Love this! Each shelf has so many fun things to look at. Favorite was the Lord of the Rings section. Love the color that you painted the bookcases. Perfect for your room.

😍😍😍 The bookshelf came out gorgeous! The color of it goes so well with that corner of your room. I love all the different cubby holes. My favorite though will have to be the knight one. That picture in the back (I can't remember what you called it) is so beautiful. It really caught my eye. ❤ Also it has the Lord of The Rings books and those are some of my favorites. I hadn't heard of Jasper Fforde. I immediately went to the public library apps, but there is a wait list so...I used an Audible credit. I like to listen to books too. I am older and can't see well anymore. I used to read all the time and get into trouble for neglecting other things. Now I listen to the book while I do the other things.
I love collecting books, but I mostly listen to them. So if there's a book I love but not the cover, and cant re-cover, I can always turn them around with pages out. It still suits the aesthetic.

I loved your use of light within the bookcase - the taper candle next to the knighting portrait is just perfect. Next time I'm redecorating my bookshelf I'll need to consider more battery candles (I have tons of wax candles, but I'm pretty sure horrible things would happen if I lit them while on the shelf.) How deep is the bookshelf? You've been able to make a lovely layered look in each cubby.

So fun to find out you're from my home city of Sacramento! We moved to Phoenix years ago and cannot recommend the Arizona Renaissance Festival enough! Definitely go at the beginning of the season (early February) to beat the heat 😊
Coming to the party late, but in my defense I was clearing out my mother's house so we can sell it XD And in that house, my sister and I found SO much stuff, little knickknacks and containers and several picnic baskets... And I'm going to have to figure out how to thoroughly clean and cleanse things, and then I get to incorporate them into my own space where suitable lol So this video could not have come at a better time. I managed to salvage my TARDIS blue paint and will definitely be using it, but I also really am interested in the green paint you used. Also thank you for the rec on painting the furniture - I've not painted anything larger than a picture frame in a WHILE so I'll try to remember the crosshatching when I tackle the furniture...
As a side note, with the amount of detailing on the bookshelf, have you considered distressing it a bit? I think it would really let those rosette designs pop (plus if you used like gold rubnbuff you could tie in the color with the very cute handles you added) and add more interest to the shelves themselves (obviously the shelf decor is fabulous though).
I'd never heard of Milanote before, but I think it'll be very useful when we finally get to move out of our apartment. I had a notebook at one time that was basically the physical version, but I think having a digital one would be a lot easier to reference lol
I actually had plans to distress the shelves but just ran out of time before the video was due and I had to hurry up the process lol - but will definitely add little bits of detail here or there. The rubnbuff idea is a great idea, I did that on the bench upcycle last year and it looks great so I’ll have to do that too on the shelf.
Those bookcases turned out great! I am years away from having a home of my own, but I dream of the day I can properly display all of my books. They are currently cramped together in 5 bookcases in my bedroom (+ around 5 cardboard boxes in storage). I think I will need an entire library to display them all nicely.

@@DressMeUpScotty I buy local so it is more a need to find it at a store that delivers in PDX, then finding it online.
@@catherineleslie-faye4302 FB marketplace is mostly local listings, like Craigslist but with less scams. You can technically see stuff out of area but furniture is set to local pickup at least for me. I also use it to sell my furniture when I need to get rid of stuff.

I've been trying to find bookcases for DVD storage at thrift stores and have had zero luck, so it's not just you
For the candles I just leave them on day and night. I got them in November and it I just changed them beginning of May. They do start to dim but then I just turn the batteries off. yes, they are on during the day but you don't really notice. At night when we come into the house its heavenly. The batteries are easy to come by and I just buy in bulk and on sale when able.

I used to be more of an avid reader but I’ve gotten older my focus isn’t as good lol. But I do tend to listen to the books I collect on Audible or Libby. I’ve listened to Hitchhikers twice now 😂 onto Dune next because the movies) then LOTR and the Hobbit.

Lol for real. I started so many books and abandoned them so many times. I was always an all or nothing reader. I either jumped ship immediately within a few chapters or I didn’t sleep until I finished it in one sitting 😂
@@DressMeUpScotty I tried to be the opposite of my sister and she was a reader. But then in high school I found Sarah Dessen books and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and fell in love with reading.
Just an idea for maybe your next video.. what are the states you guys have dreamed of moving to? My guess is Oregon or Colorado! Am I right?
We talked about it a bit in a Q&A we did a while back. Honestly, we lean more towards the east coast if we can find a nice quaint area with lower cost of living so we can raise a family. Though we love Colorado when we visit for faire, it is so expensive to live there. Rent/housing prices are insane. Oregon has similar issues since a lot of people are leaving Cali but want to stay on the west coast.
I have 2 big bags of donations that have been waiting for me to get on with it and donate already for a handful of months myself, lol, the struggle is real.

Totally not the point of the video, but are you aware of the Renfaire happening in Mariposa on the 1st and 2nd of June? It's two hours away for me and I live in Stockton, so it might be a bit too far for you. There's also the Shasta faire happening this weekend that would be much closer for you.

I love books and stories but my ADHD has gotten worse over the years (where I start and forget to finish, or I get antsy and can’t sit still) so now I’m an avid audio book listener. But I like having the physical copies.
