    Great detailed review, thank you . for a zoom lens I prefer more focal range instead of aperture. so I pick the 20-70 and a 85mm f1.8 as a combo maybe

    I wouldn't dismiss distortions that quickly. Software can only correct distortions in the plane of focus, in a 3D scene, there will be effect on bokeh and distortions in other areas. Also software correction involves cropping and stretching, affecting the resolution.

    The walking test with active stabilization is noticeably more stable with the Sony lens imo.

      Does this affect normal photography? or just stablisation when doing video?

    Didn’t realise the difference in bokeh between f2.8 and f4 is that noticeable. Kudos.

    How about a comparison of the Tamron 20-40 vs the Sony 24-50.

      Thanks Another great review. Now for something from left field. Sony came out with a trio of compact lenses. 24-40 and 50 all at 2.8 or faster. They would retail for around $1700. There is some distortion with these lenses. So, compared to the 24-50, how do they compare? Although, the 24-50 weighs in slightly less than a pound and combined weight of these lenses is less, which way would you go?

    I don’t know, i guess Sony 20-70mm seems more practical to own due to its wider range of focal length. You have shown us how good Sony’s DoF and not much different than tamron. But the price of the lens really put me back. Have to wait if the price will go down after sony’s 24-50mm f2.8 lens becomes available. Or may be just get the 24-50mm..

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah I don't think the Sony lenses will drop in price, but they do occasionally have sales for $100 off, and you can find the lenses used of course once they are out for a bit... These newer Sony G lenses offer several features that make them cost significantly more than the Tamron offerings, but you may not need those features so it's always a give and take situation when it comes to lenses, and the optics on the Tamron zooms are excellent. All the best and thank you for the comments, Jay

    Thank you for the video. On the gimbal - did you have standard or active stabilisation turned on or completely off?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  6 месяцев назад +1

      I usually leave standard on when using the gimbal, but you could have off if you want as well.

    Nice video! Thinking to get the Sony lens. How's the photo performance you feel on handholding instead of using a gimbal? Did the lens go imbalanced on gimbal at 70 range?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks! I only use the gimbal when recording video, I never use it for photos. I only balanced the gimbal at 20mm, so you can zoom a bit and it will still work on the gimbal. If you want to zoom to 70mm I would recommend balancing the gimbal at ~40mm so the it's in the middle of the zoom throw. That will allow you to zoom the entire range while on gimbal. At 70mm it is still going to work the gimbal a little harder, but it can handle it.

    Hi. I love watching your videos and I find them very helpful. I just recently purchased the Sony a6700 and a SD V90 card. I'm having issues playing back the 10 bit 4k footage that I recorded on my computer. It is very choppy when I try to play it back. How do you view your 10 bit 4k Sony footage on your computer? I was hoping to be able to record in the highest 10 bit 4k quality but currently I can't play it without it being choppy so I really hope maybe you can help me.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Andrew, This can be an issue for some computers for sure and if you are using the high compression efficient XAVC HS 4K like I do, you really need a fairly new computer to be able to play the files smoothly. Have you tried recording in the less compressed format known as the XAVX S 4k? See here: helpguide.sony.net/ilc/2320/v1/en/contents/0412B_file_format.html?search=record%20format That should play back much better on your computer, but the file sizes are a bit larger is all... If that doesn't work, getting an external SSD drive like this sandisk geni.us/wQ3py to hold your video files while editing... Worst case you may have to invest in a new PC... I hope that helps and all the best, Jay

      @Jason_Hermann Thanks for the information! I actually have a new computer that I got last year. My computer is a Dell Inspiration AIO 7720. I'm not sure if that is that is good enough to play the videos properly? I have tried recording in the different file formats and still had issues playing the video. What is the type of external drive you recommend? I was unable to open the link.
