College classmates have said Lauren was a horrible person, a bully, made fun of disabled or fat people. There's a video of her mocking the way deaf people talk. Sounds like she was bully from a very young age and never changed. She only surrendered after the police came to her parents' house looking for her. Barbara seemed like a lovely person and was loved by so many. This should never have happened to her.

One would hope such evidence and testimony will be permitted at the trial (if there is one). The jury needs to understand that this may have been an accident, but it was not an innocent one.

i went to our mutual friends dorm (this is the friend who introduced me to paz) and told her what happened, and she said "wait that must be the same guy who dumped his heroin kit on my counter earlier this morning" and i said "well i guess prison didnt help him huh?" but i was super disturbed because i had just met paz maybe 2 days prior to ask me to accompany her to do that was super weird to me. she had this weird thing about her where she treated you like a super close old friend even after just minutes of knowing her.

Charging and sentencing are not the same. The lawyer isn't arguing how long she should get. He's arguing that murder shouldn't fit based on her actions. The sentencing doesn't come in until after a conviction. By the way, if the prosecutor cannot prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt, she goes free completely. If her actions cannot successfully be measured up to the level of the crime she's been charged with, double jeopardy sets in, and she walks completely free without any jail time at all. Basically, you should be concerned with the charge the prosecutor has chosen to pursue. There are other possible charges that would've fit better (i.e., manslaughter). But because the prosecutor set the bar so high, it's all or nothing. Either she's convicted or she goes free. No second chances in trying someone for the same action.

Sorry but I have no mercy on someone who attacks the elderly. She caused her death, not by accident but by intentionally and maliciously shoving her to the ground. It's not like she couldn't foresee a frail elderly woman being gravely harmed by those actions. Her actions were not on accident, as if she accidentally ran into her, no she purposely sought her out, yelled profanity at her and attacked her. Sorry but twelve years is too lenient, especially when they only truly serve half of that with good behavior. She chose the action therefore she chose the consequence. Life in prison. Nor would we have the over populated prisons that you worry about. I'll take over populated prisons over letting these crimes go unpunished cause one day it might be your family or my family that grieves the loss of a loved one. I can't believe your concern is for the regard for the prison personele, not for the loved ones who've lost their mother, sister, grandma. That's sad. I agree. I’d be open to a different explanation if she would’ve stuck around & tried to help the woman…maybe she “bumped into her,” 83 year old women can be frail. All the more reason to HELP them, ideally before you knock them down. She didn’t even bother to stop, she knew something had happened at an intersection she’d just been at…I can’t imagine she didn’t know it could’ve been her doing. But she ran. Didn’t talk to paramedics, ask about Barbara, or provide context in case they could’ve given Barbara targeted aid. It’s extremely disturbing. Maybe she thinks she’s some kind of important because she goes to fashion shows in Manhattan. Reality - she was a middle class cashier. The only reason she was middle class was her dad’s family business (good on her dad for being a hard worker, nothing wrong with that) & money from her fiancés dad who bought their home (who was possibly an immigrant or son of an immigrant, good on him too). Not to knock the fiancé, the way Dr Grande put it, I’m guessing their physical altercation on March 10 was all her (if he was hitting her 911 would’ve prolly been called by a witness). Frankly he dodged a bullet with her going to prison (maybe literally).

Lastly pushing over an elderly person as hard as you can definitely always results in serious injury if not death.

Her actions (starting in 2nd grade) are important examples of how she learned early on (in the house of the King of Cesspools) that having money meant not having to take responsibility for her actions. Why else would a grown woman hide her phone, cancel social media and run home to daddy for protection? On the other hand, the grandson of the elderly woman that died (also raised in a comfortable lifestyle) continues to make his grandmother proud by his actions. His upbringing has taught him to be fair even to the person that is charged with the death of his loved one. It just goes to show you that there are some things that money cannot buy.

Yes and you should have pepper spray and maybe , MAYBE if you train with it and know it like the back of your hand , maybe think about carrying a small .22 on you just in case of the worst. Because I watch a lot of true crime and there’s so many women walking by themselves getting attacked but one or two men , which can easily over power a woman. Pepper spray is not always good enough . And a knife won’t do anything unless you have some skill in fighting and self defense, but against two people you would need to already be a badass to have a knife be anything worthwhile. But a gun can stop one or two men, plus it’s loud and would bring attention just by shooting it . Im only going on and on like this because I have a sister and that shit scares me.

