Magnificent work.
That was so helpful Amie. I struggle with too much colour then can't layer anymore especially with birds like blue wrens and Aussie birds. Really appreciate the real time. Thank you
This deserves more views and likes
Thank you very much for saying that! 💖
Thank you! I’m just getting into coloured pencils and I’m tackling a raven from one of my photos.
Have fun!
Hi guys! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial 😁 let me know if there are any other tutorials you’d like to see 👇👇
Ty it help me
A lot of very useful tips for anyone wanting to improve their technique, it's great to see so many commentors saying exactly that & being inspired.
Your work is fantastic.
Glad it was helpful!
@@Amiehowardart For anyone wanting to try this, it certainly was. I've been doing this for 40 years, but it's always useful to see how other artists work.
@@leftpastsaturn67Absolutely! I could not agree more. Making the process bit by bit while enjoying it is the best without a doubt. I totally agree as an artist and instructor as well. Thank you Amie! And if you are wanting to learn Amie does very well 😊
I mainly draw portraits/pop culture things, but I've been planning to draw a bird as a challenge! Went straight to your channel since you do so many animals. Thank god for this video and your other bird tutorials, I haven't drawn a bird in five years! Though I'm using pastel pencils instead of colored pencils, the techniques for feathers are still helpful. I think I've decided on a bald eagle - lets hope this goes well!:D
Thank you for this video! I have been wanting to try rendering an owl and I think you just gave me the confidence to start it. I really appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge and experience with us.
Thanks for watching, Toni! =D
Excellent video. No distracting loud background music and very easy to hear without difficulties (great sound).
Wow! Amazing! It looks so realistic as if you could touch the feathers and feel the softness. In addition, they eye of the bird is wonderful, so glassy-looking. Thank you very much.
Very nice technique Amie! I love doing birds, maybe a bit of everything and your vids are excellent. The puffin are so lovely. I enjoy using the light sepia, which looks a bit cooler f😊 my browns even the brown violet, Mars because they lean towards the blue or using indigo light handeds. I enjoy listening to others’ methods, I also like to put a darker color down, maybe not the darkest value quite yet but I also absolutely love to add into the fur or plumage the lightest and beautiful variation of color so that when I go over them( it will happen 😂) if there are a number of layers then the ceramic knife will also pull out down to those light layers and really show them off. Beautifully done.😊
I find your drawings amazing and your tutorials help me to work on my realism, it takes so much patience and precision
I really enjoy it! Thank you, Amie, you are amazing artist!
Very helpful, I have been struggling with feathers and it makes me nuts. Now I will start a 3rd drawing of a hawk using your technique that now makes perfect sense
Thank you.
Scott
Thanks for the tips, I will definitely try them out next time I'm trying to draw feathers!
+Em's Art Studio thanks for watching, Em 🤗
That was great. Thank you. Just what I was looking for. Can’t wait to try it. ❤
As a brand new oldie (very!) to coloured pencils, I found this so very helpful. I’m determined to try my first bird, thank you
I hope you enjoy working with coloured pencils, they’re a real treat!!
Great tutorial I'm going to refer back to this when drawing paleoart
Wow..such a great tutorial..its so helpful..thanks for sharing..
very well done,
thx for the tips
Aime I must admit here that you have given the most insightful techniques so far that i have seen on RUclips over how to work with color pencils, I did visit your web page as well...the detail and precision which you have explained is too good...you have also given me a way to not use solvent and still get the details in...i bought caran d ache on your recommendation...i am going to try a piece soon...i hope i can come to some good...am scared actually 🙂
Great technique
Thank you a very good tutorial
You sound so much like Kirsty Art but deeper voice. Not going to be surprised if your channel grows like hers, amazing amazing video. This is coming from a high schooler who has an assignment about drawing animals.
Your kestrel is fantastic, and great tips
+michael mc ewan thank you 😊😊
Thank you!
👌super shading
Thank you so much 😀
thank you so much! It really helped me with a digital pencil work❤️
You're welcome 😊
Thank you for your tutorial . Greetings from Spain !
Welcome!!
Beautiful
Thank you
You are an excellent teacher with an easy to listen to voice. I just have one request, would it be possible to show the reference photo? Especially when you are explaining how to place feathers in a group, or other points you have. I truly get lost sometimes trying to follow and depict the different areas in a photo. If you could possibly point to the area on the photo you’re talking about and actually show the example of a feather grouping it would help so much. Thank you for considering this request
Thank you for all your tips with color pencils. One of the problems I have is being able to get that sharp point on my pencils. I do get a point but not good enough in comparison to yours. What pencil sharpener are you using?
An automatic sharper by X-Acto is what I use and love gives it a great point look around and find one, wish you luck!
Great tutorial. Thank you for sharing your talent! What do you recommend for the slight blending that you mention to achieve silky, shiny feathers?
So helpful
Glad you think so!
Amie Howard Art do you have any tips on smooth color
Wow! I love your artwork! Will this technique work with Prismacolor pencils?
Absolutely!! 😊
You've probably been asked this before but how do you get your pencils that sharp?! Is there a specific pencil sharpener you use please?
It is easy technique
I like it.
Can I blend in with baby oil??
Thnx
How would you do feathers in bright colors, like blue or purple?
Excellent video! My birds always look like they're covered with fur, not feathers!
Can you tell me what is a solvent, enjoy watching the how to draw feathers video
A solvent is basically a liquid that dissolves other substances :) In this case, the solvent dissolves the binder of the coloured pencil allowing it to be moved around the paper and saturate the colour more
Obviously wallhacking 😛
