Hey! I'm glad my chart is able to help out other players as well. However i do believe i have to set some things clear in these calculations. Yes 1* seems very more efficient at first, but that is only because you barely get any resonance from it. You get 15 resonance in the first upgrade and that only costs 1 GP and so it goes on. But if you were to put the resonance gained from a 5* (lets say 2/5) from 1 to 2, you would receive in perspective to the resonance you gain from upgrading a 1* with the same amount of GP, then the 5* will yield MORE resonance. Example: rank 1 to 2 upgraded 5* 2/5 gets you 110 resonance in total. To get a 1* to give you 110 resonance you would have to upgrade it to rank 7 (Rank 7 1* Gem gives 105 resonance). To upgrade the 1* to rank 7 needs 78 GP whereas a 5* 2/5 from rank 1 to 2 requires only 50 GP. What does that mean? In my calculation the "Overall reso to GP" are very important. Always compare the gems resonance and then the overall gp to resonance, which will then tell you where you will get the most resonance for the GP invested. Also very important note: I took all the duplicates and basically converted them to GP (meaning a 5* duplicate is 32 GP added to the cost of upgrading) for simplification. Obviously it also depends on which gems you want and how much they cost on your server. So my recommendation if you want resonance: If you find a 5*, upgrade it. However, if you prefer magic find and the abilities, maybe think of focusing 1* and 2* first, especially some S-Tier gems like berzerk.

I always tell them to just use it to upgrade their 1 or 2 star gems.. realtalk, we can't really upgrade a 2/5 lego to at least rank 3. (Even rank 2 is difficult for us) It's great that you did not sugar coat it for us f2p players.. good job mate!
I can’t believe we’re having conversations about this. Like, in some universe the outrageous cost in time and money to get 5 star gems upgraded is nauseating. And content creators are moving the narrative forward like it’s not big deal. It’s sad, and Blizzard should do more for their community. I had a bottled hope but ditched it for a power and command as getting a damage boost every 20 seconds didnt seem as good as having a pretty much constant 10+% damage increase constantly. Also allot cheaper to hit the MF level and help with gear finding/CR climb.
Blessing of the worthy is raised in combo with the frozen heart,.. for frozen explosion.., like bile is raised together with petrified lasque for control + explosions..,
I really recommend going for howler or hope 3 stars for 50k. Depending on class chip of stone flesh is huge value for super cheap as well. It's great to get a jade or bile, but 2/5 isn't great and not so worth it to upgrade.
For dh...I like gloom bile jade...then bloody reach pain clasp and Carson's....although I use a.haunting hawlers call...I got all of them except chip stone flesh

You should forget all 1 and 2 stars. If you get a 5 star gem it will make a lvl 10 1 star gem obsolete in just a couple upgrades. However, use and upgrade gems with no worry because the gem upgrades are additive so you keep all essences Edit: but the magic find though? I don’t know. Time will tell in that one for me
Man...drop rates of all items seem super nerfed since patch. Ran 6 rare Elder rifts last night, and got zero rewards. Not seen a single leg or set item either. If Blizzards goal is to run off even the most dedicated players, then they are succeeding.🙄

2/5 star are about 15k cheaper than 3/5 star on my server so i feel like getting the 2/5 to start is better, and hope to get a duplicate with a crest later that will increase the number of stars

Price part is good. I have the similar calculations. As for part which gems are good and which are not, you does not seem to be correct in most cases. Chip of the stoned flesh is the cheapest 4star. Got one for 73k plat. Cutthroat grin is useless as not being stable. Gems that give plus damage are better than ones giving percentage. Plus damage is not affected by difficulty. And so more.
I just crashed my rank 5 phoenix ashes and used it as gem power to upgrade 1* gems berserkers eye and carsons to rank 10... And i don't regret at all 🤟
Good analysis, thats what I did im running lightning core bloody reach carsens berserker BSJ and bottled hope. I have to disagree with seeping bile though yes it works wonders in pve but trash in pvp when ur not whaling bile the damage tick is meh in pvp plus procing any type of shield buff which most class have when on pvp load out would allow you to bandage without waiting for seeping bile tick to end. One more thing with this in mind whales running all 5 star solely for resonance they didnt have all damage modifiers that a 1star and 2 star gem can provide. Plus the 1star and 2star awakening that we can get when we get them to 10 is a big advantage. Im currently at 1.4 resonance but i always on bg top 1 to 3 with others below me at 3k 4k+ up reso. I play necro, and got my first 5/5 star off a rift today. Phoenix of Ashes...seeing a 5/5 shocked me, and base it is 100 resonance. Should I level it or leave it? I have seeping bile drop 2/5, blessing of worthy 2/5, howler 2/5 and frozen heart 3/5. Seems I can't fill out the 5 star gems? That alone has me ready to delete this game...

