Is Riverstar's Book DOOMED to fail?

- The preview for Riverstar's Home dropped and I'm not optimistic.
(Something I forgot to add in the video: The biggest chance for "Riverstar's Home" being advertised to the casual audience is him appearing in the upcoming Warrior Cats book, "Thunder." But that book doesn't release until two months after the Super Edition, so it's a huge missed opportunity.)

Hi Moonkitti
I am so devastated that this super edition doesn't look terribly promising. Riverstar is one of my favorite characters, and Dawn of the Clans is one of my favorite series, and I desperately hoped that we would delve more into that time period, as well as potentially fix some of the flaws that plagued the series.
I was also hoping that we'd get Riverstar's reaction to Gray Wing's death, since I don't think it was very fair or smart to not have him - and Long Shadow - not be there when he died and get to say goodbye.
Especially considering how close Riverstar and Gray Wing got. He helped Gray Wing many times, including allowing him to stay with him during the peak of Gray Wing's depression, something which Gray Wing expressed was highly unusual because of how Riverstar - or River Ripple at the time - emphasized his desire for solitude and had just begun allowing other cats to live with him.
I loved his friendship with Gray Wing (GrayRiver Supremacy) and was hoping that this book would delve into it more, since from the blurb, it was implied that there was going to be a timeskip.
Alas, it seems that my boy is about to be done dirty :')
Do you think we could create fanfic about grayriver that would be interesting honestly since they are friends
@@sophietremblay3795 people already make grayriver fics you just gotta find them
@@dinolover8183could- could you link some?
I hope they expand on the dawn of the clans story, half of my favorite characters are from there.
Real
I mean we don't know Riverstar really, especially compared to other DOTC characters, thats precisely why he's getting a book, so we can learn more about him. That sounds like a good thing to me
I agree it's the one warriors book I've looked forward the most too this year and I can't wait to read it and find our more about him and see him succeed
I would like to learn more about Cats of the Park in Riverstar’s Home, consider that was, well, His home!
I’d also like to see Ripple’s relationship with his mentor, Arc.
I think things like that *may* save it from being a total flop
I don’t know if you’ve seen the excerpt of his book that just released but in like the first chapter he leaves the Park.
@@Spidermonkey43it could be like gratstripe’s vow where there’s flashbacks, but maybe that’s too hopeful
Riverstar was one of my favorite characters when I first read Dawn of the Clans, so I've been pretty optimistic about his super edition ever since it was announced. It would be sad to see it fail
I will literally cry if it fails
as a dotc fan, I know this book is going to be forgotten
Even though he was a minor character, I still kinda had a soft spot for him. I really hope the writers succeed on this one, cuz Onestar’s confession DEFINITELY failed
“If they make an Ivypool super edition”
It’s not a matter of if, it’s when. Apparently the publisher chooses the story/ what they want to see which would correspond to sales numbers, and the writers/ editors then create the details/ flesh out the plot. Knowing how popular Ivypool is, I wouldn’t be surprised if closer to the holidays an Ivypool super edition was announced plus more merch.
I’m still going to buy the Riverstar super edition.
I think that Darkstripe would be a good character for a super edition. He's a character that most people know and are familiar with, and it would be great to see more about him, such as his childhood and feelings about Tigerstar. I think it would sell well as a trip back to arc 1.
Let's get an angry mob to demand a Darkstripe super edition!
Maybe not a se but a novella would be good I feel like a se of darkstripe would just be a bunch of fillar
no cause they would botch him and tigerstar's relationship sm
@@STAGISTODAY shoot you’re right
I get every book even the bad ones😭 I just take double the time to read boring books... but I would betray myself if I'd skip a book
Same here
When I was younger, I wasn't able to read in English, only French, so I dreamed of not being limited by language so that I could read every warrior cats book as it comes out...
A couple of years later, I did get good enough to read in English. But now that I have the capacity to read every warrior cats book, I'm no longer interested in doing so:(
@@legrandliseurtri7495 awh man that sucks😭 I was 10 when I started reading WACA so I got the books in Dutch since I am Dutch lmao
I feel that. I always read every book in like less than 4 days but then one day I got Hawkwing’s Journey (don’t quite remember when it came out in Germany) and I was stuck on that book for sooo long. If there’s one thing that’s more boring than everything else, it’s definitely traveling cats… I also absolutely adored season 2…
@@mizukidor ugggh right!! Series 2 definitely had the most boring books in it so far 😭
Best case scenario we get something along the lines of Tallstar's Revenge which introduced a lot of original ideas and compelling conflict without tossing the main series around too much. Getting your favorite character in a Super Edition is too much of a Monkey's Paw Wish right now... the quality needs to improve again before I would get really hopeful for one.
