    This lens totally outshines Tamron 17-28mm. Cost, performance and size is simply unbeatable. I almost got 17-28 but discovered this little gem...I am so pleased I bought it because it's way more versatile than any other wide angle zoom I ever owned. Canon produced a similar lens back in 80's and that was 20-35mm f/2.8 L. I had it for almost 10 years and loved it. This Tamron is optically superior in comparison to that old zoom. Great video and fantastic review...keep them coming. Subscribed!

    Cool analysis of the 20-40mm. I think I need this lens BECAUSE the range that it covers is PERFECT for how "I" shoot. I do party events so I take shots on the dancefloor with the party guests. You did not mention that. 📸💯💪

    I'm grabbing this as my A7C 28-60mm kit-lens replacement and (with some trade-in credit) using it as an affordable opening to figure out what focal lengths in the 20-40 range to commit to a quality prime for. The 28-60 already traded out the tele end for compactness and I didn't miss it, because like you say - when I want a 'detail' shot I really want to exaggerate that 'punch in' effect with a 150mm + tele (or to go put my wideangle 10cm from the subject). I'm not worried about the long end because there's tons of options I can pickup down the road for when I know I will want longer reach. 50-85-135 primes, or a fast 50 and a 70-200, or the Tamron 35-150 2-2.8 and 150-500, or a hilarious 2-lens kit of the 20-40 and the Sigma 50-500.

    Super cool lens option! This plus the 28-200 is a complete kit and incredible value. I really respect Tamron for choosing to price this very competitively; it's the obvious first lens choice for a lot of people now. Thanks for your review!

    I actually don't care about this lens at all, I don't even have a Sony camera, but I watched your whole video till the end. Just because I admired your bravery to do it all in English. You make some very common mistakes similar to other Japanese people but overall you're doing amazing. I just wanted to say that. Really admire you. But between the 20-40 f/2.8 and the 28-75 f/2.8 II, how to make the decision?
    I had the 28-75 f/2.8 II, but I always find it not wide enough nor reach far enough.

    • @KenseiAkatsu
      @KenseiAkatsu  2 года назад +2

      It's about if you invest on wide or telephoto side.
      You can get a reach by getting close to the subject physically, or just cropping the image.
      But solutions are less in Wide.
      So, I would go for wide.

    Imagine this lens, with an 85mm 1.8? That’s like the perfect lens duo you wouldn’t really get with a 24-70. There’s still more use in owning an 85 if you own this 20-40 because of its lower reach. I was considering getting a 28-75 and a 17-28, but I might get this 20-40 and an 85mm instead. Pretty great stuff.

      I've had both. If it's for events, the Signal is much better, but if it's just for traveling and you don't want to draw too much attention to yourself, then I would go with the 20-40. I think the Sigma focuses slightly better and the image quality is slightly better.

    The 20mm 2.8 is really unusable for video and my 28-75mm is not wide enough for what I'm shooting, I rarely shoot at 50mm+, can't wait for this one.

    What an useless focal range. Could’ve given us 20-55 at least. I’ll stick to my 28-75 g2 and 20mm prime.

    • @kaka3416
      @kaka3416 2 года назад +3

      Actually I pre-ordered it and planned to keep my sigma 28-70. I dont care the overlapped range. If I need to shoot sth with wide and standard or some selfie, I will use the new tamron. When I need to shoot event photo or portrait or more need on telephoto, I will use the sigma 28-70. They can help to save time on changing lens. I had tamron 20mm and sigma 28-70 and I found it is quite annoying in switching lens between them.

      But then you have to swap lenses. 40mm crop to 50mm is a very small crop. This feels more usable than a standard zoom + wide prime, especially if you're travelling in an urban area and constantly go indoors/outdoors.

      @@Ezrabastian 35mm is very close to 40mm. But calling 20 close to 35/40 is a joke. That's more than a 1.5x crop difference. And even more from 20 to 40mm. A 35mm can't even be used in a cafe to shoot a group of friends for example. That's where a 20-40 would be perfect. Wide for the fun stuff, 35 or 40 for the details.
