    *Most* RUclips commentators know nothing about music, only comment by impulse and forget that their personal opinion is not fact. Maybe if you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad, It could be the greatest song in the world and you might not connect to it.
    This is a fucking amazing song from an amazing album.

    • @tyronrex1612
      @tyronrex1612 9 лет назад +6

      Maybe your personal opinion is the one that's a little bias and based more on fanboy love than fact, Maybe you're the one who knows nothing of music.
      Maybe, Tiago it's time to broaden your musical horizons a little, because this song, and ultimately this album is objectively really....really bad.
      Amazing? This is so far from amazing it's not even funny...

    • @diabreucruz
      @diabreucruz 9 лет назад +24

      Tyron Rex opinion is always biased, that's what distinguishes opinion from fact.
      I didn' say my opinion was fact, but rather that this song isn't really deserving of such negativity. It has classic weird melodies from The Colour And The Shape era. Just because it doesn't convey any emotional connection to you doesn't make it bad.
      And don't worry my musical horizons cover lots of genres from old school hardcore, punk, metal, classic rock to country, pop, lounge music and electronica.
      The question is, what did you expect the record to be? Wasting Light 2.0?

    • @tyronrex1612
      @tyronrex1612 9 лет назад +3

      I expected well crafted, well thought out, engaging, hook-laiden tracks with insightful, relevant lyrics and original ideas
      I expected the concept of the band traveling the country, immersing themselves in local scenes and history whilst recording the songs to be reflected in the songwriting and the music.
      The songs are totally irrelevant to the series other than the fact that he's thrown a few random, out of context quotes into the lyrics and used a guest artist here and there.
      Also, if you're going to write 6 or 7 minute songs it helps if they're actually engaging, In a poor attempt at clever songwriting Grohl's simply increased the snooze factor and further alienated the listener with static melodies and re-hashed riffs.
      Lazily written power pop, bundled up in a cheesy gimmick is not a recipe for a great album.
      We all know Dave can write a great album but he's fucked up majorly on this attempt, it's a shame really.

    • @melissarukes5507
      @melissarukes5507 9 лет назад +14

      Tyron Rex Why do you think every song needs to have a "hook?" That's a pop music state of mind...

    • @diabreucruz
      @diabreucruz 9 лет назад +12

      Well, most of what you expected I could find in this record. I found the hooks, the melodies, the well crafted progressions. Yes, some songs didn't grabbed me immediately, but after careful listening I fell for them.
      Sure, the songs don't reflect the sound of each city, except maybe for Washington and Seattle, but as they stated, they weren't out to create a country song, a blues song, a psychedelic song, etc... Plus, they also mentioned they had rough versions of these songs before they arrived at each city.
      From that, I basically expected to learn the history from the TV series and whatever influence the enviroment had on the band to be less recognizable to the listeners. Only they know what the enviroment did for the songs.

      Rineta LeGal Dave Grohl after Nirvana went through hell and back again to where he is now, still a famous and accomplished musician who does not live in the shadow of his past. He was able to move on, make his own music even though some might not enjoy it, Kurt would be fucking proud of him, proud to see that he was able to move on, something he was not able not.

    • @rinetalegal6020

      Rineta LeGal Boring shitty pop music ? I agree he has commercialised his music a lot but this is not "Boring shitty pop". I don't care what Kurt's opinion is. If I had to guess I don't think he would enjoy listening to it that much but he might have been proud of Grohl for how far he has come. Personally I haven't enjoyed this album and I didn't buy it, I love the Foo Fighters but this just wasn't them. I hope the next album that Grohl is already preparing ( YES! Hes that good!) will be heavier and a bit more edgy.

    So far, it seems like the people who dislike this record are all up in arms because they can't have a wank-fest to a typical cookie-cutter Foo Fighters single on this album because there simply isn't one. This album pushes so many boundaries this band has confined themselves within over the last decade, and that alone should be respected and appreciated. Wasting Light started that transition (though it fell flat on its face after the first 5 songs on the album), and this album is just another step in that direction. It takes a lot of courage to redefine a sound that you have had for so long that has brought in so many fans. Kudos to the Foos for having the balls and artistic integrity to make that leap. This is a fantastic album and arguably their most inspired since The Colour and the Shape.

    • @Tocaraca

      I mostly agree, except how exactly did Wasting Light fall flat after the 5th track?

    • @7corners
      @7corners 4 года назад +1

      @@Tocaraca After the 5th track on Wasting Light, they fell into autopilot. The songs sounded like songs that would've been left on the cutting room floor during the One by One sessions.

