Hi Bethany, i'm a true native New Yorker, born and raised in NYC. This is great advice you're giving to those considering, or moving to NYC. Especially about finding a pretty safe neighborhood to move too. One has to really do their research when it come to that!!!
I am trying to move to new york from Texas, but money is the biggest issue. have about $3000 saved up, but need about $3000 more just to be safe. Love the advice
I'm not planning to move to new york but this was so interesting, I especially liked the tip about writing down your values and what you don't want to change about yourself.
As someone who is considering a move to NYC, this video definitely brought light to the things that I didn't even think about. It was very informative and helpful, so just wanted to say a quick thank you! :))
I totally understand and respect the non-negotiables list, but I also think it could be a little restrictive of growth depending on how you do it. Like, for example, I don't smoke, have never smoked and don't really ever want to! So I guess that could be something that was on my list. But other than that one thing, I think I would want to go into a new experience holding onto my principles, but not completely dedicated to them not changing, because I could learn new things that change my perspective and make me change my mind. I just think growth is so important and it's not totally necessary to hold yourself to a past version of yourself, especially if it's not damaging to your health. I totally respect you for not cussing, for example, and I'm sure you have your own reasons and that's the right thing for you. But just as an example, I used to feel the same way, I was probably the very last person that I knew that started cussing, but now my perspective is different and I do it all the time. And I don't think that necessarily means that I've corrupted the past version of myself as that I've grown and changed, and it hasn't damaged my health! I can tell you that just for me, the reason I cuss now is that I think it's healthy for me to try not to take life too seriously (because I naturally do, and am big on morals and principles etc) and it's one way for me to express humour and lightheartedness. Again, wanna reiterate that I'm not criticising you because I know it's your prerogative and I respect that! Just sharing my opinion given that this is about advice for going into new experiences :)
I am getting ready to move to NYC in April/May so I've been watching a lot of moving to nyc videos...this was very informative and will add ya on soc.media
Same, Im from Dublin and every time I think of finances I feel sick and as soon as i can I'm getting a job in Tesco or something. I'm planning on moving with just like 2 suitcases. But Jesus it's scary. Sorry this was a proper rant Edit:sorry I realise this makes 0% sense
Tbh a lot of people I know who don’t curse sound more uneducated :/ I’d rather someone curse than have a vocabulary limited to: like, literally, stuff, and things
WHOa When I got to 6:35 and you mentioned your faith I was like yessssssss!!! I stumbled upon your video just for advice and didn't even expect that. So awesome. Sending you love! Hope NYC is treating you well and you are pursuing your purpose sis!
Thank you for making these videos! My husband and I are from Texas but we feel like God may be moving us to New York in the future. NEVER thought I would be saying that! These videos give such a great place to start for someone who has no idea!
Hi Bethany! My name is William, and I'm a 14 year old freshmen boy living in Great Falls, Montana, USA. Earlier this month, I went on a WorldStrides trip to DC and NYC. We were in DC for 4 1/2 days, and NYC for 2 1/2 days. Most of the time we spent in NYC was in Manhattan, which I will get to later. Prior to this trip, I haven't gone on a vacation in almost a decade. Here in middle of nowhere, Montana, there isn't much here (especially considering I've spent all 14 years of life here). Those 2 1/2 days in NYC changed my POV on everything. I graduate High School in June 2022, and I already have my planned departure set November 1st, 2022 (day after my dads birthday). Obviously, that date isnt confirmed being this far in advance, but let's pray 😁. Obviously, I'm sure you've noticed that I'm not going to college. My plan is to spend a year (or 2... or 10) in NYC, and join the United States Marines. That could change if I succeed in NYC. Obviously, unless I was a spoiled white kid, which I'm not, a high school graduate like me cannot afford Manhattan. I've been thinking that I want to move to the bronx, which is just north of Manhattan. I remember when we had just flown out of NYC, en Route to Montana, I remember looking out the window and seeing the Manhattan skyline, thinking in my head: "I'll be back." Long story short, I'm a 14 year old freshmen who wants to move to the Bronx when I graduate HS. I'm spending these 4 years of freedom (lol) planning everything. When I land in NYC, I'm hoping to already have an appartment and a few job interviews scheduled. These next 4 years I will spend saving money and planning. When I move, I plan on being a cheapo, and just bringing basics. I plan on bringing a few pairs of clothes (some for leisure, some for work) , a pan for cooking, and maybe a laptop. I will definitely be bringing a notebook, like yours in the video. Can you think of anything else? Thanks! -Will
I’m 15 and already saving for an apartment (1200 saved) :) because the plan is New York I absolutely love it and I have been going every year for about 4 or 5 years so, this is really helpful to plan ahead
I'm so grateful for this series you're doing! I'm planning on movie out to New York sometime next year and I'm really nervous about it. This was all fantastic advice! x
I've never seen one of your videos before this one and I automatically had to subscribe. I'm from Oklahoma and when I'm old enough and have the money I'm definitely moving to New York. I'm in love with the idea of it so I like to watch videos and do research on it all the time (I really want to be prepared for when I finally go). When I clicked into this video and saw all of the others to the side involving New York (that were also by you) I decided I had to watch all of your videos religiously. THANK YOU!!!
