Always love to see some more recent discussion on the crowns. I wanted to note a few things not mentioned as a uz175 owner, which is the 1uz v8 equipped majesta model. Watch out when buying a crown with a 2j. If it's designated as FSE it's direct injected and as far as I know that was only available on the majesta but I could be wrong. At least with the 1uz V8 you can still enjoy cable throttle with vvti at least up to 1999 which seems to be pretty uncommon with Toyotas V8 vehicles. I wouldn't totally knock the s170 gen in terms of handling as it's suspension is shared with the aristo and that car set pretty good benchmarks in its day. The car feels fairly nimble and with thicker sways, a little drop and strut towers I imagine it'll be a great canyon carver. I wish I could experience different generations as the build quality for s170s is phenomenal. You accelerate in absolute silence, it's ev quiet. Pretty much agree with everything there. I got my 171W to tune and it fuel economy now with the bosch 1600cc injectors and Haltech E2500 is not what it used to be haha (probably around 15l/100km). The 206 I have gets absurd highway mileage and I have seen economy down in the early 9's per 100km using it which is unreal for such a big engine. The 206 is a lot harder to find tuner parts for but i have found that Bullet Cars on the Gold Coast have a kit for the 4.6l V8 for the Landcruiser that will fit but its an expensive mod (~$20k all in) so its on the back burner until I get the 171 finished. The 186 is definitely the most VIP looking of the 3 and I love seeing all the stance builds done with it. Im happy with my two and I think your last comment is the most important, regardless what people choose its the right choice for them and let them enjoy it and dont be a d*ck.
