I agree fully. That was a great character match. Excellent regional chemistry, just as Thelma Lou was cast perfectly. Helen Crump was always on the verge of a bad mood and acted as a deur displaced Yankee most of the time.

I must have watched some of the color episodes, but I think that when Barney left and the series went color, the show "jumped the shark," as the expression goes. I know the black and white episodes inside-out and STILL watch them - it is one of the best shows ever on television.

He did a little meet and greet with fans, and was still wearing his stage makeup. It was a real thrill, and he couldn't have been nicer. No connection with Andy Griffith show, but I hate it when people ask for proof of meeting famous folks. It shows how little we trust one another in this modern world. Of course not, but there were some basic values that were present then that seem to be absent now. The fake jail house isn't very close to what the jail was on the show. They built it right next to the real Wally's filling station. I thought it was just a built up thing too, until I felt when I stepped on a piece of plywood, and said to the lady this place must have had a basement. She told me, no, that's the lube rack. We talked to her for about 20 minutes, and found out it was the actual Wally's filling station, that Andy based it on. The original owner and Andy's father were cousins. He used to hang out there as a kid, so when he made the show, He put Wally's filling station into it.
How did they get away with not even an honourable mention of Doris Packer , Howard Morris or Bernard Fox? They all played well acted characters , and the episode with both Morris and Fox was incredible!

We all visited Mayberry on Mondays during the first run of the show and every day when it was in reruns.

I watch the show regularly on DVD and recall all of the appearances. I think that my favorite was Julie Adams as the county nurse.🤔😊👍
Jerry Van Dyke and Andy Griffith were also in the movie Angel in my pocket.
How did they get away with not even an honourable mention of Doris Packer , Howard Morris or Bernard Fox? They all played well acted characters , and the episode with both Morris and Fox was incredible!

@FuhkYT same here, watched the first 5 seasons thousands of time but the color episodes really turm me off not to mention the show basically ended for me when Barney left. Just like Larry zMondello on beaver. Just lost something.... Jeff
@@JWTX I agree. Don Knotts was extremely skilled at making the incompetent Barney somehow difficult to hate. The new supporting cast members were awful. Howard Sprague may be my most despised TV character of all time.
@@arise2945 Jerry VanDyke would've been a better Barney replacement. I think he was offered Gilligan's role, too. My Mother the Car was a mistake.

I once saw Morgan Brittany in (what used to be) Sav-on Drugstore in Studio City Ca, in the late 70’s. She had zero makeup on (it was early morning). Huge difference without makeup but still very pretty.

I saw Bob Denver in person at New River Gorge Bridge Day in West Virginia in 1994. He and his wife were living in Princeton, West Virginia at the time.
