  • If your yard gets direct sunlight, you'll want to garden plants that thrive in the sunlight. A sun loving yard gets full sun all day or at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight a day. There are 3 types of sun loving flowers and those are annuals, perennials and vines.
The first are annuals. These bloom nonstop for an entire season. Plant them in pots, the ground or window boxes. Use sphagnum peat moss when planting annuals. it traps the moisture in the soil. Some types of annuals are petunias and geraniums.
The second type are perennials. These are a great cost effective way to garden. They bloom once a season, but come back year after year. Many develop from their native form in the dry heat. Some types are cone flower, black eyed Susans and coreopsis.
Finally there is flowering vines. These are great for structure. They create shade and come in annual and perennial form. Clematis and morning glory are great varieties and come in many color schemes. For more helpful gardening and flower advice, visit www.Lowes.com/G...

succulents, sedum's, cactus's, other drought tolerant plants. we have a window box on the south side of our house. the house is a dark brown, and there is a deck there as well. those three things together literally turn that window box into an oven. didnt matter how much water we poured on it, whatever was planted there would wilt to no end. we planted some succulents and they seem to have done fine last summer.

Anyone have a suggestion about what plant/s can handle direct sunlight on my patio? It's all day long and in Florida so it gets hot. Thanks for any tips.