Since you've already got a 3* gem you won't need anymore 3* gem dups so sell it and buy a 2* hope instead. However if you do get a 4* hope you could use that to upgrade your 3* to a 4* hope when you do rank up.
Veiled I need some help, I got carson and berserker at rank 7, power & command, bloody reach, fervent fang and lightning core all rank 3. Blessing of the worthy is literally worthy to upgrade because: It’s not expensive in price, gives you damage reduction and damage about your life and you got packs in the shop of the game about this gem..,
Are you aware of a fervant fang gem bug I tried to get it to lvl 4 and unlike my power and command when I went to use craft materials to create the level three of the gym it just said I didn't have any of them
Dont forget about fervant fang. its arguably from a damage standpoint the best gem in the game. it is harder to obtain though. I think the only 2 star gems that have to be in every buils is seeping and blood soaked as well. For a 3rd def zwensons haunting. People are sleeping on that gem. it is massive good in high level cr's 90+ cause the aoe damage as along as you have a 4 star or above like you said. i think 4 gems should be in every build. Fervant fang, berserkers, blood soaked and seeping. after that pick 2 that cater to your playstyle. for me i use a channeling build so i use a rank 10 trickshot gem. for dh's carsons is great or any class that uses primary attacks mostly. for summoners then the summoner ones.

IME gold is only needed for upgrades and the amount is the same as a handful of rolls of the dice at Yakin's and the frequency of lego upgrades becomes more infrequent as you progress. other than that, you have the inconsequential listing fees when selling at the market and then gambling at Yakin's which is where the vast majority of my gold is spent. for a currency that is given as a reward in many circumstances from bounties to killing mobs, it's so very close to being useless

i purchased a zwensons 3/5 for 32k yesterday, instead of a 2/5 bile for 38k (big mistake) ive spend maybe £35 total, battlepass ect and got 6 total eternal crests from the orbs i got with the cheap chests, which gave me 2 pheonix ashes 2/5 (25k after taxes), 1 2 star and 3 1 star gems which went on the market, should of gone for a 2/5 seeping bile but i do have 1 pheonix ashes still for sale in the market so i will be getting that next once that sells, problem is what to drop for the bile ? and do i scrap the dropped gem to upgrade something ??? im playing a necromancer (par104) with full summon and dark curse/bone armour and i have bloody reach r4(53gp) followers burdon r3(24gp) echoing shade r1(32gp) beserkers eye r8(110gp) freedom and devotion r5(32gp) and zwensons haunting 3/5 r1(32gp)
I’m a low spender and I have 4 3/5 star gems. My long term goal is getting them to rank 4. The two star gems are boring imo. My other two gems are rank 10 1 star.

In terms of resonance rank 2 has so much more res per gem cost than 1 star,. And in this game res>all so imo if you can have rank 2 they are better even with worse attributes
Berserkers & deadly reach arent "straight damage multipliers", theyre additive with the other similar effects ie skill dmg, dmg vs low life enemies, dmg at full life, dmg vs undead, dmg vs elites
Lets use blessing of the worthy as an example, and I have it at 2 star. Why wouldn't someone just level blessings to rank 9, then use a 5 star copy to get it to rank 10, and then they would have a rank 10, 5 star blessings of the worthy
So, watched the whole video.. seens lots of stats.. and still don't know what to do first .. second ... 3rd. I guess I will try to watch it a second time.
This was meant as a general strategy guide, but after I went over the stats and the way to upgrade, I mentioned specifically the 5 star gems that I would recommend that you upgrade. I also mentioned some 1 and 2 stars.
That's why I included the platinum costs, because you absolutely can buy it. Assuming players have been playing for the past couple weeks, you will easily have earned enough to pick up those gems. (there are some outliers it terms of server markets of course)

My BSJ 5/5 at RK 4 gives 96 CR, 13.5% increased damage at full, 6.75% at low health, movement speed 10%, and 2% decreased damage while under 50% life.

