Love seeing that you also love the sour dough. My start is 70 years old. My parents got it from an old miner during a back packing trip into some high lakes. After their deaths I continued the use from the original start only because of the history that came with it. I alway keep a portion of it in my freezer so not to lose it. I just thaw it, then feed it. Within a few days its good to go.

Hi Brooke, I have been an avid cook for 50 years but I have never baked any sourdough breads. So, two days ago I followed your instructions to make a sourdough starter. It is fermenting away and looks very happy. I will use it to make biscuits for Thanksgiving and then go from there. I never realized it was so simple. Thanks a bunch lady!!
    God's peace

Made garlic knots with my sourdough starter tonight and they were the best garlic knots I have ever made. Better than restaurant quality knots. Loving the starter. Brooke is AWESOME!!

I’ve got my starter going and I hope my husband doesn’t think it’s something rotten and throw it out. My grandkids said it smelled like throw-up but they have baby siblings so they smell that often. It is pretty strong smelling. One day maybe try to make the Amish Friendship Bread. Takes 10 days, has sugar, milk and flour I believe. My grandma made it when I was little. You give part of the starter to a friend, and they do the same, on and on.

    Hi Brooke!
I haven't had time to bake with my starter all summer- when I took it out the fridge it was MOLDY! I've been using that starter for 3 years, was sad. Starting again, using your method again!
    Thanks for being you, girl!!

Hi Brooke, my hubby and I started watching your videos during the past year and we really enjoy both your’s and Dave’s channels. In fact, I’ve tried cooking scrambled eggs with vegetables like we see you do them, shredded potatoes, and bacon with old style peasant bread. I’ve never been one to use hot sauce, but had to try that too, and I liked it. We’ve shut off the news and come to your channel and “get happy.” I’m going to try to make some of your recipe for sour dough starter. My husband tells me about his mother making sour dough pancakes on a wood stove when he was little, he just turned 75 yr. old a couple days ago, so I’m going to try that recipe too. Thanks, you guys. We love your videos, they’re great!

Thanks so much Brooke Whipple! Going for my walk then coming home to start my sourdough starter.....science experiment on the counter! I’ll have to put a note on it so the husband won’t come by and snoop and snap the lid on tight. My goal is to try the fry bread....wow, quite a wait. 😊 thanks much. We just got snow so I’m going to “get out and get happy!”

So many good memories with your sourdough recipes. My grandma always had a crock of it going. Set over by the cook stove covered with a towel. Loved her bread. An she was protective of that crock too. She taught me alot. Sure do miss her. Thank you for this series too. Oh yes I've got the same crock with sourdough in it. Just had to start another batch up after your videos. God bless!!

Thank you for this! I have been doing the sourdough thing for almost a year now but it just isn't me, all the exact measuring and dumping out etc. I took the mix I already have, didn't dump any out, didn't measure, just went by look and feel, it is just perfect! Works great, tastes great and is way more my kind of thing.

Smiling.. It takes a lot to stay in the woods alone.. My first time was back in 2015 in the fall in Georgia. I was in a private location and the only person checked in at the game preserve.. A nylon tent and I could hear every crunch when something came near. Yup I was uncomfortable.. I found tracks the next day that were fifteen inches long with toe marks. Can't prove anything except I was not harmed, and enough firewood was left for me by the fire ring to start a fire for coffee.. True story..

Made mine a couple weeks ago. We have city water so I used bottled spring water instead. Nice and bubbly and easy to make! Two nights ago I made my first loaf of bread. It was easy and made a very delicious loaf! Just a very mild sourness that tasted more like just artisan flavorful bread. Lots of holes and bubbles, a perfect crust and a wonderful chew. Thank you so much! Good to know I never need commercial yeast again if I didn’t want (or didn’t have)!

    Hey, Brookie!
    I DID IT!
Had to wait till I fetched some bottled Poland Spring water, as I've feared that our tap water might be overly chlorinated.
    Can't wait, thanks again!!!

Yup. This came out great! Good taste, nice chew.... don’t know why it didn’t brown I the oven though! I kept the cover off for whole time it was in the oven but had to stick it in the broiler to get it to brown too😏. But, very delicious and super easy! 👍