Do it. Sign up. It is important to take your safety into your own hands, and taking Control of your own health and well being is always a good thing. After the self defense class, my main suggestion isn’t to arm yourself (unless you have trained extensively and effectively in using that weapon AND are 100% sure that you could end another persons life), but rather to keep conditioning training and taking defense classes at regular intervals. The best way to protect yourself is to remain primed; the biggest advantage an average attacker has over you is not weaponry*, size, or strength; it’s the element of surprise. The few seconds they get is all they need to take the W. If you respond immediately, you are taking that element of surprise from them and turning it on them.
*obviously if you’re in like a mass shooting or something, the element of surprise is a no brainer… in that case, just run, hide, and fight only if you have no other option at all.

I did not know she was waiting for that spot, and I would have moved if I’d known. She needed that spot more than I did, apparently. After she slapped me, as I was dialing the police, she drove off. I still got my shopping done. The situation stills bugs me, though, because I honestly had no idea she was waiting for the spot and I never would have taken it if I’d seen her. She appeared to be driving out of the aisle, turning right (not left, into the spot) and she did not have her directional on. I was a harried Junior High teacher with a 7 year old and a 2 year old in the back seat. Adult human beings know that the elderly are physically different from people in their 20s. We know that their balance isn’t as good, their muscles are weaker, they have less ability to react quickly to catch themselves when they fall, and their bones may also be weaker. On top of all that, the elderly tend to have some pre-existing conditions hat can cause even further problems when they fall. This is why as a culture, we do not pick on the elderly. We try to protect them. We don’t bully them. I would argue that she knew that pushing and elderly person could cause more damage than pushing a 20 something person. I hope the jury takes that into consideration. She knew she had much more power over this woman and she used that to her advantage to harm knowing she couldn’t retaliate.

You have to know that shoving someone as hard as she apparently did could result in their death or at the least a very serious injury. The fact a person could do that for no reason, or some slight reason, is enough for them to be in prison for a long time. This isn’t stealing or getting into a fight with someone your own age. I remember seeing this story. My takeaway is that it's really important that we don't let bad moods, short tempers, or temporary states of mind allow us to engage in this kind of behavior. This woman was just in a bad mood but she made a decision under that state that changed her life forever and ended the life of someone else. She had a bad day, and her victim had an even worse one.
One bad day is the only thing that separates us from the prison and the morgue. Just remember that. We must maintain control. This kind of thing is not so different from road rage and lots of people have died or killed someone from not being able to control their emotions while driving.

"Ms. Pazienza had several glasses of wine and, after visiting a number of art galleries, took a meal purchased from a food cart into Manhattan’s Chelsea Park, a block from where the assault would then take place. When a Parks Department employee told Ms. Pazienza that she would have to leave the park because it was closing soon, she grew irate and shouted and cursed at him. She then turned and, for reasons unexplained, threw her food on to her fiancé and stormed out of the park." After that, while heading toward the subway, Pazienza inexplicably rushed across the street and shoved Gustern.

I have to say - I am so blessed to have found this channel and be part of this audience. Someone commented on being sober 60 days and glad to be listening to Dr. Grande again. I always tell my friends about Dr. Grande's channel - not just because of the awesome content of the videos but because of the audience. It's so nice to be in touch with a group of people who don't have rude and nasty comments because we do not agree with each other. It's also nice to be part of this audience because if someone mentions a personal achievement such as getting sober or any other achievement the whole audience has to mention how proud they are. Positivity ALL around. Thank you for letting me be a part of this channel.

If someone wrote this woman as the villain character into a comic book the story editors would reject it as too unbelievable and over-the-top evil. I keep expecting to hear that before she pushed the old lady she had just come from spitting on orphans, and was on her way to kick puppies. And I have to think that whatever time she spends incarcerated will have to be done pretty much exclusively in segregation from the general population, because that will be the only way to keep a prison sentence from turning into capital punishment.

Due to the fact that she also had a physical altercation with her boyfriend, she was probably already fighting with her boyfriend which caused her level of anger to stew within her. She had no right or reason to assault another human… Not her boyfriend, and certainly not this poor woman who probably did beat her to the cab. Lauren probably immediately regretted her actions, but not because she hurt the woman, but because she was in trouble. I agree that 12 years is fitting, as well as a master’s level series of course work in anger management and civility.

I agree & I get the feeling her fiancé is only still with her at the moment because that fight immediately after was probably Lauren telling him what she did & blaming it all on him for upsetting her beforehand. He probably feels guilty which is why he helped her get home that night & hide after, because she may have convinced him that he would be in trouble too. I read an article I think in the NY Post where someone described her boyfriend as very nice & gentle but that he seemed afraid of Lauren because she was so manipulative towards him. It wouldn’t surprise me if she manipulated him immediately after into thinking he was in trouble too & he had to help her. And since he didn’t get in trouble she’s probably telling him how unfair it is that they’re only going after her & letting him off the hook. Like “oh so you got off scot free for something that was your fault & now you wanna leave me?” I could totally picture that craziness.
