  • Some footage from a church choir in Aylesbury England from the late 1940s. This is produced by Dawn Trust films which was created by the Rev. Brian Hession in the late 1930s. In 1938, Hession obtained the rights to the 1912 classic Sidney Olcott film, "From the Manger to the Cross", and this service from the Trinity Church, Walton, Aylesbury in the late 1940s uses footage from this film as a backdrop to the Christmas Carol "While Shepherds Watch".
The Rev. Hession championed both film as a means of spreading a the Christian message, and the cause of cancer sufferers....in his life he was given three days to live after a colon cancer diagnosis in 1954, yet lived another 7 years after this (1909 - 1961).
True Christian symbols of Christmas have fallen from fashion in the West...here is an example of how it was celebrated without irony some 70 years ago.
Sorry the film is a bit rough...the overlay text jitters in the original footage, and I think the poor contrast between text and background occurs because tone has been lost during the various reproductions of the 1912 film required to create this edit.
No further credits appear in the film than are shown here.
