All of y’all’s videos are so awesome. I really enjoy the hunting and fishing videos but the ghost town videos, the old water park video the old mining town videos and now the Schmidt tunnel video is so cool. Thank you for bringing all of this to the American public. Actually, to the world again, God bless you Senior, for raising your family right in the outdoors, and thank you for influencing the next generation to get out and enjoy the outdoors.
Living in Mojave, it is nice to see you guys out in the old family stomping grounds. Would enjoy meeting you all sometime. As a member of desert search and rescue, you do need water and need to be careful out there.

@shaneralls1 - I second all you said! Great folks, great channel!
Great job! I love your history videos 😊
Mining Engineer here -- So those veins you stumbled into at 12:00 are *EXACTLY* what you want to see when prospecting for precious metals. Not sure if there was gold in those specific veins you found, but it definitely looked like there were some green copper minerals there for sure - and copper frequently occurs alongside silver and gold in mineral veins.
Fascinating channel here, thanks for sharing!!
My mans, the comment I was looking for👏🏻👏🏻 I feel like he found a little bit of ore and was determined to find the “mother load “ and went gold crazy, that was his motivation to keep digging
I love this channel!!! Came for lake mead and stayed for the rest👍
It was estimated that he had moved 5,800 tons (5,260 metric tonnes) of rock with just a wheelbarrow to complete his tunnel. That, my friends, is one helluva man!💪
Thanks for sharing this fascinating story.
Don't make "MEN" like that anymore. 😔
@@dorothylewis1207😂😂😂 maybe you just look in the wrong places. We are out there but we aren't at bars and clubs. We are busy building tunnels. Some of us aren't attractive so we get looked over but trust and believe there are plenty of men like this still around. Most of us have went silent.
@@MykeHunts Good to hear, if I were young (again) I would GRAB ya! 😊🥰😇
@@dorothylewis1207ask my wife she will disagree with your view.
Did you consider expansion of the rock? Cubic yard is after blowing it up is now almost a cubic yard and a half or so
I was a caretaker at Bickel Camp for six months . Loved every second of it. Walter Bickel and Burro Schmidt were neighbors and assisted each other on a daily basis. Walter Bickel would harden the steel chisels for Burro. He also taught Burro how to use dynamite!
My dad needed to get gas near red rock canyon and he saw the poster about the human mole, asked the gas station clerk about it and he gave him directions to get there. He would take all us kids up there, his wife was still alive she would give a tour for a donation. Good times. No one really knew about the place so it was very exclusive. We went to red rock every year. Miss those days.
Old guys rule! ❤
Thank you for finding these little tidbits to explore... love your channel, guys! 🏜🏜🏜
My boys....let's get it. Lol. Always a pleasure seeing these guys. Great informative videos.😊☺️💯🔥👍🤩💜
Smoke one!
Thank you so much. living in NY you give me history and geography. stay safe!!!
Sin City family, I got to say that I really enjoy your Lake Mead updates, but THESE old time stories and legends, man, you guys can make great content out of it. Kudos to you for these very interesting vid!!
I appreciate younger people when they appreciate the history of days gone by. Great job bro.
Discovered this in 1975. There was an old, eccentric woman who lived nearby who had old bathtubs all over her property. If you brought her a duck or goose from a city park, she'd make you a meal and let you stay overnight. We were 18 and she was a real trip (as we said back.then). Great video. Thank you.
Great start to a weekend in 🇩🇰
The green is copper.
Been to Burro Schmidts mine many times. Always had a large dog leading the tour. I learned how to swim in a Sheep spring as sheep herders still come through every year herding sheep. If you time it right, you can see them off of 395. So, search that out. Can you imagine herding sheep through this beautiful desert.
Very smart to travel there with Dog, I was thinking--- Rattlesnakes!
I did that Tunnel in the late 70's . Interesting place . Thanks for sharing and the memories !
I really appreciate how family friendly and wholesome your videos are. So cool to see the healthy interest in exploring and the bonding between y'all. God Bless you and stay safe.
Great video ❤ I understand him. Once I start a project I’m going to follow through. I don’t know how he felt, but quitting is not optional for me, most times. I just feel the need to finish what I start.❤🙏🏻❤️
Fascinating story guys as well as the missing ore he dug out cool tunnel it sort of reminds me of the opal fields down here where people mostly live underground because of the harsh climate. Thanks for posting & stay safe guys.
Junior is a fantastic presenter... always interesting commentary with no notes to read from. Dude, you have a bright future!
Dude, coolest video I’ve seen on RUclips hands down! I haven’t seen any of your other content yet, but I think You’re an impressive young man to be out there telling stories of people who lived before us! This man’s life can teach us a lot about perseverance and purpose. Thanks for sharing!
My guess would be he somewhat knew how far in he was based off the trek over the top. He could most likely pace it off on the inside and then over the top to get an idea of how far he was. Even still that's an amazing feat to complete!
Great video guys! Thank you from Ohio!
Found you guys from the Slab City video. For some young dudes you guys are a respectful bunch. Your dad did a really good job making you guys well rounded. That will serve you well in life. Props to Pops! Nice to see young folks interested in history and not acting dumb like so many social media people. You definitely got my follow. 👍
When i was living in vegas i always had a burning curiosity as to what the hell was out in those roads.
Thanks for this video .really cool stuff
The end of the tunnel looked like it was only a few feet under the top of the mountain? I do like the theory that he used that as an excuse to simply mine in peace under the guise that he was tunneling a shortcut through? I guess moral of the story would be, 38 years of digging is terrible for your back! Very interesting video. Thx Sin City!
Y’all are almost to 500K 🎉
Let’s go!
I think he was finding gold in there, mining it, and just telling people he wanted to go through that mountain, not around it. Just think about it. As hard work as it was, he continued after the road was built. He was mining in there! No doubt.
That’s kinda what I was thinking. He likely was somewhat motivated to get through the mountain, but he was definitely getting enough ore from that tunnel/mine to support himself and continue to do it. The last hundred yards or so was shear fucking will to make it to the other side though.
@@Kozycz im sure TNT wasn't super cheap either back in the day.
Someone who studies European history, this story truly encapsulates the American spirit of the time. A fascinating thought that, sure it's a fool hardy thing to do, but Schmidt's determination saw this tunnel actuelly finished. If only there was an in-depth journal or biography on this guy's life, to know his thoughts and such.
Your study of European history is worthless when looking at American history. And unless you’re American, your opinion on anything American is utterly worthless.
@@Kozyczwhat the hells your problem dude . Bet you’ve been stuck in your town your whole life
@@Kozycz, your a Biden supporter aren't you 😂
@@Kozyczim sure
Knowing the heritage and culture of a people that colonized a country is “worthless “ ? Lol not the brightest are you ? Or very nice either. Only thing worthless here is your rude comment.

