I'm trying to move to NYC. However, It's become increasingly more difficult as there is a severe lack of affordable housing within the city. After WWII the city built Styvestant Houses in Manhattan and the Marlboro Houses in Brooklyn to accommodate housing for returning vets. In recent times very little new public housing has been built in the city. Additionally, investors from all over the world have been investing in the remaining private housing in the city which has further inflated real estate prices and rents. A large amount of private housing is under rent control or rent stabilization as they say nowadays. Yeah, but you have to be fortunate enough to have a family member to pass the rent controlled place on to you. I could meet a lady who has her own place in East Flatbush to move in with. However, the odds of that happening would be comprable to winning the lottery in each of the 50 States on the same day! Well the main thing is to stay positive and keep trying. Some of the great boxers out of Brooklyn like Mike Tyson, Riddick Bowe and Shannon Briggs would barely recognize their old neighborhoods now. Oh well, I always remember the words of Eddie Murphy in Coming to America: In order to find a Queen you have to get to Queens!
I agree with all your pros for nyc. I especially enjoy the fact that being weird is "normal" haha. When i'm out, i feel less self conscious wearing or doing something weird :]
I can totally back up the small town living boredom. I'm 17 and from a very small town in northern Minnesota. My best friend and i literally spend our days in our small Target or binge watching Netflix. We live 45 minutes from any city or any remotely fun activities. I'm attending college in Minnesota, but am definitely looking at moving to NYC after I get my degree. This was super helpful! Love this channel!
I totally agree on the being who you want/dressing who you like without judgement thing! I lived in a small town until I was 18 and dressed and thought differently than most of my peers and I was always always judged and made fun of for it. Although I think it’s important to be who you are and where what you like no matter what, it’s definitely easier sans judgement and the pressure to look/be/think like everyone else.
I loved this, it was so good, i want to move to NYC as soon as I leave university but im english so it'll probably be alot harder but im determined to live there for at least 1 year of my life!
Thanks for the idea hun, i just checked my uni website and i can go abroad but the options are all in europe, i cant exchange in the usa :( I think i'd probably do an internship or something, who knows, whatever God says i guess :)
I'm a Christian as well. I'm heading to NYC for a 4 month internship coming from Switzerland, praying that I will find a good church and hopefully meet new people :)
Lol winter sucks only if you come from somewhere that isn’t cold or if you’re not a new yorker that is used to the winter here. Public transit can be a pro and con bcs yes it gets u there quick for cheap but the delays suck and in the summer the stations are hot as shit. yes NYC can be dangerous but once you’re adjusted to living in NYC you kind of already know places to avoid and how to take care of yourself (especially at night) i’ve lived in nyc all my life (20years) and i can say your list accurate thanks for this
awesome video, i like how you kept it real and didnt hype up nyc like most people do. i just moved from jersey to seattle and can definitely relate to alot of your videos in a new city!
bethany grace it's been amazing so far! If she's looking to slow things down a little bit, but still live the city life, Seattle is the place to be! I am vlogging a lot of my experience over on my channel if she wants to see some of the city! ☺️
This video definitely helps, because me and a buddy of mine will be moving to NY in July. I'm excited and nervous, but more prepared due to some of your videos. You got yourself a new subscriber. Hope i see you in the city one day.
Do you feel safe in NY? I know New York is just big and not everywhere is rainbows and sparkles, how do you know where's safe and where you should avoid?
+Emily Winans you kinda just learn as you go, but majority of places I feel completely safe and comfortable during the day. I really only ever feel a little on edge when it's dark and not as many people are out.
Emily Winans the good thing is that since it's a city , there's A LOT OF PEOPLE out , AT ALL TIMES of the day . That's why they call it the city that never sleeps . and there is so many lights
I live in a really small city in the netherlands and i hate that when its dark and i have to go home from college there is no one on the street. It takes only one freak to asult you and theres is no one to help you. Thats why i feel much safer in big cities like amsterdam
I think NYC vs small rural town in a landlocked state, NYC is a clear winner. That said, I think there are much better places to live overall. In the US, LA and San Diego. LA really offers more than NYC does and is much larger, it's just less dense but the metro population is larger than NYC's metro now. LA has its own issues of course, but pros and cons vs NYC's, I think it comes out ahead. SD is a more polished LA with even better climate, just much less going on there, fewer jobs, etc. not in the same league as NYC and LA. Outside of the US, I think some cities in Europe are better, like Berlin, Vienna, Amsterdam, Prague, Barcelona, Lisbon, Stockholm, Copenhagen. They offer the convenience NYC does, being able to bike and walk everywhere and having great public transportation, but smaller populations and less intense. Climate/weather-wise though, everywhere north of Vienna is worse than NYC (darker and longer winters, much more cloudiness, especially during the winter), that's their biggest negative (plus being even further from family in the US, having to adapt to a new culture and language, needing a work visa, etc.)
All the European cities you listen are boring. NYC is good because its NYC. The only city in europe that could compare is London which is still far behind.
Girl you just got yourself a new subbie in OK!!! Gotta keep the Okie girls together! In Kansas right now for school, but I've always dreamed of living in NYC - love your stuff!
I live in the UK, and I want to move to new york but what I'm worried about is jobs and careers. What if I have a law degree or any other degree does that still give me a chance to get a job in new york
Where are you from, and whats the population of your town? I live in a small city, and I dont feel safe..ive had two break-ins and a drive by shooting since I been in my house.
Thanks for making this! I don't have any family so being somewhere where there's always something to do sounds like a good time/distraction lol Can't wait to move
Hey Bethany, I just wanted to write a comment and say your vids are super helpful. When it comes to the train, do you recommend getting a yearlong pass if you don't have a required daily commute?
+David M I don't think there's a year long pass, but there are monthly ones! If you use the train everyday you should def get the monthly one, but if you only use it a couple times a week then it's cheaper to just put money on a card and just refill it whenever you need it! Thanks for watching my videos!! I'm glad they're useful to you!
I know that this is a late comment but HOW DO YOU EDIT YOUR THUMBNAILS????!!! The white drawings/doodles in ur thumbnails are so cool! PLease Tell Me!!!
Thanks for the video. Driving in LA is the worst, i believe LA wins with traffic, finding parking n horrible air quality...lol Excited to move to NY, this video was very helpful
i tried to follow your twitter but it said that the account didn't exist!!! but i just found your videos and i love them! i am traveling to new york in a few days and can't wait and also considering moving within the next year or two!
ahh that's awesome! yeah i changed my twitter name a while ago so my older videos have the wrong link in the description. heres the link: twitter.com/_bedheadbeth