How crazy! I'm over here researching and planning on moving to NYC after I graduate this spring and then you said "before I moved from Oklahoma" small world.
Ok, I'm sorry, but, 'sound like you are educated'. Oh my goodness this is such an offensive thing to say, swearing isn't the sign of a limited vocabulary or of being educated at a low standard, these words ( when used correctly at the right time and place ) help put some emphasis in a situation, if you are in a bit of a sticky situation with someone and are having an argument these words can make the said person realize that this is the last straw. Stephen Fry, a great mind has talked about this topic and agrees with me, swear words or cuss words as you call them, are not a sign of a person's background or how they want to be seen, but a sign of the persons meaning.
I visited New York last week but I was only there for like 2 hours. The time I was there though it was beautiful I went through downtown ny and it was soooo packed holy crap talk about anxiety when driving. I was also in New Rochelle and that place was sooo nice I saw some pretty nice neighborhoods and beautiful houses. People know how to dress in New York it's pretty awesome. Wish I would have spent more time there, don't know if I'd live there though 🤔
I just came back few days ago from NYC from the 4th time visiting this amazing city and I can't stop falling in love more and more! My dream was always to move there and every time I come back I can't stop myself from being depressed that I can be there and live there now! Hopefully within a year I'll do it finally and move to my fav city ever. I'm not American so it won't be easy but I know that I'll do it. Thank you so much for the tips they were super helpful! I wish you all the best and hopefully see you soon in NYC :)
+Adi Amiel that's really cool that you've been able to come that many times though! I feel like most Americans haven't even been to New York that much. Hopefully you can move here soon though! It's a dream. All my best to you!
+Tiana Bender I only tried out two different ones but I liked them both! C3 Brooklyn in Williamsburg and Hillsong in union square and Times Square but they've recently moved to Hammerstein ballroom on 8th and 34th in Manhattan.
You are so awesome! I absolutely lovee these videos and have had a serious consideration to move over to New York. Hope you've been enjoying your time! I just stumbled across your channel and I love it!
going through some of your New York videos! How does your list of things you didn't want to change about yourself now compare to your life 1 year and 8 months later??
THANK YOU! I LOVE THE COMMENTS ON "NON-NEGOTIABLES"! VERY SOBERING…THE WORLD AND THE CULTURE HAVE THEIR "STANDARDS"…AND I HAVE MINE. I FOUND THAT TO BE THE MOST IMPORTANT PART FOR ME IN THIS GOLD MINE OF ADVICE. BROAD IS THE WAY THAT LEADS TO DESTRUCTION. WOW! THANK YOU.
Hello, so I am not from America but I’m thinking of trying to move to New York in order to get into book publishing. I’m also a Christian so I’m definitely still praying to find out what God wants 🙏🏻 thank you for your video though - I wanted to know if you had any advice for Christians specifically who are thinking of moving to NY ♡ God bless you 🌸
+Brandy Maney I would call a broker in the city! they are amazing with catering to your needs and finding a place that suits you and your family. I always used a broker when moving!
great video very informative. I admire your courage and views on things. I hear a lot of people say New York smells everywhere you go, is there any truth to that or are people over l exaggerating
+gv105468 thank you very much! I would say like 85% of the time NYC smells normal, but on trash day and when it gets super hot in the subway sometimes it smells, but to me it's not a big deal.