Clown with a giant chip on his shoulder
Been through the tunnel as a kid in the 80s. My grandfather and uncle came down from North Dakota to accompany me and my father. One of those experiences I will never forget.
I appreciate you men hugely. That doesn't sound right. Why? I'm so close, a day trip away, from this tunnel. I can't do the day trip. Any day trip. Bad back. Really bad back for many decades now. No driving for me. Sitting is the worst. And no hunching over in the tunnel for me. So, thank you. I love traveling with you and never leaving home. Thank you. Jay from Stallion Springs. Neigh
12:34 You made Mr. Schmidt's ghost angry talking about how his quality of work diminished as he got older 👀
Love the vids guys🎣
I always look forward to seeing what you guys have in store for us. So far I haven't been disappointed. I appreciate it.
Looks to me like he was following a vein and he completed it, then he went back to dig where the veins split.
Ty u guys so much for the adventures that u go on. Unfortunately I won't be able to ever do them. B safe out there and happy fishing
Thank you for sharing the fruits of your curiosity!
Thanks for the video, love watching your video,s
A very articulate respectful young man! Already well versed in human nature and a treasure trove of information! KUDOS to all involved!! God Bless!!!!!
That area is called “Last Chance Canyon “. My dad took us kids to that area back in the 60’s and 70’s. I have seen the tunnel when there were tracks for the mine carts. Someone stole everything. It’s amazing how straight the tunnel is. If you walk the entire length, you can see the opening where you entered.
Once again you guys put out another great video and history lesson. Thanks again and keep them coming.
Gold my dear boy willmake men move mountains. I think you and your dad are on the right track, and also good find found something out in the Mojave that is new to me.
You guys find some pretty cool places to see heck ya you have to get some fishing in always guys good luck
Greetings from the BIG SKY. That's a long tunnel.
Another great banger of a video boys!! So cool that you do this stuff. Thanks!
So glad to see Sneako doing wholesome & informative content now. Great video!

