probably something to do with how the models work, like their base position was a t pose so it would throw off the accuracy of the movements if they started and ended in different poses

RobM it takes more discipline than people think. It's not a job that just anyone can do and then pull off a scene like that. These are the most talented voices in business.

In a way, I think it's harder to be a mocap actors than the traditional movie actors. I mean, I swear I wouldn't be able to hold my laughs if someone point a yellow gun to me like that
That's kinda what acting means. But yeah, motion capture actors (especially in full length movies) are very talented, e.g Andy Serkis

I know this is a two year old comment. But I’ve worked in Mocap performances before and it’s pretty much all they show them. They give them context and props, that’s all. The actors are actually in their prime here because they don’t have crew tip toeing around and the immersion is upscaled since the stage is clear of non essentials like on film sets. It’s pretty much regular stage acting with a 360 degree audience.
Why is this acting so damn captivating?
Kurostyle21 easily in my top 3 of all time greatest games I’ve ever played along with The Witcher 3, and Sanua’s Sacrifice.
Because it's just a supremely acted and written story. It stands out not just for a video game, but it stands out from movie and book stories too. Excellent vision, excellent actors to make the vision real.
That's because this is top-notch acting.
This and uncharted. Pretty much naughty dog is elite
because they are acting with more than just their voices and faces, they have to be aware of their silhouettes as well.
I like how joel is this big tough lumberjack looking guy but he's played by a skinny blond guy who looks like he's no older than 25 lmaooooo

yeah this was a lot of fun. I love how she plays Ellie. Even though they are not mocapping her face, they do a good job of giving Ellie the same facial expressions.

When I wrote "mainstream" I actually had in mind movie actors. I agree that tv shows tend to have better actors than films.
One of my favourite actors is Travis Fimmel. He plays Ragnar so well. Want to see him in other things

Jim M TV shows have better actors because they basically make a movie with each episode and go through a lot more with their work. Movie actors are lazy and waste a bunch of money on what would be one or two episodes on a tv show and it takes them years sometimes.
I always loved Ellie's attitude and how they made her--but she wasn't a total brat either. That's why it worked I think.

I might be the only one who for the life of me cannot see Troy Baker at all in Joel. All I hear is the voice.
Troy is a true chameleon as an actor. I can’t even believe Joel’s voice comes out of Troy. One of the best voice actors working today. He’s played so many iconic characters in his career. Like Nolan North as well as he’s also played some pretty iconic characters in his own right but I think Troy holds the 👑 & is definitely the 🐐 imo
Naughty Dog didn't model the character's faces off of the actors. They designed the characters how they wanted, and they found actors to act out the movements, voices, and expressions. Joel was never supposed to look like Troy Baker. Nathan Drake was never supposed to look like Nolan North
@@romilrh I think they did take a teeny bit of inspiration from Troy with Joel's design- they have the exact same eyes. Other than that, though, they're like night and day.
I would literally watch an entire series of this. It's fascinating.
Despite a completely artificial-looking environment and wearing comical looking suits, these actors are still able to immerse themselves in their roles. Incredible!

I thought it was great how Bill's voice actor managed to get that catch in his throat so when he read "You came into my home, set off my traps, damn near broke my shootin' arm" Great voice acting.
I think Ashley Johnson mentioned he had a cold when they were recording that part

Troy baker is amazing... Dude has ALREADY been the lead hero or villain in so many of the top franchises and games... Booker Dewitt in Bioshock....Joel in last of us...Talion shadow of Mordor...Pagan Min in Far Cry 4....the Joker in batman Arkham orgins, Delsin Rowe in infamous second son.... Ocelot in MGS 5.....and has already played Two Face in Arkham city and is set to in Arkham knight.... All of this in like the span of 2-3 years... Fucking crazy man..

This was so interesting to watch, the voice actors are amazing and their acting in general is amazing, just brings the entire thing to life, I love it. I just find it so cool that even with the hilarity of it all, cardboard props etc, they're able to keep a straight face and continue on with their acting regardless of how hard it is. They really get an image into their mind and act it out wonderfully.

I'm pretty familiar with Troy Baker's voice work, but for some reason him playing Joel completely escaped me until recently. Amazing performance from Baker and Ashely. I'm not really a stickler for characters and stories in video games, but this game was one where I was insanely invested in the characters. I remember when playing through the game always keeping a eye out for Ellie to make sure she was okay if she wasn't in eye line during the exploration sections of the game.
Too right man! The story in this game was phenomenal! Honestly I still play the story mode and play the extras in the remastered version on ps4. I hope there is another part to this game though have no idea what the follow up would be as joel decided against the vaccine to save ellie

Just finished replaying this game. I’d nearly forgotten just how outstanding the performances are. Even the side characters are solid and utterly believable.

I'd bet acting under these circumstances is a lot more difficult. Immersion is nonexistent and you and your fellow actors look absolutely ridiculous lol. Amazing performances, such a feat.

Esse jogo foi tão marcante em nossa vida de gamer e do momento que passamos em ano de pandemia quando foi lançado a sequência no pico do isolamento que ainda teve a versão melhorada para o PS5 e aqui estou jogando essa maravilha, não cheguei a jogar a versão de PS3 mas o remasterizado sim tanto que teve melhorias de resolução e tempo de carregamento reduzido, esse jogo marcou minha vida, tão marcante esse jogo em 2013 que ainda foi lançada a série 10 anos depois.
