    Quality as always Andrew. Great advice to many I'm sure, and the honesty of the issue invaluable information. Hope you get to the magic 10k in due course; channel Volkswizard is part of my staple diet, as it is for many others.

    Just did this job on my TT - this video was a huge help cheers! I ordered some new undertray clips like you did which was a life saver because the old ones were corroded beyond recognition. Crikey accessing the filter was awkward, you made it look easy! You can barely turn the filter one turn at a time. Like you I used a 3rd party Haldex oil cartridge which didn't fit properly - luckily I bought a stash of spare caulk gun tips which I was able to cut to size which worked great. I put a copper washer on the drain/fill plug because I have OCD tendencies but I'm sure it would've sealed fine without. The oil was also put in the freezer for a while before using which made it less runny, which gives you a few extra milliseconds to put the plug back in. Thanks again!

    Hi Andrew I really appreciate you taking your time to educate us car guys on how to do things properly, but only 1 problem for me was whatever you were trying to show us with the camera it was always just a tad short and couldn’t see what you were pointing at I caught myself even moving my phone up as if I was in control of your camera. I’ve only just realised through a different video the difference between the Quattro full 4x4 and the Haldex being a 2 wheel drive most of the time and only 4 wheel drive when it senses slipping. I’m new to your channel just subbed because WE car guys do NEED other people’s input,advise, honesty etc so please keep the vids coming thanks SCOOBS (Wales).

    It’s folk like you that can keep these cars on the road. Once cars are worth very little, they stop being serviced properly, which is a death sentence for sophisticated cars. Sad that.

      Hi David, too true. It's not an expensive job on parts but it is a little tricky for DIYers to do because of the position and you can imagine many will just ignore. Good specialists are the answer who should be able to do the best job for the least cost but they are few and far between.

    Good video again,, informative as always, only difficulty I would have, because I don’t have a ramp, is the length of the tube and and the caulking gun combined, wether I can get the car high enough, perhaps it’s time to redesign the caulking gun🤔, but I am going to give it a try.

      When Wheeler Dealers featured a MK1 TT I remember Ed using what looked like a long socket extension as a plunger inside the oil cartridge (effectively making a long syringe) to fill the coupling, should make it a few cm shorter than a caulking gun which may help you, great video Andrew, looks like a lovely example you have low miles too, love the spec (blue hood?)

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  5 лет назад

      Good tip Peter, thanks. I've used a caulking gun for years & due to the fiddly process, I don't want to change now, but can imagine you can push it through manually which is easier on the ground as it's oil not gloopy sealant which you normally find in these tubes. Had to check but it's got a black hood. It's for sale at www.volkswizard.co.uk BTW 👍

      volkswizard, thanks for the link, car looks fantastic, they really got it right with the mk1, have to be a roadster for me just a toss up between an early car with baseball trim or one of the later 3.2 cars like this, think the engine, box and the fabulous Ronal’s would sway towards the latter.
      One thing I like about these (and 4 motion Golf’s) is that with some autosol / brasso and wire wool the back box can be polished to a lovely almost brushed aluminium finish, gives the rear of the car a really clean look

      Found some 45 degree silicone sealant nozzle adapters on ebay, could be possible to do this on jack stands at home with those. Will try it soon myself.

  • @whoisgoogle

    Tbh you really don't need a caulking gun. It takes far too much time and it's just pointless honestly .
    Just use a long thin spanner or long screw driver to drive the oil in.
    wedge the tip into the drain hole, and with one swift shove, squeeze the haldex oil in one go, then with your other hand quickly swap over the spent oil cartridge with the sump plug .
    It's far too much faff using the caulk gun!!!

    • @Haldexify
      @Haldexify 5 лет назад

      I will try it this way this weekend. Hope I am strong enought to push the oil through.

    • @whoisgoogle
      @whoisgoogle 5 лет назад +1

      @@Haldexify you'll be fine. It squirts out with no effort at all.
      Just make sure the tip is pressed into the haldex drain hole tightly and then just squish the oil in using a long spanner or long screw driver , longer than the actual haldex oil tube of course.
      Just squish it in one motion, it takes no effort at all.
      Have the drain plug ready nearby so u can pull out the spent haldex tube and switch over with the drain plug.
      That or use your finger to plug the hole whilst you grab the drain plug.
      I find it easier to have the correct socket preattatched to the drain plug as it's easier to turn with oily hands!
      Also if you are working off jack stands then you won't have much room to work with, so in that case you will find it easier to put a tiny 45 degree kink into the haldex fill nozzle. Just give it a gentle bend, it will still work just fine as this is how I've done it on my car for past 15 years of ownership!

      @@whoisgoogle Thank you very much for the guideline! Appreciate it. Read it in details. I have changed the haldex oil before but not on jack stands. Do I understand correctly that I should gently bend the plastic fill nozzle?

    • @whoisgoogle

      @@Haldexify bending the haldex fill nozzle is only required if you are working off jack stands as you'll be struggling for room.

      This video shows you don't need a caulking gun. Just a long pole to squish the oil in , in one go!
      But if you're working with limited space then you'll need to lightly bend the full nozzle. Depends if you have the luxury of a proper car ramp or not !

  • @Polydeukes68

    Very helpful video, now I know how its done. Couple of observations though: in most parts of the video you managed to point the camera to something else than what you were trying to show. So, you are pointing or describing something but its out of frame. Maybe a tripod or something instead of hand holding it? Next thing: you can and you should check before starting to pump the oil if the nozzle is a good fit. If its not cut until it is. They are sold to various makes and models and its not one size fit all kind of a thing. And lastly: when you are pumping and then reinserting the plug you are standing in bad position where you cannot see and its difficult to do it as a right hander. You should have stood somewhere between the camera and the haldex and it would have been much easier. Obviously the camera should have been positioned elsewhere. Tip on the undertray clips is golden, too late to think about it when you are under there and everything crumbles into dust. Thanks!

  • @RobsCars

    Not sure why you are complaining about the Ravenol. Its not only VAG cars that have a Haldex unit... Volvo, Vauxhall, Saab...to name but a few. Would it not have been easier checking the tip diameter against a previous car you have already serviced, would it have been possible to unscrew the VAG tip and fit it on the Ravenol tube, or attach a silicone hose to the end at the correct diameter? I think its a bit unfair on Ravenol to criticise them especially when you consider the product it over 70% cheaper?
    Anyway its nice to see someone showing how to service these units. Specialists want £350 to service my 9-3 TurboX Gen4 (XWD) Haldex & Diff... I can get all the oils, filters, gaskets etc. for under £100. So I might attempt at crushing myself. :D