Good work as usual guys. Thanks!
You guys are becoming my go to channel for history. Thank you so much
Awesome story! Thanks for telling/showing it!
I love the story. Thanks guys for bringing this to life.
Had a long day at work. This was actually pretty relaxing. Took me away for a bit.
Rest up bro
Really cool video man. When I was a kid, I was fascinated with digging holes. Never tried to dig through granite. It's a smart person who comes up with their own therapy in adulthood.
Great video of your exploration of the tunnel built by Mr. Schmidt. He was a very courageous and determined man. Thanks for taking us along for the exploration.
Thanks again for the family adventure. Bring me and the rest of your fam along next time!
Dope Video Fam. Peace GOD Bless
Thanks guy's, I've always heard about that tunnel and have always wanted to see it. This was a great video. Just go's to show you what determination can do. Thanks again guy's can't wait for the next one.
I saw an old outhouse that was full of rattle snakes. LOL
I found a whitetail deer leg in the middle of a local disc golf course a couple months ago 🤣
Thanks guys for the adventure enjoyed very much John from San Jose California
Maybe that turn off to the side was where he stored his dynamite. A lot of mine dig out small side tunnels to store the dynamite in them.
It's so kool he had a goal and finished. So many today would get sidetracked 10 feet in and give up. The older generations were just built different.
That sure was a cool little story with big forever history🌟⛏️ I love this story and his old homestead❤️ His tunnel is so remarkable💯
Good to see you guys out and about.thanks for letting us ride along. Till next time.
Great video guys, always a great day with a Sin City upload. Happy friday!!!! 🎉
This was fun! You two are great storytellers and tour guides!
These guys are great they get me out of the house when I can't❤

This is so cool! You guys have such a variety of topics and videos! Thank you so much!!
I almost skipped right by you. I love archeology and history and then I see a kid in my eyes and immediately thought "Oh great". Good thing I don't go by initial impressions. You did a great job documenting this and just got a subscriber. Keep it up.
Awesome Video! Right up my alley! History and historical people and places. You Vatos keep up the Greatest of work: Highlighting God's Creation. 🙌🏼🤘🏼💪🏼🙏🏼

Great job guys, God bless your adventures
Thanks for an enjoyable video. Stay safe and happy. Gary
What an interesting story. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Enjoyed the field trip 👍😃
Grew up in Ridgecrest. Used to go out to the tunnel occasionally. Remember some folks living in that house, they sold snacks and sodas. Wonder what happened to them. They kept the place in order. Think there was a well there too. Great video!
the Woman who lived there was "Burro's" grand Niece. Her name was Toni Seegar.
She lived in the house She built out there, and Schmidt lived in the auxillary building next to it. The equipment sheds were torn apart by the vandals from the Motorcycles, after Toni passed away. I first went out there when my Dad was an officer at the then new China Lake called NOTS then. My Dad would take his three sons out Chuckar hunting, and exploring in 1953-1956 while we were stationed out there. Schmidt found several gold strikes and that was how he made his living along with working on the railroad in Saltdale, and cowboying in Red Mountain at Blacks Ranch. The tunnel has collapsed several times. And the entrance used to be down by the buildings. I have been going out to the ElPaso Mtns for almost 70 years, and know of MANY ore mines, adits, and settlements like Goler Gulch, and Holland Camp, Colorado Camp, and Ricardo, which is now the state park campground.