If they give Riverstar a she-cat for a mate, I will riot.
Till we got the preview I thought he was gay tbh
@Rowananimations EVERYONE thought he was gay. This is just another case of the writers turning widely Fandom accepted LGBT characters straight. I think this is almost as offensive as giving Tallstar a she cat for a mate
They already did in the preview. Her name is Flutter
your grayriver fic is not threatened by him having a girlfriend also bi men exist
@@dinolover8183I think you're missing the point here...
My two biggest fears for the book currently are
1) that the book will have continuity mistakes of the magnitude and frequency of Leopardstar's Honor (and there unfortunately already is one in the sample because it keeps talking about how Riverstar can't swim/avoids swimming, despite the bonus scene showing that he learned it by himself by trial of fire, figuratively speaking)
2) that the book will waste most of its time on a prophecy/mystery/whatever that gets resolved in Thunder. I do not want this book to be an advertisement for another book
I had hoped that Ivypool would get her super edition soon. She’s not my favorite character, but as Akira said, she would have made the writers more money as she’s more popular.
Another thought, if the writing team was going to write about Ivypool, it would most likely not have been a latter book where Ivypool has grief for Bristlefrost’s death, but I see it more tying into the Broken Code form her perspective. We don’t need another perspective in my honest opinion, we all know how bad it was with the Ashfur situation for the Clans and the Sisters, StarClan, the Dark Forest, etc.
But Ivypool does have unique abilities from when she trained in the Dark Forest, so maybe a badger threat, or a rogue threat? Maybe she’ll get a vision and hesitates so she doesn’t leave Fernsong and her kin behind, especially after she lost Bristlefrost? I feel that would be interesting, and it could be boring, I’m just exploring options.
I do hope we get an Ivypool book soon, she has waited long enough. Riverstar is supposed to be a peaceful cat, so I don’t really see any potential right now for him, unless he somehow has to change his ways for the sake of RiverClan. Again, 4:44, Ivypool is a lot more popular and I feel it would’ve drawn a lot more people to the books than Riverstar, who focuses more on the past than the present Clans.
Iam not an Erin, soo I couldn't care less how much money the book makes, iam a super fan, so as long as the story is interesting, fine by me, I literally know nothing about him, soo it be hard to mess things up about him.
I was excited for the dotc content before i really thought about it. I love ivypool to death, but i wish the storyteam just payed more attention to the dotc characters and gave them more than one arc.
Tbh the last good se we got was hawkwings journey
1. Tigerhearts promise was just tigerheart being a horrible mate through the whole book
2.squirrleflights hope brambleclaw was a horrible horrible toxic mate and leate towards squirrelflight
3. Graystripes vow just dragged and had alot of filler in it
4. Leopardstars honor just had so much filler in it and had the most mistakes in the alliances
5. Onestars confession do i even need to say it hes a horrible cat thriught the entire book
Riverstar is a nice chill guy and he did have a backstory in one of the mini story's at the end of one of the dawn of the clan books and that was kinda boring.. So I don't have high hopes.
That backstory was included in his new excerpt. That backstory was the entire first chapter and then we probably won’t see those cats ever again in the rest of the book so there is room for more creativity for Riverstar.
Personally, as a massive Dawn of the Clans fan, I'll look forward to any content fleshing out that period. I think Riverstar could be a massively interesting character choice purely because he stayed out of all the crazy things happening around him until he absolutely couldn't. If this book does turn out to be just a Riverstar backstory/retelling of DotC from his perspective, then it could be a real novelty if you ask me. Seeing a pacifist cat in a series literally titled "Warriors" (especially a pacifist leader, even when the early Clans didn’t do as much infighting as the modern ones) would be kind of cool. But that's just my opinion, and I'm probably the only one who cares
Ok is everyone going to ignore the fact that Riverstar looks like he’d rather be anywhere else on the cover of his book?
I fear for Riverstar's Super Edition purely on the fan reaction. People voted for this and even those that didn't are very confident this will be a good book. Even before the preview came out, i was nervous that the content within would at best lacking, or at worst would character assasination.
Now that I've seen the book is over 500 pages, I'm slightly more hopeful but idk. My only real hope is that they showcase Riverstar creating an early version of the Mentor/Apprentice system as thats what he's most known for.
