Been recently working on my first ps1 horror game these past few months with little to no game development experience whatsoever. Your tutorials have been absolutely life saving for nailing down the retro aesthetic I was looking for. Hope to have the game finished at some point this year and have you try it out when it's ready 😁
Unfortunately not. I was going for a Blair Witch styled ps1 survival horror game, but it ended up just being too much of a hassle relying on youtube tutorials to finish it without any prior game development experience. I still have an unfinished demo of it on my computer. Maybe someday I'll go back and complete it.@@stuartgreen9088
Thank you Sir for these precious indications! I'm a total beginner on developing and I'm working on a low end lenovo laptop. I'm super poor but creative and motivated. Thanks to you I maybe could create my first video game. I set framerate to 30 but it stay between 15 and 30 hahaha. Thanks again!!!
Hey can u make a tutorial on how to make custom ps1 arm rigs for fps? I have been struggling to do it one time and couldn't come up with conclusions. Btw amazing video 😎 ur wholesome man!
Such useful info! Showing the versatility of UE rendering, not everything is meant to look photoreal. :) The last changes you made in the config file, is there any way of doing them in editor? Thanks for sharing!
Is this video a replacement for the retro graphics video you made a few years ago? is this optimal? or is the other way involving blueprints more optimal?
Thank you for this tutorial! But I have a question... Is it possible to change screen percentage when the game is running with ingame features? For example I want to make it customizable via options.
hey man , i remember that you had a video named 5 question to ask yourself before making a game or something. i got stuck on brainstorming phase but i can't found that video.
I can't believe that I watched you for 12 minutes changing 5 settings. Do you know insane it is to scale down the resolution without scaling down the actual textures btw?
Great tutorial, I really like the effect. But I was wondering if there was a way to make text clearer for the player to read? Since the low resolution also makes reading very difficult as well since the text is also low resolution. Thanks!
@@StarkCraftsYT sorry I'm still new to developing in unreal and I was hoping you could direct me to a resource to render the UI separately. Thanks for your advice!
Got a question, I’m not very far into development for my own project so I haven’t gotten the chance to start implementing UI and Menus. Does any of this resolution altering change the way UI elements and menus look as well? I was intending on creating some high resolution pixel art assets for the menus akin to games like Signalis.
Yes I have a reason! 🙌 I used unity and godot before. I had a mid/low-end laptop and I was very slow and frustrated with unity. I switched to godot i was really really amazing and i loved it, but i only got maybe 60% into it. I got my self a gaming PC and tried unreal engine for a VR project. I made very fast progress with it and it feel so effortless and intuitive to use. In my opinion Unreal is more a graphic and design software than a game engine. Thats what i love about it.
It depends! #This one pushes the performers but takes some benefits away, like Depth-of-Field and some Lighting-Perks, etc. #The post-process-one is like a filter, no performance enhancement, but you still have all the good stuff. So, you have to deiced! :) What kinda project are you working on?
@@StarkCraftsYT Thanks! My project is a table rpg, very silent hill/resident evil 1 inspired, i'm running the game on my pc and streaming on discord to my friends, so I guess i should focus on performance over looks
man you are on fire this week

It's been a yr Where's the game?
@Thecrocodiemanmask Economy broke down and my cost of living doubled since, I don’t have time to make something
working on a student project at the mo, you've saved my ass really appreciate it!!
🔥🙏🔥 glad I could help
same!
It's like you read my mind! Was about to start researching how to do this. Thanks!
Perfect timing then :D awesome!
Awesome! This will be super helpful for remkaing my DS games!
very cool! And makes it easier to run the games as well, it isn't just a screen effect on top
Exactly:D

And don’t worry one day you will be able to upgrade.
Thank you Master ^^
Thank you so much for this video, you're awesome!
This really motivates me to create ps1 styled games!
Please do that 🙏
Hey when i open my engine config i dont see most of the text you see. Im confused
Very easy and very on point. Thanks!
Looks great!
I wanted to download the files from link in description, but the site is unavailable, are the files available somewhere else perhaps?
Thanks man! I would add the texture maximum size tweak and desabling mipmaps to avoid blurry textures instead of pixelated!
this was really easy and cool! thanks so much!
All good info up until you recommended to change the screen percentage. That makes the effect dependent on screen size, which you can't guarantee.
Maybe you can just use a formula that detects resolution and calculates the proper screen percentage!

On my patron is a big tutorial for to turn UE into a retro Engine if you’re interested

You will probably want to keep text at full resolution though.

Hello, i followed this tutorial. However i have grainy black shadows, how would i fix this?

Heck yeah!
thank you for the help

Isn't it better with a postprocessvolume fx and pixelation? i tried and just as yours

I would recommend using a pixel font or make it bigger. The second option would be to render ui separate
@@StarkCraftsYT sorry I'm still new to developing in unreal and I was hoping you could direct me to a resource to render the UI separately. Thanks for your advice!
Can you make one on ps3 style? How can I get batman arkham series style in Unreal Engine 5??
What about lighting?

The UI is its own thing!
So it totally depends on your assets, graphics and icons :)
But I will make a tutorial on menus and ui in the future.

Oke, but how do i disable motion blur? I started using this silly engine today . u .
You probably figured this out already, go to camera/post process - type blur, then turn it down to zero

I tried following along with this tutorial and I get most of it, but all the shadows are extremely noisy. Is there a way to fix that?
hey did you ever find a fix? its lumen doing its thing im pretty sure

Did you find any solution yet? Or do I have to keep looking for it myself? Hah
@@rahinox1311 its a long time ago i fixed it, if i recall you have to uncheck a box in the "lumen" settings. That is all i can remember, sorry.
Should I use this method to get pixelation instead of the other one you taught? With the pixelation material in the post process
