Thanks so much for including Unrest Jamey! I’m so glad the deduction puzzle at the heart of it really popped for you.
Some of my favorite games that use facedown cards include Kanagawa (this game includes some partial information on what’s on the face of the card with its card back) and Air, Land, and Sea which allows you to play cards facedown as a bluffing and randomness smoothing mechanism that pulls things together nicely. Also loving the morph variant in the latest Magic The Gathering set, facedown creatures lead to many interesting decision points on both sides!

Unfathomable is the reimagined Cthulhu version of Battlestar Galactica 😃

The reverse of this could possibly be Hanabi where you know everyone else’s cards but your own and you’re trying to figure your cards out.
I also like Silver and Scram which both do similar things with cards being down or up depending on how you acquire them.
You mentioned this one already but me and a friend just played Air Land and Sea and that was a really fun time.

It's a Wonderful Kingdom really does this well. I've also been playing Forks a lot lately, it's not quite the same mechanism but I love keeping one card for points then passing the rest to determine which suits lose and gain points. Stockpile is also great!

While these games don't have a choice (cards must be played/discarded face-down), I definitely love the feel of both Shadows Over Camelot and Dead of Winter. Both require face down cards because the system needs to help the (potential) traitors in the group, but it does result in some very interesting table exchanges.

I love BS! In Brazil we normally call it "Duvido" ("I doubt it")

When I heard this topic, the first two games that came to mind were Hanamikoji and Air Land and Sea. Glad to hear both were mentioned! Your overview also really piqued my interest in Tussie Mussie and Sundae Split

Air, Land, and Sea has some very sneaky face down stuff. Let's you play cards into non-matching locations at lower strength, but other cards might flip them up to full strength and trigger their ability. Other cards might increase the power of your face down. It's like playing Marvel Snap cards face down. Played last week, and had a BLAST>

Two games that hit the table often for us are Sheriff of Nottingham and Village Pillage- which I think fits the definition since even though you always play cards face down for your neighbors, everyone starts with the same 4 cards and the market is face up so you always know what cards your neighbors could play.

My pick would be Paleo… which doesn’t make you feel sneaky as it’s a co-op game, but the feel of exploration and mystery really shines through

Stockpile would be my choice. You put one card face up and one card face down onto the stockpiles. Once everyone has done that, players bid on the piles.

Colt express has you laying cards in both direction, face up and down. There is the round card telling you which ones are face up and face down. Colt express belongs on this list.

Yugioh uses the face down card as their trap card, when opponent attacks you can activate it and executing the effect.
I miss the simple and straight forward gameplay of yugioh... 😢