Sidenote; in regards to the potential love interests, we'll have to see what they as they could have it be pointless or maybe they could do something unique. But I aint holding my breath.
I love riverstar but I agree. Amazing video so far ❤
I hope Riverstar gets the amazing book he deserves. DoTC was my favourite series and from it, Riverstar my favourite cat.
I'm not even sure what even happend to Riverclan honestly. It was confusing and dull
I enjoyed the preview. I wouldn't say it's destined to fail. But it seems like the only reason that would deem it, "destined to fail" is because that's been what i've seen with all the recent Super Editions, at least to other people, I personally don't have any major problems with any of the recent Super Editions.. It's still warrior cats, so I still like it. Even if they aren't written the best etc.
I've never been interested in the early clan stuff or whatever it's called like Dawn Of The Clans.
I have read Moth Flight's Vision though and I was really.. bored and disappointed by it.
I think there's many other characters super edition worthy. For example, I would really love to see an Ashfur Super Edition because I would really want to see more villain POVs and he's just a perfect choice for one and I'm surprised he hasn't gotten one. I'd kill to see his POV during scenes like the fire scene or the entirety of the Broken Code. They could even show how his meetings with Hawkfrost went before the fox trap scene.
If they want to sell more copies they should focus more on villain POVs, because lots of people like reading about villains and reading about heroes can get super boring often (at least for me). And there's plenty of villains super edition worthy.
There's so much potential for them to explore this stuff.
A lot of the recent super editions feel really lazy and not well thought out in my opinion.
If you read Moth Flight's Vision without reading the dawn of the clans arc, then I would have been more surprised if you did enjoy it.
"Finacial decision" thats all Warrior is about now. There's no passion. It's why the books don't do well! They write books using popular names just for the sake of milking them for money. I'm hoping they can manage writing Riverstar with some heart, and make him a cool character. It'll go nicely into the next The Starless Clan book where Riverstar is going to be speaking to Frostpaw.
To be honest, you’re right. When checking the preview and the premise for this book. I do see a more likely chance this book is likely to fail. Granted I do hope to be wrong. I mean I love Riverstar. I love DOTC. But it seems weird to just now bring him out of the blue just for the sake of it. I think what is making this worse is the fact that they are forcibly trying to place Riverstar in Thunder. I think it’s obvious that they are trying to go back to standalone stories like they did with older super editions like Bluestar’s Prophecy, Crookedstar’s Promise, Tallstar’s Revenge, etc. and I don’t have a problem with that. I’ll still be interested in what Riverstar’s Home has to offer and tbh I do believe it will be better than Leopardstar or Onestar’s books.
Honestly I hope it's actually good. Although I'd prefer a different DoTC leader it would still be nice to look at Riverstar's perspective. He is a confusing character, and I expect that the book will provide a better look at his personality and hopefully more due to the fact that DoTC was only a single arc.
But he wouldn't get used again?
RIVERSTAR IS MY FAVOURITE CAT
Riverstar’s book is more likely to fall then me being in love
You missed a major point
Riverstar SE IS connected to A Starless Clan. All Super Editions proposed in the polls were.
(Spoiler incoming)
Mistystar died. Riverstar is the one sending Frostpaw on a quest, not only on the old territory, but apparently she will also meet cats from the park. And Ivypool is likely to be the next deputy.
The didn't chose him at random. They had a reason to. If the SE fail, it'll entirely be on them writing a bad story. Because this SE is another Tigerheart Shadow / Greystripe Vow.
It's always a good day when bright guardian akria post
Lol, I was playing WCUE and I got a notification about this video, I was like ‘WELP THIS WAS GREAT, HAVE A NICE REST OF YOUR DAY GOODBYE.’
I hope this super edition is focused on Riverstar moving on from his old home in the park and the formation of Riverclan being his new home, I don't care about his backstory outside of him moving on from it and being one of the few cats that appreciate water and the river specifically - he was also the one that started the mentorship stuff, I hope they look into that, that could be where his stronger feelings lie.
Personally I am kinda excited for Riverstar. But I was incredibly disappointed to see them giving him a love interest before the prologue even ended (him getting a romantic intetest was just about the only thing I was worried about might've happen when I saw him winning).
But I adore Riverstar in general, so I might still enjoy it in spite of that.
If they don't remember that Riverstar that created the idea of apprenticeship and mentors, imma sue
Im glad ivypool didnt win the se poll it would have been just another filler book with events we already seen in oots and avos
Im so exited for this book! Itll be available for me on 5th September and i cant wait!