I think Fervant Fant is quite good! It just takes a little while to upgrade due to it being time locked.

don't burn the fang it is battle pass only gem

15k is quite cheap considering at rank 1 you over double your resonance.

I have Fervent Fang at rank 5, it's not hard at all to make it to rank 5.

I spent about 125$ and I have 927 resonance , I use only two five star gems , I have a 2 star rank 2 jade and a 4 star rank 3 bile

Cheapest way is probably to get 3-4/5 star gems that aren’t the most popular. Rank those up a few times and you have well over 1000 resonance

is it important though? IME gold is only needed for upgrades and the amount is the same as a handful of rolls of the dice at Yakin's and the frequency of lego upgrades becomes more infrequent as you progress. other than that, you have the inconsequential listing fees when selling at the market and then gambling at Yakin's which is where the vast majority of my gold is spent. for a currency that is given as a reward in many circumstances from bounties to killing mobs, it's so very close to being useless

If anyone can answer this? I have a lighting gem, lvl 5, they say a 3 and a five to upgrade. I have both, but it won’t let me upgrade🤷♀️. It says I need a 5. But I have one! I’m using it! They’re unlocked. Thanks if anyone can help!
i purchased a zwensons 3/5 for 32k yesterday, instead of a 2/5 bile for 38k (big mistake) ive spend maybe £35 total, battlepass ect and got 6 total eternal crests from the orbs i got with the cheap chests, which gave me 2 pheonix ashes 2/5 (25k after taxes), 1 2 star and 3 1 star gems which went on the market, should of gone for a 2/5 seeping bile but i do have 1 pheonix ashes still for sale in the market so i will be getting that next once that sells, problem is what to drop for the bile ? and do i scrap the dropped gem to upgrade something ???

I’m a low spender and I have 4 3/5 star gems. My long term goal is getting them to rank 4. The two star gems are boring imo. My other two gems are rank 10 1 star.

The crests are better value, but it’s very luck based because if you get the correct duplicate it will save you a bunch.
I just got my 5th gem to level 5 and I’m at 75% magic find.
In terms of resonance rank 2 has so much more res per gem cost than 1 star,. And in this game res>all so imo if you can have rank 2 they are better even with worse attributes
That's just not true.
Berserkers & deadly reach arent "straight damage multipliers", theyre additive with the other similar effects ie skill dmg, dmg vs low life enemies, dmg at full life, dmg vs undead, dmg vs elites
They are, as those others are also “straight damage multipliers” because we’re talking about DAMAGE as in the actual stat.
Lets use blessing of the worthy as an example, and I have it at 2 star. Why wouldn't someone just level blessings to rank 9, then use a 5 star copy to get it to rank 10, and then they would have a rank 10, 5 star blessings of the worthy
Got 2 x lvl5 1/1 and 2 x lvl5 2/2 as 52P. Time for the 2/5s.
Also when I calculated the CR per GP I added the cost of the gem to GP. So a lvl1 2/5 counted as 32 GP and a lvl1 3/5 counted as 42 GP on my server.
This is good but not definite. These costs only pertain to your server. Some servers will be more or less plat cost wise.

I just calculated it's. it's $880 to get a 5/5 out of the market, at 640,000 plat. divide that plat by 7,200 orbs (=$100) is about $880

This was meant as a general strategy guide, but after I went over the stats and the way to upgrade, I mentioned specifically the 5 star gems that I would recommend that you upgrade. I also mentioned some 1 and 2 stars.

That's why I included the platinum costs, because you absolutely can buy it. Assuming players have been playing for the past couple weeks, you will easily have earned enough to pick up those gems. (there are some outliers it terms of server markets of course)
