    This 59 bug has the gas gauge in between the wiper and headlight knobs. That is not factory, it was an option that was installed by the dealer when the car was bought new. I’ve only seen a few bugs with it, including my 58 bug. 👍. Very cool. Check out my videos on my 58.

      I prefer the quickstart over neat fuel... Won't flood the engine. Trick is to keep spraying in small spurts while cranking and after starting until its running. But each to his own method.

      @@baggieshorts1406 - By far for a car like this gasoline dribble is the way to go.
      Adding to that the detail that the tank has an access broad enough. Where you can easily stick your hand a small glass in there and simply pick up some gas. No hoses needed. Perfect for a 6 volt start system.

      joe woodchuck The sleight downside of a 66, is that it’s a one off year, and some parts only fit the 66. I don’t know if I could find a 1300cc engine that came with that year. I don’t have the original transmission, I have a freeway flyer transmission, it’s very cool.

    There are no changes for 1959 VW Bug, except for serial numbers. For 1958, the changes are: 1). Stronger fan belt, 2). Stronger reinforced frame, 3). Wider brake drum, 4). Larger rectangular rear window; windshield slightly enlarged, 5). Flatter accelerator pedal; formerly roller type, 6). Radio grille moved left a front of the driver, 7). Front turn signals moved a front of the fenders, and 8). "W" on the deck (engine) lid dropped.

    Two "experts" who have no idea. After such a long service life, change the oil, change the plugs, replace the contacts, remove the ignition cable, remove the carburettor, clean the diaphragm and nozzles, check the fuel pump, replace if necessary. It is best to remove the engine, check valves and cylinder heads, if necessary, work on them, replace head gasket, additionally check clutch and replace if necessary. Everything else is nonsense, even if the engine should start someday.

    There are no changes for the 1959 VW Bug, and everything was left for 1958, both body and mechanical changes. For 1959, VW Bug only Change is the model and serial numbers changes. If the buyer chosen to add on the aftermarket fender skirts on the 1958/59 VW Bug it look cool. I have seen aftermarket fender skirts on both 1958 and 1959 vintage VW Bugs with rear rectangular back light, since it was introduced in 1958.

  • @josephbingham1255
    @josephbingham1255 4 года назад +1

    Make sure you have a quality rubber seal between the engine and the body. If it's brittle and broken hot exhaust will enter the closed engine compartment. The fan will recirculate that hot air over the cylinders. Number 3 cylinder runs hot enough already!

    • @PetrolHeadBrasil
      @PetrolHeadBrasil 4 года назад

      In old cars, the fuel pump is mechanical. The engine must be running to pull fuel from the tank. On engines that are stalled for a long time, it takes time for the pump to start running at full capacity.

    My first car was a 59 in 1970. No gas gauge, just a stick with some lines. Needed rewiring, did it all in red. Had Oldsmobile rims welded on VW centers, 9.00x14 on the rear, 7.50x14 on the front. Only ran about 10 psi in the fronts or it would skate when you turned the steering wheel if there was 15 psi. Replaced it with a Mini Cooper 4 months later.

    Take the frigging carb out and flter, clean them, take out old fuel out of the tank, install a temporary fuel tank with some gas and 2 stroke oil mix(loosening the dry rings) then start it !! Take the plugs out too !
    And yes, drain the old oil you did contaminate with that carb or brake cleaner ! Basic procedure, guys !! C'mon !
    Otherwise, you'll ruin it !!

      Hey CT, I haven't noticed it was on your vlog !! As some gus advised, using starter fluid is ok IF the engine starts like Now ! Otherwise, the stuff leaks down the cylinder walls and/or the valves,then mixes with the oil and ruins it on the spot. Up here in Canada we used to use the stuff when weather was extremely cold and our car equiped car would'nt start. If it wored, we went staight to a garage for an oil change. Now, with fuel injection, you're toast !
      Keep on wrenching man ! 👍

    No, no, no to all the comments. I think they just got the car and want to try their luck by starting the engine and hearing it for any noises. Mechanics sometimes do that.They know it will eventually need a carb rebuild and will get to it. What I would say is they should look at the whole ignition circuit and if need be renew old, rusty wires, points, plugs etc. It will then fire up at first kick.

    Que contradição, esses moços encontrarem essa raridade e não saberem lidar com ela. Pro fusca pegar fácil, ele precisa estar com o carburador bem limpo, injetando bem, bateria boa, o que tem, velas e bobina novas, estar no ponto, ter corrente e gasolina nova, limpa, se possível fora do tanque, e fluindo bem. Se for necessário, saca os cabeçotes e revisa a abertura e o fechamento das válvulas. Tomara que eles não queimem o arranque do carro porque, WD não é combustível não.

      Creio antes de dar lhe com bateria forte e gasolina limpa e fora do tanque, deveriam trocar as velas, os cabos e o platinado, fazer ajuste correto do ponto de ignição, além de verificar a folga das válvulas, e trocar filtro de combustível.
      Como ele fizeram nesse vídeo, poderiam ter danificado completamente o motor dessa jóia raríssima !!

    What a way to start and engine. Ken Smith was bang on. Clean carb and at least static timing especially with a new dizzy. Would have then started on the button. Using so much Easy Start will be no good for an engine.

    I hope they have taken the plugs out and put some oil in the notes to unstick the rings from the bore and pistons!

    When my vdub would turn over but not run, I would think it is either not getting fuel, or not getting spark.

    That's a gem. Think I'd go for the oily rag look and preserve the patina.

    Timing should be at 10 degrees top dead center and it lacks fuel supply to keep running

    Did you clean the carburetor, fuel lines, if the car has been parked for any amount of time, the gas gets gummed up and.it creates problems, like starting issues.

    I would hope at least the oil was changed and carb. rebuilt, plugs and points changed before trying to start????? If not when it does start???? .... the engine could be severely damaged.

    Been sitting for 45 years so let's run it on brake clean? Try next time a little 2 stroke mix to help lubricate the cylinders instead of killing them brake parts cleaner