I dont know why they seemed to skip over the cats of the park when the mentorship and worshiping the stars came from them it could have been fun world building and gotten us attached to the cats there so you'd feel something when Ripple got separated from them instead of throwing a female mate at him for manpain especially since hes widely considered queer by the fandom and dotc's fridging she-cats problem. I like River Ripple a lot but i dont think he has the drive to keep the plot going
i am genuinely confused about all these comments saying he's gay
@@crappyaccount he triggers everyones gaydar
@@STAGISTODAY never triggered mine. i read the books when they came out, so its been a while, but i never got that impression at all. i don't remember him expressing much interest in anyone. so if anything it would make more sense for him to not have a love interest at all/be asexual. not being straight doesnt automatically equal being gay after all.
i think if he was genuinely supposed to be into dudes the authors would've said something by now like they did with barley/ravenpaw or tallstar/jake or just said he's not into anyone like mousefur. but since its literally just a prequal and we barely knew anything about his early life from DOTC, it doesn't make much sense for people to be upset over it when his backstory was basically a blank slate up til now. it would be different if he spent a lot of his screentime wistfully musing about an old male "best friend" or smth but that wasn't really the case if i recall.
And worse than that, the poll was done before The Light in the Mist released and before River was announced. It was probably intended, but if those two were released/announced, the result would have been different (especially Ivypool).
Warrior's today is like every other franchise - riding on nostalgia, reusing old ideas and plots (not even thath old, our set of protagonists this arc is literal reskin of the previous ones) clinging to the old characters fans loved - destroying personalities and not taking any risks just playing it all nausiously safe so the stories are "fine" but nothing more. No memorable moments or lines... just... bland mediocrity. But I guess doing everything "by the charts" sells...
Good job as always
I was never really interested in the super editions. Except Crookedstar’s. That one was great, and I will die defending it. Bluestar’s was also pretty good, I guess.
I oh so hope it comes out brilliant
I have a question though is it ok that I’m on the last book in a vision of shadows and still haven’t even thought about reading dawn of th clans 😓
Nah, it's a hit or miss arc for most fans and it doesn't actually give much background to clan customs or anything like that.
I hate that they didn’t give more detail about the Cats of the Park, River leaves within the PROLOGUE. Also giving him a she cat love interest, Flutter, is controversial. I really hope they continue the story of Dawn of the Clans, and have parts of the book set after Shadowstar’s Life.
Almost done reading it and i am enjoying it.
I'm interested to hear more about Riverstar, as a DotC fan. Would have preferred Ivypool a bit, but hopefully we'll get her story next year.
I have read two super editions (crookeds promise & ones confession) they both had multiple mistakes but I like the mistakes. I find it funny to be reading a book and suddenly oh what’s this they call onepaw onestar!
I love Riverstar! I think this will be a fun look at his life and past regardless
I would like to point out that in the poll they mention Riverstar, Ivypool, and Mistystar. Both Riverstar and Mistystar have (Or are going to) be an important part of the plot, and I believe putting Ivypool in there too might mean she's going to be important too. Maybe as ThunderClan's next deputy? Maybe more? Who knows I just thought it would be fun to point out
I love DOTC but it could definitely be way better
Is it weird that I liked bramble star storm? I just find the messaging and it’s so good in that scene where bramble stall comforts storm Paul, when he realizes that his brother is dead, made me cry.
i love arc 5, i'd be devastated if this fails, i really like riverstar!
Love your content Akira! Keep up the great work! Tbh, I wish Ivypool should’ve had a super edition, not Riverstar. Honestly, this new book doesn’t look interesting, and I will not be buying it. Tho I am excited for a new character book.
Some reason, my brother loves Riverstar.
Hopefully we get an ivypool one next
Day 2 of asking if you can make another updated video in what order to read all the warrior cat books in order ❤
*cough*
Ashfur should get a super edition also squirrelstar...
yees
See, I think the writers have thought about all of this. They've actually planned ahead this time. Not only did they go out of their way to incorporate the cats of the park into the current main series, they also released spoilers about a few of them joining ThunderClan ahead of time so people get curious about this unique cat culture (They're definitely going to try to make them distinct like the Sisters instead of just a Clan with a few minor differences like the tribe if they can. Hence the focus on meditation.) and buy the super edition. And if more casual fans pick up 'Thunder' and see 'Riverstar's Home' at the bookstore too, they can go back for it.
We'll see if it works, I guess. Hopefully it does. The first three Dawn of the Clans books were just so good! And then it was like they realized a huge chunk of their fans just weren't interested in anything before Firestar's time and stopped trying.