in small towns you literally go to the same resturaunts every single time

you should see if you can do one year studying abroad through your school! i've heard it's much easier to get a visa that way.
Thanks for the idea hun, i just checked my uni website and i can go abroad but the options are all in europe, i cant exchange in the usa :( I think i'd probably do an internship or something, who knows, whatever God says i guess :)
ahh dang, but sounds like you have the right mindset! keep praying and reading the word and God will show you the way!✨
i love it in nyc!
Same with me, I really want to move there. I'm hoping I will be able to study abroad there.
Oh, my it gets cold in this state. So cold, idk maybe it's because of I'm black but ugh it's horrid. I cry...and sometimes it's intentional.
+Taye Nic it gets soooo coooold
BWANA BWANA dude no
As a true native New Yorker you're very pretty head on about NYC's Pros & Cons!!!
❤️❤️❤️

+Erin Despanie that's so exciting! And thanks so much, I'm glad the videos help!
In NYC, if you want to run errands and get something from across town or a few miles away, it takes hours to do that. Thats a big CON for me.
Do you feel safe in NY? I know New York is just big and not everywhere is rainbows and sparkles, how do you know where's safe and where you should avoid?

BTW I'm from a small town as well but have a dream to move to New York, not sure if God is calling me to yet but I'd like to keep an open mind.
+Emily Winans that's the best thing you can do is to keep your mind open for all of the things God's planned for your life! his will!
Make sure your credit rating is in order before coming..nobody rents to you if its below par. 700 bare minimum.

oh and lets not talk about how many terrorists attacks have been occurring, 2 in the last 2 months, and 1 just last year and God knows how many more. I love your intro!!
thank you!!
You look like Dua Lipa on this make up 😍
haha thank you!!
When a person is talking shit about NY, my question is: why you still here? 🤣
spoiler alert: she likes going to islands
Tip for driving in New York from a New Yorker, DON'T lol theres a reason many of us dont even own cars.
so new york can be pretty dodgy
+ZiZi nothing's ever happened to me, but you just have to be careful about where you are and what time it is, you know?
NYC is overrated now, I’m leaving really soon (People are too uptight and think they are all above everyone) definitely not a good place to raise a family unless you’re a millionaire. This city is for the super Rich! SUPER....
This chick is so cute ha
About being anything you want... the one thing you absolutely cannot be in Ny is openly a Trump supporter lol.
L O L

Facts. She can't say the truth tho cause she's trying to blow up her channel.
Museum sucks
