So many grueling hours of trying over and over again. I was so glad to see them get you out of there! Your friends did a great job of videoing the process. Wow! I hope that never happens again. 😳

      A few years ago a cell phone user plowed into the back of my vehicle, totally my car and giving me lifelong pain/injury from the accident. It is estimated that over 3500 deaths a year are caused by distracted driving that would have otherwise been prevented. I question your cavalier attitude, maybe you'll feel differently if something like that ruined your health and put you into a permanantly disabled state where you'd be bedridden or in a wheelchair rather than having the freedom of your van. Not sure how many people die from drinking a Slurpee, I'm betting not 3500 a year. Laws matter.

    I think the crucial difference between CB radios and cell phones is the visual component. Living in a very crowded county, I’m not afraid of people who are talking on the radio. It’s the people who drive along at 40-50 mph while looking down, watching videos or reading texts on their phone, who cause accidents and terrify me

    Never take your personal rig into Mexico, in ‘81 my friend n I were in his Dodge van, got pulled over from Mexican police, he demanded 25$ on the spot or drive to the station for a fine of 35$. My friend George asked the stereotypical cop if he knew his Grandfather, the cop said who’s your Tata, George replied…Senor Navaratte (retired border patrol on the TJ side), the cop’s mouth opened and tried to give the monies back but George said keep it - it’s going to be your severance pay, it was classic, as we drove away he was still standing there. I asked George are you going to tell ur Grandfather, he said Yes, that cop just loss an extremely lucrative job, and on we went to San Felipe, BC at the sea of Cortez and ate shark tacos for two days at 25 cents a piece. Miss ya George, we certainly had lots of adventures, still remember the Mexican sandals always makes me smile and laugh.

      My uncle on my mother's side was a Mexucan Federal police..my younger brother has hazel eyes light skin and he was 18yrs old when he crossed with our mom..she was born in AZ..well all was well hoping in..coming back? They tried to jail my brother for not enlisting in the Mexican Army since he had just turned 18..AND..they were asking him if he was mexican since he looked white. After mom tried to explain for hours with documents that she had on my brother, they wouldn't let him go. Mom called our relative the federal police, and he planned his escape..he told them that my brother was HIS prisoner and he would take him through the border. It worked. I will never go back to Mexico again.

    For the past several years I've been threatening my children that I was just going to get myself an RV, toss the cats into it, and take off. Then I would not have to bother with all the silliness of owning an older home. Then I could have freedom to go where I want to go.
    Unfortunately, your experience is making me rethink that whole idea.

    The depth of the nanny state in America is scary. All the steps just to get a prescription filled. I am retired in South East Asia where a doctors prescription (not required) is easy to fill anywhere as long as they are open and you can pay for it. No questions asked unless you are trying to buy lots of drugs that get people high. You can only buy a small amount of those. One thing that shocks Americans is how cheap drugs are here (except aspirin that is hard to find and expensive due to the amount of people with dengue fever). The people in these developing countries can't afford the endless layers of unneeded people that are in everything in America and Europe. I was able to buy Iv-rme-tin over the counter. We were not forced to get vaccinated or punished if we didn't. So I took 6mg every 10 days throughout the covid outbreak and stayed healthy never catching the virus. My 74 year old immune system did the job.

    • @realmarsattacksagain
      @realmarsattacksagain 7 месяцев назад

      Carolyn, I love your optimism but reality is I have lived near the border my whole life (both TX and CA) and I've had several friends beaten, robbed, kidnapped and such just by driving their RV down the Baja Peninsula. Please don't be fooled, the border problem IS NOT a construct unfortunately. 😢
      I also fly to Mexico as a scuba diver/snorkeler. It's not safe like it used to be. Boondockers have the worst time because they stick out like a sore thumb. If you travel in a group, five or more, then it will be safer. The more rural you get the more dangerous it becomes. Parking near beaches at night and other off the beaten path spots are a no-no.
      The many nice people of Mexico live in populated areas and they aren't the problem. The road rats hang out on the open highway - No such thing as safe truck stops.
      BTW if you travel to Mexico you need to learn at least a little Spanish. When in Rome... @bettygarcia5963

There are air pumps at the exit points from the beach in the Outer banks,North Carolina for this purpose. Air back up to drive on pavement.

    CB radios are much easier to hold bc they're shaped so differently than a thin cell phone. I had one in my rig when I traveled w show horses and they were great to communicate w other drivers about road conditions., speed traps etc. The audio came through the box mounted on my truck, much less hand involvement. And v little visual needed.

  • @TheJustineCredible
    @TheJustineCredible 7 месяцев назад +5

    CB Radios vs Cell Phones.
    A CB (Citizen's Band) Radio is audio only. There's no screen to watch.
    Most who use cell phones, iPhones in particular, tend to use "Facetime" and whatnot, which is most definitely a distraction from keeping one's eyes on the road.
    I'm an OG GenX'r as well and I grew up with my brother being totally into CBs and HAM radios, especially in our family's car. Growing up, my brother was in charge of getting road info from truckers, etc.
    But as one who's been in a head-on collision with a distracted driver, I can definitely say there's a big difference between CB use and cell phone use while driving.

I was going to stay for a few months but only stayed a month I hated it the dirt the poverty and the hundreds of dogs roaming the streets. But mostly my last dog Izzy was 16 and in heat failure and wanted to get him back home my other dog Shy she was 17 and lost her the year before, I had to tack Izzy to the vet girl the last time about a week after I got home, I’m devastated I’ve lots my fur babies that have been with me for 17 years I’m so alone😢 I had to drive all the way back to Washington State long drive. You well see some amazing scenery if your going all the way down to Loreto and beyond my sister loves living in Loreto I did the drive all by myself so don’t be worried I would of joined you all if I still had my retro red and white trailer, your were the first RUclipsr I watch when I started my first travels and the first RTR I went to was 2020 right before Covid and you weren’t there. I signed a petition against cell phone use a long time ago. My daughter-in-law's brother's whole family suffered in a very bad vehicle accident caused by a cell phone. The 16 year old girl was trying to reach her cell phone that had fallen from the seat to the floor on the passenger side front from the driver's seat going 60 miles an hour. She met my dil's brother head on in the ditch on his side of the road. He was a soft ware designer and is now in a wheel chair and they estimate him to about 13 years old now. His daughter had her neck broken and his son was thrown through his seat belt into the gear shift lever and killed, his wife had to have her face sewn back on. The girl only had a few bruises. I have no problems with hands free cell phone. But texting while driving is a no no, it is hand free. I have seen people on cell phones walk into trees at a renaissance fair not paying attention to where they are and why pay the money charged to get in if you aren't looking at all the stuff going on. Texting takes your eyes off the road, something a cb never did. In some places eating while driving is not allowed either. My cousin's car has a feature that she drops her phone into the holder and it will read her text messages and she can respond to it or answer calls, if that had been in place with that young girl maybe my granddaughter's cousin would still be here and she would have gotten to know him. We had gone shopping for material for her mom's wedding dress that day. Some people sadly do not have common sense so laws have to be made.
