  • Animation of the path that an incoming light ray traces through the GRAVITY instrument. Note the intricate design and complex interaction of the various components for the four telescopes. For interferometry to work, the light paths have to be superposed with a precision of a fraction of the wavelength - less than 1 micrometer.

It's a pleasure to see the light path into this instrument. I work on the integrated optic ship in the heart of GRAVITY. Congratulation for this video and your first results.

It's one of the coolest animations I've ever seen that was explanatorily completely worthless.
I'm happy for your sake the thing works, whatever it does, and how it does it.

The sounds reminded me of tetris. Nice animation.

Very neat. Now, once again, and from the top, and allowing for double slits etc., precisely which path did that photon take :-)
    thanks for such excellent work!

Que vídeo incrível! A gravidade esculpe o raio de luz!! Tão objectivo... taco a taco até parecia um jogo de snooker!!

wonder how many engineer"s this took to design. thanks ESO

Its a great animation but it is not teaching much. Someone needs to add audio/text explaining what is happening and what various stages are achieving and their significance, otherwise, all we understand is light is bouncing of, leaving us with our own interpretations of what is happening.