    • @Tocaraca
      @Tocaraca 4 года назад +2

      @@7corners Totally disagree.
      These Days is a fantastic track, perfect balance between restrained verses and explosive choruses. The syncopated groove in the chorus super strong. The drop from the bridge to the final chorus especially is incredible.
      Back & Forth has a great melody and is overall just fun, although I'd say it is the weakest track on the album.
      A Matter Of Time is not even close to being "autopilot" material. The groove in the entire thing is exceptional, and just like These Days, the contrast between different parts of the song is stellar.
      Miss The Misery is the best song on the album (for me anyways). The 6/4 time sig groove is excellent, the guitar solo towards the end is splendid, it's just a great song.
      I Should Have Known is the most different song on the album, featuring strings and extremely overdriven bass guitar at the climax, which separates it from the rest of their discography. It's nowhere close to being a throwaway track, and is the most standout on the album.
      Walk is an absolute classic.
      Out of all of those, Back & Forth is the only song I could come close to calling "cutting room floor" material.

    • @davidag90
      @davidag90 4 года назад

      @@Tocaraca Absolutely agree. I feel everything 7 corners said is true, except "Wasting Light" is far from being "autopilot" in its second half.

    Feels like a love song to younger Dave and just so good. The transition to a worldly band where reflection and freedom is more apparent. Outstanding. Not to mention, if the Foos ever wrote a Bond theme this is it!

    I think this album is what echoes silence patience and grace tried to do. Foos branched out musically and created something unique, but still Foo fighters. I love what they did and it may not be the typical adrenaline based music, but it really shows his influences and how effective you can make music by keeping it so simple. This is my favorite song off the album for sure.

    "I might think that you love me, but I know damn well you don't.." His band has so much 'personality' and he's clever in writing some words in there that has irony and truth in it, something that sticks in my mind long after the song has ended

    Although I personally liked this album, I expected the Seattle track to sound like something out of their first album.
    Actually, the Foo Fighters need another album like that. They need more great tracks like "I'll Stick Around", "Alone + Easy Target" or "Exhausted".
    They should take a break after the Sonic Highways tours. Dave should rest his mind a bit and record another album all by himself.
    I have this feeling that they are trying way too hard to make something great. While all they need to do is to not overcook their records. To not care too much about their production value.
    The Foo Fighters are not a grunge band anymore, I do get that. But it would be great to see them releasing something as good and as raw as "Colour and the Shape" or "Foo Fighters" again.

    I have only become a fan of the Foo Fighters in recent years and for some reason I can't stop playing this song. When I first listened to it I didn't fancy it but now I love it and have played it over and over the past few days. It reminds me of one of their earlier songs but I just can't put my finger on it, can anyone shed some light?
    Loving outside and in the clear too - still need to watch the rest of Sonic Highways but I have loved every minute of it so far. Way to go Foos!

    For anyone experiencing doubts about this album, but you really adore the foo's, and are thus, disappointed;
    Take a long ride, maybe a bus, or a car drive, and just listen to the whole album straight through. This totally changed my opinion of the album, from "I'm just not liking any of these songs and to be honest it's boring" to "wow I love theses songs"
    It seems to me this album is something you need time to absorb, instead of just immediately loving each song. This really is a brilliant record.

    Great track, easily my favorite off the new album (though I may be a bit biased because I live a few hours from Seattle). Dave clearly mentioned during the HBO companion documentary that his real goal was to reflect each city's musical identity WITHOUT deviating too much from the style that the Foo Fighters have already established (i.e., he didn't want the Nashville track to sound too much like a country song). With that in mind, I think this is a pretty stellar representation of Seattle-- it may not be a straight grunge song like it seems many were hoping it would be, but it's absolutely nailed the sense of introspection and self-doubt which made grunge so massively important and successful. Not only that, but on listening closer to the song after the first few times, I could hear that there were actually references to Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains in the lyrics too. I'm really proud to have this lovely song representing my area of the country.

    Nothing left within, I've been mined
    Hell and back again, subterranean
    I've been digging in down inside
    I will start again, subterranean
    But the truth is so unkind
    What do you know, how low the sky
    Yet the truth is so unkind
    What do you know, how low the sky
    You might think you know me
    I know damn well you don't
    Oh no, oh no, you don't
    You might think you own me
    I know damn well you don't
    Oh no, oh no, you don't
    Buried my heart, cannot go this alone, oh no
    Poison this house, god in the stone
    Oh no, you don't
    Nothing left within, I've been mined
    Hell and back again, subterranean
    I've been digging in down inside
    I will start again, subterranean
    But the truth is so unkind
    What do you know, how low the sky
    You might think you owe me
    I know damn well you don't
    Oh no, oh no, you don't
    I might think you love me
    But I know damn well you don't
    Oh no, oh no, you don't
    Bring all your lies leave them deep in the dirt
    Oh no, you don't
    Pull down my eyes
    Lay me deep in the earth
    Oh no, you don't
    Nothing left within, I've been mined
    Hell and back again, subterranean
    I've been digging in down inside
    I will start again, subterranean

    I like it. Almost a Nirvana/Foos answer song to Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun". Conceptually speaking, it's the 14th track of Nevermind-the album's long-lost "When the Tigers Broke Free" scene (in other words, it grounds the Nirvana masterpiece in concrete reality the way the Floyd's "Tigers" does to The Wall). So what if it's been stripped of all teen-pop connections that the start of the grunge movement had used as a structural backbone? The song is grunge nonetheless-progressive, grown-up grunge.
