESS YOU LOTS OF LOVE INDIA 🙏🏻🤲🏼🤲🏼❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙌🏼
Mom so cool
Feels like david attenborough commenting on an animal habitait XD. Love the style of the narration!
I love Annika very very much .God bless her and the whole family always .
Anika's unique smile with big cute eyes ❤️
So true...our lives revolve around food and family and Chai time is not so much about the Chai but about unwinding, sharing and bonding with our loved ones. Love how you made something as mundane as vegetable shopping look exotic and exciting 😊 farm to table is such a wonderful thing for the farmers and for the consumers. Something that is a luxury for city folks. Dada siting on the table showing your mom the family pictures was just adorable. So glad your mom is enjoying Indian food....dadi's cooking looks delicious and always makes me so hungry😋.
I actually specifically wrote in the original voiceover that indian chai or meal time is the perfect moment to relax together and to chat, bond and share! 🥰
@@JohannaNorth 😊💕

Oh what a wonderful vlog Johanna. Karala is definitely a favourite vegetabel of mine. I have been in India for nearly 3 years now and I'm still really excited and fascinated about the food culture. Re all the AMAZING things you mentioned re the seasonal eating, the FASCINATING veg markets, the growth of the local food, the sustainability, the cooking culture and the family culture.
Om shanti shanti om

Probably nothing makes me more excited than a great delicious indian meal, and a new dish at that! 😋 love going to restaurants or even friends’ houses and tasting something new, trying to figure out the masala and then trying to recreate it at home 🤩
@@JohannaNorth oh yep.... There really is something v interesting and magical about the food culture here. Put it this way.... A person can never get bored of India. I often wanna leave india so i can vlog in different countries but i guess i will always think about india and wanna come back lol 😀❤️😀

I ❤ Vinod Mom & Dad & I ❤ Ur Mother dear Johanna...
Why does your videos ever end ?! To me, it's something like entering a new reality and sharing my moments with you, especially Annika and now, I'm also liking her frocks very much along with her specially cutest expressions and Annika is the world's busiest baby, I guess. Your narration is excellent. I also feel more enlightened about my country and her differences from the western world in detail ... Annika's drawing and gift episode is just great. Painter Annika is in love with her painting so much that she doesn't even want to gift it. That's the sweetest twist in the story. Love. 😘😍🥰🌈💜💙💚💛🧡❤️😇🙏🙋
Your video creates a positive vibe & very genuine. 💜
I love your narration ❤️❤️🙏🙏 God bless this family 🥰🥰👏👏
Awww little Anikka you bring me joy hearing your laughter
❤ thank you for giving everyone the gift of seeing her
I can’t wait to give birth with my girl in December 13-28
I will be living in nature and making sure she understand the beauty in the world
There was a time when mothers first bought what ever "good"( quality wise, price wise and freshnesswise from local farmers market which works usually in the mornings) then decide which dish could be done after considering the likes , dislikes ,diet restrictions of elders, suitability for kids.
But today life style changed .First decide menu and search for ingredients. If receipe is not known go for what recipe one knows.
India wastes very less vegetables and prepared food.Even markets have different grades of same vegetables or lentils or spices so one gets what exactly one wants.
I got ur vlog after long time, the last vlog i seen when cute Anika born, today suddenly I got ur vlog so happy to see that Anika is walking know lots of love for Anika frm Bihar ❤️❤️❤️❤️
"Lack of food in India & overabundance of food & selection in West". I think this statement needs to be put in context.
India has climate suitable to do all sorts of agri unlike West.
Its only the subsistence farming & poor market linkages across country that give an impression of less.
I fully agree. The condescending attitude is typical.
Yes. I got bit shocked when this statement was made. There is no scarcity as such n we have much better variety in vegetables compared to the WEST.
True. Countries like Canada are importing fresh vegetables and fruits for most of the year due to their local climate being harshly cold for many months. Also, we should all be eating seasonally and locally...and vegetarian... as these are the most environment friendly options. The west isn't as smart as they think. They are starting to appreciate the wise, ancient Indian culture...Ayurveda, meditation, yoga etc. It is too sad to see Indians running after the western way of life.
Enjoyed watching the vlog, shopping vegetables, visiting a farm, simple pleasures brought out well. Thanks for the same. 😍
That is how it should be... eat locally & according to the seasons...
INDIA is very unique with in couple of minutes one can have feelings being in the one of the best city of THE WORLD, and almost in a remote part of AFRICA OR SOUTH AMERICA WITH NO TIME. STARTING FROM FIGHTER JETS ,TO CAMEL CARTS ONE MAY SIMULTANEOUSLY.
A very blessed and happy family ❤️. Good things, good experiences and good wishes are always with good, kind and humble people. It's a blessing for everyone in your family Johanna. May such get together and unity be with you all throughout. Stay blessed 💕😘 always.
This made me very happy.....everyone is lovely 😍
I feel the need to eat every time I watch your videos! ...Chips, hummus and fruit! :D
Hummus??
Wow Anika amazing my pretty cute darling love you too much you are in my heart.....God bless you and your family. Too much love from Balangir, Odisha (India).....😃💖💕💫👍👌❤️🙏
Johana, taste of indian vegetables is far better than european veggies, secondly regarding scarcity of food let me correct you,we have donated 50k metric tonne gandum means wheat to afghanistan which whole europe could not donate yet and lastly india waste more food than any country due to inadequate storage facilities.
and corruption.
Loved this episode. It should get lot of views:)
Ur voice is much soothing