Any advice to a couple moving to NYC next year with a pitbull? Giving her away is non-negotiable. I’ve been searching around and waiting on responses from groups and such. I’m just waiting for someone to respond. We need places that we can move to.
hmm I’m not sure. a lot of places actually do allow dogs though. it just makes rent more expensive and there is usually a $600 (ish) pet payment when you sign the lease.
yeah, people either prefer to be super close to everything with no commute at all, but spend a lot in rent for a small apt. or spend hours commuting everyday and dont get to live in the city but pay the same for a lot of room...it's total personal preference!
I’m from Australia I really wanna move to nyc so bad it’s so beautiful I’m only 13 so I still have a long time but I’m so scared on being on my own and money
I think I could cry.. I have been searching for another Young Christian who's moved to New York.. I'm 18 and god has called me to move to New York... you are phenomenal.. I love how strong you are, especially when you have no one to be accountable to, I've subscribed and I'd love to maybe get to know you more! It'd be great to have a Christian friend when I land in NYC next year!!
Also!!! You should check out META Church, they're a new church starting in NYC, their pastors are Ricky and Krista Ortiz, they have a bible study every Sunday @ 7:30 pm, go check out their Facebook/Insta page! They're fun, easy going and god loving!
+Emily Barton that's so awesome to hear! and thank you for all the compliments.❤️ I'd love to be friends! when do you think you'll be heading this way?
bethany grace I totally wasn't expecting a reply so quick!! I'm from the UK and I've got to save up, but unless god says other wise, I'm looking at next February/ March time! Thankyou so much for not being weirded out by me just reaching out there (there's some scurrrry weird people out here)
Emily Barton I'll be moving back in 2019 . I have to get my degree first. I used to live on Long Island and I really wanted to go back and once I save at least 10,000 I can move :)
Hi, so, I really liked your video about moving to New York. Am looking forward to it. But I gotta some worries. I wanna move in 2018 and save for school in 2019. So, with the lifestyle there , is life too expensive to save? Or, like, what type of job you have there and what city would u recommend to live ? Am planning On Brooklyn! Apparemment, I wanna find online so, what do you think about it Hope I get an answer Thanks
I like what you said about swearing, I can relate. I remember Maya Angelou saying swearing was using poisonous words, and the world doesnt need poisonous words.
Hey! I’m moving this January there, I’m from Venezuela and I’ve been living in Miami almost two years ago but I realized Miami is not for me, I’m excited but I would like to have more contacts as you said, I just have one person or two that I know but you never know who is the person is going to help you! I would like to know you and keep in touch 🙂
+Alyssa Beck hey!(: unfortunately I'm rubbish at making new friends. I get really caught up with everything I'm involved in and don't prioritize hanging out with people. My best suggestion would just be to get involved with a home group/dinner party group within a local church and going out with coworkers is great too!
Hi Bethany, i'm a true native New Yorker, born and raised in NYC. This is great advice you're giving to those considering, or moving to NYC. Especially about finding a pretty safe neighborhood to move too. One has to really do their research when it come to that!!!
yay!!!✨
I am trying to move to new york from Texas, but money is the biggest issue. have about $3000 saved up, but need about $3000 more just to be safe. Love the advice
Femi Alex Williams lol see ya there (moving from tx to ny too)
だいOtaku that’s what you wanna do, not him.
Ilmao you think 6k is enough? That not even enough for a deposit on an apt. Average rent here for a 1bed room is 2k a month
6k is good bro you can rent out a room im leaving from Texas also
You’ll need about 3-4 thousand to get an apt. You need to make about 25 an hour to make it
I'm not planning to move to new york but this was so interesting, I especially liked the tip about writing down your values and what you don't want to change about yourself.
+GirlontheBench thank you!💕
This is excellent advice, especially remembering your morals you don't want to change! And keeping a journal!
thank you!!
Exactly don’t be a follower be a leader
What morals has to do with this
When you said you wanted to keep a clean mouth I first thought you wanted to make sure you didn't start skipping brushing your teeth lol
THAT IS IMPORTANT too
LOL I love the awkward department store/elevator music for each subject pause. Super cute haha
+Sabrina Blier haha thank you!!
not being able to read your own handwriting.....my life.
+Cassie McClure liiiiike whaaaaaaat

whoops sorry🙁
Cussing makes me sound uneducated?
