Patagonia is one of the rare untouched regions of our planet. The diverse marine life in the two oceans around the southern tip of the continent is worth exploring, too.
Patagonia is its own unique and eccentric world! The amazing landscapes, the unique wildlife, the colossal glaciers, and the great treks that are available. Patagonia is an absolute paradise for outdoorsman and climbers! It has that "otherworldly" feel to it! Thanks for the video! The compressor is still on Cerro Torre!
Well, apparently Maestri left the compressor there as some kind of proof and since it weights more than 100 kg nobody carried it back. Thank you for your interesting comment about Patagonia. I agree with your description of this unique landscape.
You are right! Marc-Andre Leclerc managed to make the first solo ascent of Cerro Torre’s Corkscrew route in February 2015. That is a truly remarkable achievement. Tragically, in 2018 Leclerc was killed in an avalanche on the Mendenhall Towers in Alaska, contributing to the legend of Cerro Torre's curse. Some expert climbers prefer to use alternative techniques when rope climbing or abseiling, which reduces the tension on the hands and puts more weight on the feet. Of course, this is only an option for a short period of time before the cold weather starts effecting the fingers. Thank you for your comment. If you haven‘t watched yet, you might also like our videos about the world‘s top 3 peaks, namely Mt. Everest, K2 and Kangchenjunga.
Cerro Torre is certainly one of the hardest mountains in the world to climb, and it held the title of THE most difficult until.Maedtri desecrated it by drilling bolts just below the summit. But I need to point out that most of the images you're showing here are NOT Cerro Torre and it's neighbouring oeaks, but Torres Del Paine, which are located approx 200 km due South. At the start of the film we see Cerro Torre, but at 00:32, the view is of Torres Del Paine and that continues for a few minutes. Then at 03:43 there are two men shown supposedly beginning to climb CT - the mountain shown here is NOT Cerro Torre, which is a sheer rock face, which projects basically directly up for 5000 feet, as the altitude at the base is already over 5000 feet. It's not difficult to see that the summit shown at 05:05 is vastly different from the one shown at 08:07 ( yes folks, this is actually Cerro Torre. How can you get this sooooo WRONG?
Thank you for your comment, however, you are mistaken. As clearly underlined in the narration, at 00:32 and in other stances before and after that timestamp the neighboring peaks of CT are shown, among them Mount Fitz Roy. As described in the drawing shown at 04:37 the route of those two climbers to the summit of CT led them parallel the right side of a minor peak called Egger-Torre. You mistakenly assume that Egger-Torre (at 05:05) is described in the video as the summit of CT. However, if you look closely you can see the outline of El Elmo behind a thick blanket of fog, which is the starting point of the final vertical rock climbing challenge to the summit of Cerro Torre. We recommend pausing the video at 05:07 to have a closer look at the background. At 07:06 the narration clearly indicates that the climbers' goal on that day was reaching El Elmo, not the summit of CT. After spending the night at El Elmo they initially planned to attempt climbing the steep wall on the next day. Due to the weather conditions, this plan was canceled!
@@nuovonovathegreatoutdoorsmaybe got off on the wrong foot there. I'm not saying that none of the footage is from CT, some of it certainly is. But rather than diss my comment, why don't you Google Torres Del Paine and look at the imagery, then you'll see where I'm coming from. Also Cerro Torre is Granite, and Vertical, the two climbers shown are NOT scaling any that resembles CT - look at the make up of the mountain, then compare. You don't need to answer me.
@@oldbutbeautiful have to agree with you. Can’t figure why they would show the peaks from Torres Del Paine, and the part where 2 people are supposedly climbing Cerro Torre, is definitely NOT Cerro Torre, as the rock type and gradient is totally different as you say. The part at 5:05 bears no resemblance to any of those peaks.
Simply spectacular. I wasn't aware of the dramatic beauty of Patagonia until I watched your video, thanks!

The mountaineer at 6:15 isn't wearing any gloves. Wow!
