    Steven Spielberg said that his two favorite and best films of all time are both David Lean films, Bridge on River Kwai, and Lawrence of Arabia.

    His two directing oscars were richly deserved. One of the top 5 directors of all time. His wife divorced him on grounds of desertion he was away filming bridge for so long!

    All five nominees were winners in my opinion!
    David Lean really knows how to make a blockbuster.

    I know this is not about Sidney Lumet but I can't help wondering how weird it must have felt for him to be nominated alongside such great directors like Billy Wilder, David Lean, with his first picture!

    WOW! What a coincidence! I bought the DVD this week, along with To Kill a Mockingbird, Sense and sensibility, Requiem for a Dream and How Green was my Valley. I didn't had time to watch yet. But i will see ''Bridge on the River Kwai'' as soon as possible! Anyway, I know the award was well deserved, I love David Lean!

    There some irony that Sophia Loren of all people presented the award to David Lean. When he got to direct Dr. Zhivago, he had to face the prospect that his producer Carlo Ponti wanted to put his very Italian bombshell wife, Sophia Loren, in the film as Larissa. Can't picture her in that picture.

  • @jessebolt8526
    @jessebolt8526 4 года назад +5

    2:17 - That's certainly one of the reasons why they introduced the stage assistants years later. To gently make the presenters be away and making sure that the prized people fully occupy his/her space up there. David Lean was almost off the mic.

  • @ledepi34

    At that time there was a lack of a person to make the presenter to be threes or four steps away from the winner. During the speech that's the winner's space there.

    TWO EYES, TWELVE HANDS, SWEET SMELL OF SUCCES and NIGHTS OF CABIRIA should at least been nominated for directing by Mackendrick, Fellini and Shantaram imo. And Wilder and Robson will be the only ones that will stay of the nominees though. All imo, but Now, you maybe thinking: `What in the Fucks hell!´ Beacuse Lumet was not deserved to be nominated for 12 ANGRY MEN imo, Wish is one of the most popular Movies of all time. That is just aecuse I Think it is one of the most overrated Movies of all time, dont get me wrong but seriosly it was boring sooo much and Fonda and all the others only talked `Guilty´ or `not guilty´ and only want to know about the murder. there abseloty NOTHING fun about it just borin as hell! and the directing by lumet was not so special etheir. Also Logan and Lean (Who was the actuall Winner) dont deserved to be there. There are only the most funny Comedy Movies that I like, it can be crime Movies like GOODFELKAS that i love, but there must be any humor in it so I can laugh my head of! Actually, TWO EYES, TWELVE HANDS and NIGHTS OF CABIRIA where both foreign films.