Cool
+Drawmywayhome 👍🏻
exactly, just bc u curse dosent mean u are uneducated🙄
I WAS JUST ABOUT TO COMMENT THATTT
Tbh a lot of people I know who don’t curse sound more uneducated :/ I’d rather someone curse than have a vocabulary limited to: like, literally, stuff, and things
It does. If you cant think of enough to say without cursing, it makes you seem uneducated. Makes sense.

I’m preparing to move to NY. This was very helpful!
so exciting!!!! the city is the best
Hello, so I am not from America but I’m thinking of trying to move to New York in order to get into book publishing. I’m also a Christian so I’m definitely still praying to find out what God wants 🙏🏻 thank you for your video though - I wanted to know if you had any advice for Christians specifically who are thinking of moving to NY ♡
God bless you 🌸
get involved in a church quickly and make it a priority! surround yourself with like minded people who love you and Jesus!
Moving from tennessee. Where can I look for cheap places to rent? Where are safe places to live with kids?
+Brandy Maney I would call a broker in the city! they are amazing with catering to your needs and finding a place that suits you and your family. I always used a broker when moving!
Very real and helpful video.. hoping to move to new york one day.
it’s a dream!
Great tips there bethany! Very informative and well thought content, especially since it was from a first-person point of view. :)
❤️❤️❤️thank you!
your videos are super helpful! love them
+Teresa Vasconcelos glad to hear that! Thank you✨
great video very informative.
New York here I come!!
woohooo!!
I would move to New Jersey or the surrounding states so i can be comfortable .
yeah, people either prefer to be super close to everything with no commute at all, but spend a lot in rent for a small apt. or spend hours commuting everyday and dont get to live in the city but pay the same for a lot of room...it's total personal preference!
you are one of my top favourite youtubers. you are awesome!
+Brooke B ahh thank you so much!!
This was very helpful! Thanks for this!
glad it helped!!
I'm thinking of moving to Jersey next year. Where should I look for jobs ?
+Brownwoman ofGod ahhh tbh I have no idea🤷🏼♀️ I would just look up blogs/RUclips videos and see if you find any good advice!
Hey when do you think is a good age to move to NYC?

I’m from Australia I really wanna move to nyc so bad it’s so beautiful I’m only 13 so I still have a long time but I’m so scared on being on my own and money
what areas do you find sketchy and what kind of people?
Off topics but WHERE can i find and WHAT is your lip color?!
ahh I can’t remember what I was wearing..what color is it? Lol I can’t watch the video on this app.
How much money would you recommend I have going to NYC
it really depends on what kind of standard of living you’re used to/want to have and how quickly you get a job once you’re there
Through which website did you become a nanny? :)
Thankyou so much for not being weirded out by me just reaching out there (there's some scurrrry weird people out here)
SAME!! :)
Emily Barton I'll be moving back in 2019 . I have to get my degree first. I used to live on Long Island and I really wanted to go back and once I save at least 10,000 I can move :)
New subscriber and I just wanted to say thank you so much for making this video I needed this advice so much!!
+taiwo11100 ahh yay so happy!✨
I’m 13 Wanna move when I’m 18 thank you so now I have to start saving
Yes! Save save save!!!
Apparemment, I wanna find online so, what do you think about it
Hope I get an answer
Thanks
+phanzu mavinga watch all of the videos in this playlist; they answer all of your questions! ruclips.net/p/PLLTs_dhT71hFkhoqrMBK8CPF5MhCNhCFX
How much money would you need to first visit NYC
+Eli Acosta it depends on what you plan on doing and how long you stay for.
bethany grace 2 weeks and only eating and seeing the city no shopping how much do u think it'll cost since you been to and live in NYC
I like what you said about swearing, I can relate. I remember Maya Angelou saying swearing was using poisonous words, and the world doesnt need poisonous words.
omg yes i love that
Hey (: ! I really enjoyed this video !! I was just wondering if you had any tips on making new friends in a new state
+Alyssa Beck hey!(: unfortunately I'm rubbish at making new friends. I get really caught up with everything I'm involved in and don't prioritize hanging out with people. My best suggestion would just be to get involved with a home group/dinner party group within a local church and going out with coworkers is great too!
Lol yea I don't have mommy and daddy to help me out like some people unfortunately
+Cp3jordan95 )):
